I think that in 2025 I finally understood that nostalgia for 2015 is a bit like that BoJack Horseman line: “when you look at someone through rose-colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.” We (I) romanticized a past where, objectively, we weren’t doing well at all. We were more reckless, yes; but that recklessness was a form of escape from a reality we weren’t ready to face yet.
I don’t know if I want 2016 back in 2026. Just looking up photos from that time gives me chills. What I do want is to keep a piece of who I was back then: the version of me that dared to step into the light thanks to the social media of that era, my hair in my favourite colour (purple), talking freely about what I liked as an “aesthetic” instead of being labelled a geek, but above all, I want to be happy — truly happy — in a less chaotic life, without having to run away from reality so much.
At least that's my intention!
Happy 2026 y'all :)
