A dream.

It was a dream, wasn’t it?

There was nothing else it could be.

He closed his eyes, counted to ten, told himself to wake up. When he opened his eyes, nothing changed. He was still in front of him. Kcalb stared down the clearly younger, the clearly more cruel, version of himself with a pained feeling in his chest. It was like staring at his sins in the face, feeling the weight of them far more than usual. Even Wodahs’s eye didn’t dredge up such a sorrowful, guilty feeling.

“Who are you?” He asked, voice steady despite the torrent of emotions and pain raging in his chest. “Is this a dream of some sort? A cruel mirage? Remove yourself from my sight…Please.” He hoped it was just a ploy, some Devil toying with him. A bad dream. Anything.

In a way, it was enlightening. He’d never met another devil, let alone one that acted as a mirror. He seemed older, wiser... If this was what he thought, he was delighted.

If this man truly was his older self, that meant he had won. He was going to be the victor. He’d destroy Etihw and the world they used to scorn him. Build a mighty empire! As wonderful as this revelation was, there was but a single thing off to him.

What was with the annimosity...?

“Come now, friend. Is that any way to treat royalty?” He felt himself grin. “We should be celebrating! I feel a feast is in order!”

“After all, all you’ve done is bring me good news.”

   Etihw expected him to come, no surprise at all when their door opened to reveal the devil. In the little time they had, they wiped their face quickly with their nightgown’s sleeve, then preparing a smile to flash to Kcalb. All too easy.

【◇】  “ A-Ah, no no nothing like that..! Woke up from a noise is all, it frightened me a little bit… ”

   They laughed, before propping themself up and facing him with a smug grin. Change the subject.

【◇】  “ Need an excuse to come sleep with me? I’m sure that coffin of your’s can be quite lonely~ ”

   The coffin they buried him in, left to rot for hundreds of years… their thoughts weren’t being all too kind on them tonight.

Surprisingly, he didn’t seem embarrassed by their teasing. He didn’t even seem phased, actually. He stepped in, silently shutting the door behind him. He knew them better than they gave him credit for. 

His expression was calm; peaceful, even. He knew what pain they were in, even if they tried to hide it from him. He’d experienced the same just the night before, after all. He made his way to their bed, sitting down at their side. 

“... Eti. You know I can see through that smile. What happened?”
