Ok so it's not ACTUALLY angels biting people, I exaggerated a bit, but-

There's a short section in Numbers where God sends "fiery serpents" down to give the Israelites the plague because they were bad for the nth time. The particular Bible I'm reading has a ton of footnotes on any time there is linguistic uncertainty or ambiguity, down to any time a pronoun is replaced with a name for clarity, etc. And one of the footnotes says that the Hebrew word used for "fiery serpents" is the same as "seraphim", as in the angels, and it's ambiguous in isolation if this was meant to be serpents or literal angels.

"Bite" is quite clear and does not have any such footnote so from context I imagine it was almost certainly intended to be snakes. But the alternative is really funny. Can you imagine you complain about God and then one of his weird wing angel things comes down and fucking bites you???
