In reality it's because it was only I started playing that I realized none of the nobles had tattoos iirc 😢 But I was already so attached to design, i wanted to find some reason for it lol

In lore, Vohra marked her face herself in the days following her rescue from the Deep Roads, maybe in the days between the journey from the Deep Roads and Ostagar ??

It was not a considered act, nor a cultural one, it was impulsive! deliberate and rooted in anger, mainly. She carved the designs with precision, more controlled than her state of mind warranted, as though noble discipline alone could give shape to what she had become (I imagine some sort of state where she was so mad she locked in…)

The markings were meant as a reminder, mainly to her, and second to everyone else who saw her. She knew and believed whatever chance she had been given by Duncan was not a return. Even if her name were restored, even if her titles were offered back, she knew the truth she would never again be seen as she once was. Not by Orzammar or other Houses, socially speaking, she'd probably always be seen as exiled for a time even if she did save the world after the Blight, because we know dwarves are very traditional etc etc 🤔 if that makes sense

So she made that visible statement, permanent, and impossible to ignore, in a place where she couldnt hide like a arm or leg tattoo. its like… A declaration as much as a wound(?) she had already been cast out and she wouldnt pretend otherwise (very dramatic!)
