❝you fooled me with your kisses
you cheated and you schemed
heaven knows how you lied to me
you're not the way you seemed❞
-- (you're the) devil in disguise, elvis presley
It was nothing but a lie.
Your relationship with Bruce Wayne was a real lie and just didn't see that fact who didn't want to. You took little effort to demonstrate otherwise.
You met at one of the gala parties where the billionaire had seen everyone with his illustrious presence. Bruce had your attention captured by you with your angelic manner and grace and intelligence too, which he recognized after the conversations you exchanged. The following week, you went out together to get to know each other better. And in just under two months, you had broken through the wall that Bruce Wayne had built around your heart.
The comments were inevitable after your relationship became public knowledge. People said many things, one of them was that you didn't really love him, that it was all a game of interests for fame and money. Many judged his courtship without even knowing you right. And some of the rumors weren't wrong anyway.
You didn't really love Bruce Wayne.
No, you didn't get involved in a relationship because of money, far from it, you were part of the League of Assassins and you were supposed to do a big act to prove your loyalty. So you went to great lengths to think of something big and came to a conclusion, you were going to kill Batman.
You believed that the best way to get the bat out of your way was to approach, not the bat itself, but who it was behind the mask. Like a virus that kills its host from the inside out. You've always been a smart girl, so it wasn't hard to put two and two together and associate Bruce Wayne with Batman, especially after comparing the number of Gotham hero's sidekicks with the number of the billionaire's children.
The bonus of your work was not only gaining the trust of Bruce, but also of Alfred and all of his children. Well, almost everyone. Damian never trusted you and because of that, he was the only stumbling block in your path.
No one understood this implication that Damian had with you, but taking into account the boy's personality, the residents of Wayne Manor just ignored it and focused on not letting you feel intimidated by the boy. After all, no matter what Damian said, you were sweet and kind Y/n, you would never hurt anyone, especially them.
But you knew it was only a matter of time before Damian finally discovered your true intentions, and so you have to put your plan into action, and fast.
All your attempts to put your plan into action were thwarted and interrupted by the green-eyed boy. And for a measly second you considered getting Damian out of your way, but you knew his parentage within the League and that would only get you into trouble, so that soon became a discarded alternative. You just needed a little more patience and believed that you would find the ideal moment.
And apparently, it had arrived. The boys were out and Alfred was busy in some room in the mansion. It was late, and Bruce was still solving some things in the batcave, alone. There was no way anyone could stop you from carrying out your plan.
You made your way from the bedroom to the batcave calmly and silently, remembering every moment spent there. As much as you didn't love Bruce, you'd have to admit that you have a good time at Wayne Manor. Bruce and the boys could be anything anyone could imagine, but they were good people who needed affection and someone to keep them from falling into total darkness, and they got that with you. Despite everything, you cared for them and were always there for them, but it was all to strengthen your good girl pose, so you looked like an angel in their lives, wasn't it? Hell, even Dick had accidentally called you mom. Everyone warmed to you quickly and it was noticeable even to those watching from the outside.
It was a shame knowing that after this day, they would hate you.
"Still awake, Y/n?"
You are awakened from your thoughts by a little voice that every time it spoke to you it was either to insult you or it was to disturb you and now, it was probably the second case.
"I was just going to call your dad to sleep, Damian. You know if we let him he'll stay overnight in the cave and if I remember correctly he has a business meeting tomorrow." You say, turning to look at the boy who was standing behind you, giving him a gentle smile.
"I see, I know. But can I tell you something? You lie badly, especially to someone who wants to join the League of Assassins." You can watch the small smile appear on Wayne's lips as your slowly fades. Cursed be the son of Talia Al Ghul.
"So, you knew. And what are you going to do? Run and tell your father that you were right about me this whole time?" If there's one thing you've learned since you were a little girl, it's not to show it when you're intimidated by someone, so you held your ground, and for God's sake, he was a 12-year-old brat.
A 12-year-old brat who was raised to become an assassin.
"No." Okay, this one you didn't expect.
"Why?"
"Because I think you're perfect for the League."
As soon as you entered the batcave, you soon had the vision of Bruce sitting in front of the computer with his back to you. A more than common scene for anyone in the Mansion.
You took a deep breath before starting to slowly walk towards him.
"I thought you had already gone to sleep." Said Bruce as soon as he noticed your presence, still focused on what he was doing on the batcomputer screen.
"I couldn't, the bed gets colder without you around." You take your hands to your boyfriend's tense shoulders, which were carrying all the stress of the last patrol, starting to massage. In a few seconds you could feel the man's shoulders relax a little under his touch.
