The Ultimate Showdown Between Good and Evil

heehoo, i've been gone for over a month now. happy new year!
fun fact: i first watched basement jack around when it came out, i.e. when i was 13 years old. and years later, the only things i remembered were the fact that i loved it (but not why), 'jack cute', and lucille's death scene, the image of which stuck with me viscerally for ten years because of how real and fucked up it looked. which is pretty good for a movie that seems to have had a budget of sixteen crumpled ones and a shoebox full of pennies
appreciation post for jack's eyes, because just... goddamn
i have so many bizarre thoughts and feeling about this movie that tbh i don't even know where to begin. an analysis of jack's childhood and mental state? my headcanon that the asshole detectives are gay and secretly banging in the police department bathroom? my other headcanon about the manager being a hybristophiliac and also a serial killer in his own right? my eight million weird aus, one of which is based on the premise of the anime/manga erased? the cracktastic poly quartet i came up with (manager/jack/karen/lucille) that my friends on discord nicknamed The Basement Orgy? there're so many weird and wacky avenues to cover, how can i be expected to pick just one
this is an appreciation post for jack riley's hands, which have no right to be this pretty like what the fuck
so on a scale from 1 to 'dug through at least thirty bargain dvd displays this past halloween season in search of a basement jack dvd they might've excavated from the back room and decided to put out anyway' how badly do you not want to give amazon your money
jack riley looks cgi. this man has no pores. look at this shit
man's really out here looking like he moisturizes after living on the streets for a year and also spending ten years in a psych ward right before that. hot tbh
basement jack might be just another 'oooooooh mental illness is scary~' horror movie but it's my emotional support 'oooooooh mental illness is scary~' horror movie goddamn it
i present: jack falling down
chris: you're smiling, did something good happen?
karen: can't i just smile because i feel like it?
lucille: jack tripped and fell in the parking lot
hot take but i headcanon jack as having severe ptsd. considering the visual and auditory hallucinations, the erratic behavior during thunderstorms (which he's had traumatic experiences with before), etc. etc.... It Just Makes Sense

Basement Jack can hang im my basement anytime ;) ;)
BASEMENT JACK (2009)- Another relatively obscure slasher flick, I caught this one on I think the TCL streaming channel last night and loved it. Might be a bit difficult to find without sailing the high seas, but it’s definitely worth a watch!
Basement Jack is the story of Jack Riley, a young man who, after killing his abusive mother went on to murder four other families during lightning storms, posing their bodies in a manner reminiscent of domestic bliss, before being caught. Dubbed “Basement Jack” by the media due to his tendencies to break into and hide in his victims basements, because he was only 17 when he committed the crimes he received a lighter sentence. Once he was released years later, the killings began again, and only the lone survivor of his original massacre seems intent on stopping him once and for all.
It’s a charmingly dark film, the scenes with his cruel mother are shot in a brightly lit and almost surreal manner, and the character of Jack is just very interesting. He’s quiet and can be seen stimming a few times, particularly when stressed, and is tormented by the memories of his childhood. They really give him a lot of personality and depth plus he’s hot.
