The Chariot

Featuring @cyanide-latte 's OC Copper Benoit

When discussing The Chariot card, I truly couldn't have thought of a better OC to use here than Copper. Between the narative he has, escaping a metaphorical cage by riding the momentum of an opportunity and never looking back, Copper's story illustrates the action element of the Chariot. The path is before you but you have to be the one willing to take the reigns and drive on to success. And as he takes the steering wheel and led the Black Pearl to his freedom, the Captain stands tall, with a spyglass to see the obstructions in his path, and the compass that points to where he wants to go most.

The Chariot talks about not only action, but learning to navigate the road to change and to outcomes, and while traditionally, the Chariot is depicted as a physical chariot driven by sphinxes, using the Black Pearl felt like a perfect symbolic representation of those sphinxes. The sphinxes are alive; from the lore of PotC, we know the Pearl is too. The Sphinxes are mythologically shrounded in mystery and yet are wonderous; the Pearl is too.

And beyond all of the symbolic elements that I chose to implement, depicting the card as best understood by the character, the other thing I will say about this piece is how much it challenged me to make the piece feel whole. The background especially felt like a challenge, but I do feel like I am incredibly satisfied with it, and what all I learned from it.