"And you would never miss the perfect opportunity, would you?"
You let out a sigh before answering. "Oh, you know." But of course he knew, no matter how careful you had been, he would figure it out, this is Batman after all.
"I found out about a month ago." Bruce still hadn't even turned around to look at you, his eyes were still focused on the computer screen and you were still with the massage on your shoulders. Anyone entering the cave at this very moment would see nothing more than a couple moments between you. And that's what Alfred thought, he had gone down to the batcave to talk to the boss, but as soon as he entered and saw you there with your boyfriend, he decided to let you guys have a moment just for you. God, how he was going to regret this later.
"And why didn't you do anything about it?"
"I was hoping maybe you'd change your mind, or I just didn't want to accept that one of the people I loved most came into my life to try to kill me." As much as Bruce tried to hide it, you could hear the hurt tone in his voice.
"Ah, Bruce. I'm sorry to have to tell you this." You turned the swivel chair Bruce was sitting on so that he was facing you. "But you should have killed me when you had the chance." Taking your dagger out of the waistband of your pants as you spoke, you drove the sharp object straight into Wayne's stomach. You walked away and started walking through the batcave as soon as you removed the dagger, seeing the man fall to the ground. "It's true what they say, love makes people weak. What are your last words, baby?" You asked as you got closer to Bruce and crouched down so that he could look into his face, the last he would see before death, at least that's what you expected.
"When I found out your true intentions, my heart didn't break into a hundred pieces, it didn't break into a thousand pieces, not even a million. My heart broke into countless pieces. And I tried Yn, I tried to find each piece and put them in place, but then I realized that I would never find the biggest piece if I walked away from you, the piece that held my heart together. Because that piece was you."
You realized what he was trying to do, Bruce wanted to make you regret it. He wanted to say nice words to mess with your head and make you go back on your choices. But he wouldn't make it, you spent incredible moments inside that mansion and despite that, you didn't hesitate at any moment to continue with your goals and it wouldn't be now, at this point in the championship, that you would give up everything.
"I really want to hate her right now, but I can't." Bruce continued. "You're a part of me and even after everything, I still care about you. And even though I said I wish you a painful death, I secretly hope that you get everything you've ever wanted. Because I really love you when I hate you."
You don't say anything for a few seconds, the fallen man's words still being processed in your head, but you are distracted from them by the sound of clapping coming from behind you.
"Honestly? That was pathetic even for you, Dad." Turning toward the sound of the voice, you can see Damian stepping out of the shadows. "She really has a big effect on you."
"Damian?" Said Bruce.
"Tsk, Yn get it over with."
"Are you going back to the League?"
"I was raised to become a murderer, I can't live with your stupid rules dad."
"You know Bruce, Damian warned you about me, he warned you all from the beginning and you ignored him like you always do. You should listen to your children more darling, maybe if you did, you wouldn't be in this situation." You get up and walk to stand beside Damian, who hands you his katana. "Now enough talk, I've waited a long time for this moment, so now I'm going to enjoy it."
That night, the only sound present inside the Mansion was Bruce's long-suffering screams. You made a point of giving him a slow, painful death, a death caused by someone worthy of joining the League of Assassins, and Damian Wayne was there to prove it.
And when the job was done and night turned to day, the news of the murder of billionaire Bruce Wayne was everywhere. And without Batman, it was a matter of weeks before Gotham was in complete chaos.

You and Damian Wayne were an unbeatable duo. Both on the battlefield and off it.
Your friendship was a surprise to everyone, and in a way, even to you. One is the complete opposite of the other, but maybe that's why you got along so well, there was a balance between the two. Obviously, this also made it easier for you to have adverse opinions about various things, but that was what made your dynamics active. And even though you're a sweet person and Damian is…well, Damian, you complement each other. It was even nice to see.
But it was as your physics classes had taught you, opposites attract.
Damian has always treated you differently from everyone else. He had been kind - in his own way, since you joined the team and after they got close, he became a protector with the smallest things, in fact, you swear that the listener threatened Gar with death for eating your chocolate that was in the room. refrigerator once. You go Wayne's little gestures, and maybe that's what was provided for you to confuse things.
You had made one of the worst mistakes you thought you could have made. You broke rule number one of any friendship and feared it would spoil everything from there.
You fell in love with your best friend.
