yknow, as counterintuitive as it may seem, helping a suicidal friend isn't a matter of stopping them from dying. it's about helping to make their world one that's worth living in.
it's important to make that distinction, lest we make people's quality of life worse in the name of "protecting" them.

I hate cigarettes so much I hate that smoking is becoming cool again I hate that we're becoming contrarian hipsters about this disgusting habit that has literally killed so many people and destroyed so many lives I'm so serious we need to become absolute killjoys about this again it's time to go 90s scolds on cigarettes until the scourge is wiped out entirely.
good morning
sometimes politicians in order to prove a point do experiments like work as a waiter for a day, use a wheelchair to navigate around the city or survive a month on minimal salary. i think every politician who believes sex work is work, who is actively pro sex work and pro porn, who protects pimps and doesn't give a damn about trafficking should do an experiment and become a sex worker at the brothel for a day. they should show people how it's totally normal to be raped multiple times a day, get ptsd, get infections, get cut of more than 40% of their paycheck, not being able to say no to people they don't like and don't want to have sex with, not being able to say no to humiliating sexual practices they don't want to do, not being able to get back to a normal job if anyone finds out about the past, and so much more. let them show how nice sex work is, let men lead the way they so desperately want.
they don't want to be a sex worker? but why not? after all it's no different than working in mcdonalds.

how it feels having the deep seated belief that you're inherently unlovable and insufferable so every friendship you make is just a matter of time until they get tired of you and leave

About this post
When you read Andrea Dworkin say sheâs never been more afraid then when she was speaking to a group of lesbians that were pissed that she called herself one despite not being one thatâs her literally admitting sheâs lesbophobic. She wasnât more afraid of speaking out against the men that rape, mutilate, murder, pimp, sex traffic, molest, or beat women and girls? Nope. Itâs lesbians holding her accountable for her appropriation of an oppressed community that made her shake in her boots.
When you read bell hooks say that lesbian erotica shouldnât be sexist against the penis because we all need to celebrate and cherish it sheâs proving her lesbophobia.
Iâm reading Mary Dalyâs Gyn/Ecology right now and less than 30 pages in she says she doesnât believe in homosexuality, that when she uses Lesbian with a capital L itâs about women identified women (the âcorrectâ usage) and when she uses it with a lower case l sheâs talking about the âmale-distorted version⊠women who relate genitally to womenâ. Thatâs worse than Dworkin comparing us nazis.
Why should I âseparate the art from the artistâ when it comes to âolderâ or âpublishedâ or âbrilliantâ radical feminist women? Â Why should I consider the fact that the foundation of the second wave was the silencing of lesbians and the theft of our culture a âdisagreementâ and not a deal breaker?
Why should I not recognize that for all the great writing theyâve made they were the foremothers of the anti-lesbian identity politics bullshit weâre currently drowning in?
And when you hear about how there were REAL lesbians who had major issues with these women why is it that you canât find any names? Any writings? Why were the most lesbophobic and appropriative radical feminists the most successful radical feminists? Why are successful radical feminist lesbians almost nonexistent? Doesnât it seem odd to you when you consider that the movement was built and maintained by genuine lesbians?
Any lesbian that decides not to read works by women that hate, fear, silence, and deny her very existence isnât ageist, sheâs sparing herself the suffering that comes as a side effect of being part of a distinct oppressed class of women.
And hereâs a thought. Why canât older women learn from us? Maybe even admit they were wrong? They can give up Lesbian and take fucking wlw.
If anyone can find names and works of lesbians who called out these homophobes PLEASE send them to me or tag me in posts about them because radical feminists act like polilez was accepted by all and even real lesbians just didnât mind too much. I knew in my heart that wasnât true.
also if someone could pls share the quotes and sources op is referring to

if i heard that a woman aborted a fetus because prenatal screening had revealed a disability that i shared, i would simply not shame her
RIP to people who think bodily autonomy is conditional but im different
iâve been getting a lot of comments/questions about this post. some is good, some is bad. iâve decided not to respond individually and instead say:
i said what i said. i wasnât confused about saying it.
if i found out a woman had aborted a fetus because she found out that fetus had a disability that i haveâdisabilities that i have firsthand knowledge of being painful, difficult to live with, and often resource-intensiveâi would not be angry with her. i would not feel like she doesnât think people like me should not be alive (unless she actually said so).
fetuses are not little potential âyouâs. projecting your own anxieties onto a womanâs abortion (âi wouldnât have wanted to be abortedâ is common reasoning in plenty of pro-life circles; itâs not better here) is invasive and nonsensical.
bodily autonomy isnât conditional. you donât know a womanâs exact reason for abortion and you donât need to. womenâs rights to abortion need to be protected, even if you feel icky about some potential reasoning behind an abortion, which you arenât even fully privy to in the first place.
disabled people should always be in the care of people who have the resources and desire to take care of them. insisting that disabled children be born simply to ease your own moral qualms with abortion is frankly unethical in my opinion, resources are often very slim for disabled people. not to mention our quality of life is often just lower in general. you can argue all you want in the notes about âmildâ disabilities but you arenât the arbiter of what constitutes a mild enough disability to make an abortion terrible and immoral and shame-worthy.Â
women arenât vessels. regardless of how morally pure you feel your crusade is, they simply arenât.
speaking as a disabled person, energy is literally always better spent on changing societyâby increasing resources for caretakers and disabled people alike, speaking frankly about quality of life, correcting notions about what disabled peopleâs lives are like, punishing mistreatment of actual disabled people [not potential ones], and putting research into easing the pain/suffering of people as much as possibleâthan it is on getting mad about women getting abortions. and it isnât just better spent that way, itâs just immoral to do the latter.
in conclusion: RIP to people who think bodily autonomy is conditional but im different.

âSubvertingâ Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how âWound of Christâ from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risquĂ© way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isnât just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christâs foreskin? And then graphically erotic encounters with the side wound of Christ quickly showed up in the writings of eight different mystics. And then the yonic interpretation of the stigmata filtered down through the illuminated manuscripts and then trickled on down into some pseudo-intellectual corner of the internetâŠwhere you, no doubt, fished it out of some Pinterest board. However, that interpretation represents hundreds of years and countless visions of religious ecstasy. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've come up with an idea that exempts you from Christian theology when, in factâŠyou're posting an image that was sexualized for you by the very Medieval saints you think youâre so different thanâŠfrom âsubvertedâ Catholic art.