Even though you promised to keep it to yourself until that feeling somehow just faded from your heart, it was suffocating just imagining a reality where you could have something more. And so, after a lot of self-questioning, you decided to open the game. You convinced yourself that, if not reciprocated, your friendship was too strong to end over a teenage crush. Today you know it was another mistake, you could have avoided the pain you felt in the following days.
It was a starry night and the day had been surprisingly calm, you were on the roof watching the stars like you liked to do and although Damian thought it was kind of silly, he always kept you company. You were mentally preparing to speak when he started.
"It's going to be the sweetest thing I've ever said in my entire life, but I think our friendship is the most bearable thing in my life. I like everything about you, Yn."
"Yes. But that's the problem. You like me. I love you."
"Yn..."
"I love you, Damian. In a really big way, I love that you have an inordinate amount of pets, I love how you hate public displays of affection and I love how you can be so stubborn and headstrong almost always. Unfortunately, the things that should make me hate you, make me love you."
"I don't believe in that kind of relationship, Yn. You should know. Relationships like that are distractions and leave us vulnerable, and in the life we lead, it can be fatal and I don't want to die. So I'm sorry."
Damian then got up and left you alone with a broken heart. On the bright side, at least he'd said he was sorry, even if a part of you insisted that your friend had only said that because he still had a little regard for you, not because he was really sorry.
After your confession, things took a turn for the worse. Damian walked away and now the two of you barely spoke and when he did, it was reduced to a few quick words. He avoided training or going on missions with you and that, of course, didn't go unnoticed by the other team members, who thank the gods decided not to intrude and try to understand what happened.
But it was ok, you respected his opinion, even if it hurt, you knew that one day you would get over it. The wrong one was you for falling in love, you knew Damian well enough to predict he'd say such a thing.
You couldn't complain about Damian's choices and again, it was okay, little by little, you'd deal with it.
But then Rachel entered the game.
You've watched Damian approach the empath from the box, watched them become friends, and faked a celebration when they started dating.
The problem was never both, on the contrary, you were happy for both of them. Rachel was kind of a friend of yours and knew she was a good person, plus you saw the change she made in Damian. She heard the hearty laughs he gave when they were together, noticed the small affectionate interactions and discreet touches. Damian was happy and that was enough.
The real issue that bothered you was that two months ago Damian had said he didn't believe in dating and all his obsession with not making himself vulnerable to the enemy. He lied to you, was the only thing you could think of. And you hated lies.
But you weren't in your talking shoes and you didn't want to be seen as the one who wanted to mess up your friends' relationship. So you kept the feeling to yourself.
You held on as long as you could but your heart was broken and no one could say you didn't try. You avoided being around when the two of them were together and spent more time in your room trying to distract yourself and training than you used to, but it still hurt. That's why you've decided to take a break from everything from Damian, Rachel and the team. You felt selfish for a while for suddenly dropping everything, but convinced yourself it was the best choice for now. You talked to Nightwing and said you needed to take some time for yourself, and he completely understood without question.
Dick has always been something of a big brother to you, and you'd expect him to notice all the change in the last few days. He didn't pressure you to tell, but he always made it clear by gestures that he was there for you if you needed him. And you appreciated it.
You decided not to tell anyone you were going out, despite being a little immature of you, just with Dick knowing it was already a good size. But you didn't plan on bumping into Damian in the hallway as you left your room with your belongings.
"What is it?" Damian asked, glancing between your face and your bags.
"My bags."
"What do you need bags for?"
"I don't think you need to know"
You tried to continue on your way, but Damian stopped in front of you preventing you from doing so. You wished more than anything you could maintain your composure in that moment, after your botched statement to Wayne, you two hadn't had a conversation for more than five minutes alone and being confronted by him wasn't the best thing.
"I guess so."
"Damian--" You took a deep breath before continuing, just wanting to get this conversation over with. "Alright, I'm taking a break from the team, okay?"
"What?" Damian's expression changed from peaceful to shocked in a few seconds and you knew that indignation would follow soon after. Like he has any right to feel that way about you.
"I'm leaving the team temporarily or maybe permanently."
"No, you can't go! Yn, we're a duo, remember? Are you going to leave me like this?"
"Now do you remember me?" You gave the boy a little shove on the shoulder so you could go on his way. You gripped the strap of your backpack tighter, walking with your head held high with no intention of looking back.
"Is it because of my relationship with Rachel? Is it because I chose her over you?" His words made you stop where you were and turn to look into Damian's eyes. Now it was you who was outraged.
"No Damian. I'm doing this for me, I need some time to myself. I really don't care if you chose Rae because she seems really great and by the way I hope you treat her well because she doesn't deserve to be hurt by someone like you."
You walked through the door, now with more determination than ever, and for a long time you didn't look Damian Wayne in the face. You moved, you went to New York and you didn't really come back to the team. Years had passed and you'd only kept in touch with Dick, even though you didn't speak often. And now, you had a good job, nice friends, and a quiet life, although you admit you missed the little things that reminded you of your old life. Good things have always remained in your memory.
That is, until Nightwing's call asking for your help. He never called you without asking first, so you knew there was an urgency to that request. It looked like the villain was really tough and they needed as much help as possible. You didn't plan on going back to the heroine life, but now the world didn't need your civil citizen dilemmas, so you went to help your old friends. You'd already forgotten all about that whole Damian thing anyway, not that it mattered.
When you arrived at the T-tower and Damian looked at you after all these years, he couldn't believe that was you. You were different and for sure, time has done you good.
But the truth is, not long after you left, his relationship with Rachel was over, after all she wasn't that great and he realized he'd picked the wrong girl.
He tried to call you and talk to you, explain the situation, apologize and maybe convince you to come back, but you had changed your number and simply disappeared. Of course, he knew the bat cave had the resources to find anyone, but he still had dignity and he wouldn't do that to you, he knew he'd go overboard. However, he knew that Dick still kept in touch, and he even tried to blackmail his brother several times to get what he wanted, but the eldest never said a word about it. It was a promise he had made to you.
And now, you're here, in the same room as him and Damian wouldn't miss the opportunity to talk to you. And when you were in your old room alone, he got ready to finally strike up a conversation with you.
"Yn, can we talk?"
"Of course, I think." You said, surprising the action of the boy who still hadn't spoken to you since you arrived. You heard about Damian and Rachel's breakup from Dick, but that didn't matter to you anymore, the empath was still your friend as always and Damian just wasn't anymore because he decided to walk away.
"I'll be straight. Not long after you left, Rachel and I broke up."
"Oh, I'm sorry, you were–"
"I realized I picked the wrong girl."
"What?"
"I realized it's you I want to be with until the end of time and so I think we can—" He says approaching you, but you interrupt him. God, it hadn't been a day since you'd seen him again and Damian was already making it weird again.
"No, Damian. Do you... Do you think you just come here and say whatever you want and that's it? Is everything settled?"
"Yea?" Damian replied, even though it sounded more like a question.
"Do you realize that when I told you I loved you, you said you didn't believe in relationships, and then soon after you started dating Rachel, you broke up with me? You could have been honest with me then, not after I moved out and years passed."
"I'm not asking you to stay. I want you to stay or I want to go with you, but I want you to be who you want to be and I know staying with me won't be easy, but you'd be sick if everything was easy too much."
"No... I want an easy life, okay? I want a comfortable, calm life. I went through the fire and it wasn't easy because I was so in love with you... and I can't do it again. And plus–" You're interrupted by your cell phone ringing, you pick it up and show the screen, where it showed who was calling you, to Damian. "I'm with someone now, someone who really loves me and cares about me."
And leaving no room for that conversation to continue, you leave your old room leaving a surprised Wayne.
Surprised not only by your words and by having been exchanged. But also surprised to have been replaced by the spider boy from Queens.

❝ 'cause I know it's true, they say:

Dick Grayson was an amazing boyfriend and that no one could deny.
You are an old friend from high school. The two were best friends and studied in the same class until their third year. Maybe he doesn't remember exactly how you started talking, but you became inseparable over the next few months. However, a new job offer to your father split them up and you had to move out of Gotham the year you graduated.
But you never forgot Dick. How could you not remember all the amazing moments you created while you were together? You had a wonderful friendship and the memories always warmed your heart.
Therefore, it was already expected that you would return to your hometown as soon as possible. And so, after graduating in biological sciences, you went on a quest to build a new life in Gotham and most importantly, find your old best friend.
Dick couldn't be happier at his sudden return, other than surprised, of course. And you can't help but notice how good time had done him, whatever he'd been doing for the last few years.
Despite the time apart, it wasn't difficult for you to go back to being the friends you were before. Dick introduced you to his family and you had to stop yourself from making any comments about how her father liked to adopt children.
After going out on your free time, dropping gifts on your apartment door and long conversations after a tiring shift at work, it was more than clear to anyone that stronger feelings were involved in this new relationship of yours. It took a while, but both of them wasted no time once they stopped denying how they felt about each other and five months after you got back together, Dick and you became Gotham's newest couple.
Dating Richard Grayson was like having the best days of your life every day. He was affectionate, considerate, and protective of you, mainly because of his nightlife. You didn't need to know the two of them for anyone to be completely sure that your boyfriend loved you, just look at the way his eyes sparkled as he looked at you. Again, Dick was an amazing boyfriend and to say you were spoiled by him would be almost an understatement. He would do anything for his girl.
Knowing this extreme trust in you, Dick soon set about opening up about his life as a vigilante, consequently, you found out about the others as well. However, you have to admit that I already suspected that Grayson was hiding something, after all the excuses about the sudden injuries were already getting ridiculously repetitive. And in which universe does someone dislocate their wrist while playing board games with their little brother? Okay, fine, it's possible to make an exception when the brother in question is Damian Wayne, but still. Sibling relationships aside, Dick said that for a relationship to work well, it was important not to keep secrets and lies with each other and you, like him, followed the commandment.
Until you meet Jason Todd.
Despite having known Bruce, Alfred, Tim, Damian and the girls from the beginning, as I said, you were only introduced to the problem brother after a year of dating. And honestly? If you had powers to predict the future or knew someone who did, you would have pretended to be sick the day you met Jason Todd.
Maybe then, you weren't alone now.
You and Jason hit it off right away. In the eyes of others, you elevated a brother-in-law relationship to a beautiful friendship, and that was great. Dick was glad you got along with everyone in your family, especially Todd who could have the potential to act like the most annoying of the brothers if he wanted to. Batfamily members said Dick couldn't have picked anyone better. Yeah, everyone really liked you. So that must be why they were extremely disappointed when they discovered that this friendship with Jason was the most reckless, selfish and toxic thing that ever happened in that mansion.
He was once told that all good boys go to heaven, but bad boys bring heaven to you, it was somewhat poetic and a little questionable, but it took a similar situation to really understand.
Dick Grayson made you a better person, he was your faith, he made you feel loved and cared for like no one had ever done before. Dick Grayson was an amazing human being, he deserved all the best from other people and besides, he was very good to you.
But Jason Todd was the complete opposite. He was the problem kid, walked side by side with danger and still laughed at him behind his back and maybe that was what attracted his attention. You wanted to play in the fire that Jason Todd was, but you forgot to be careful not to get burned. He made you become a sinner.
You knew you were making a mistake and you were sure a little voice inside warned you that you would bitterly regret it. You knew you were being a motherfucker for letting Jason's hands touch your body while your boyfriend slept peacefully in one of Wayne Manor's bedrooms. You knew that enjoying Todd's hot, wild touches only made your situation worse.
You knew things were going downhill from there when after months of being on the sly with Jason, he asked you to break up with Dick. You knew this mistake was snowballing when, the next day, Jason confessed his feelings for you. You knew you had managed to make your situation twice as bad when he said he would. You knew there was no turning back when Dick caught the two of them lying in bed between the sheets.
It was a cold and rainy morning, the perfect weather to match the tension that had been in that room when the door was swung open.
"Tell me this isn't true."
You thought for a few seconds if they hadn't been discovered before and Dick was just ignoring it and avoiding all the destruction it would bring, after all you were dating a detective, it wouldn't surprise you if he was holding the fuse until it burned.
"Dick, I--"
"Please tell me I got it wrong and that you didn't have sex with my little brother."
Yeah, you were sure he already knew before.
"It's true and I hate myself for it." Lie, you sure hated being the reason for all the sadness and disappointment emanating from Dick, but you still had a side of you that didn't hate what you had with Jason. You got out of bed and started picking up your clothes from around the room to put them on. "That was a mistake, it didn't mean anything."
"Didn't it mean anything? God, it almost gets worse. Has anything ever meant anything to you?"
"Yes, it did, with you. Our courtship meant something to me."
"How do you expect me to believe that?"
"Because it's true and you know I love you." You could feel Jason's gaze burning your back not yet completely covered, the younger's silence certainly made you more tense.
"No, you don't. You have no idea what love is, Yn. You don't know what it means to love someone. Because when you do, you'd rather die than hurt the other person. sure don't fuck your boyfriend's fucking brother." Despite the aggressive words, Dick spoke calmly, no swearing uttered in the highest pitch of voice, and that was frightening to say the least for you.
"I'm sorry, Dick." Nothing would do from now on, but even so you felt the stubborn tears running down your face. "I love you. And you love me, you love me, Dick. Remember?" One step in front of him was two in Grayson's retreat.
"Yes. You have no idea how much I love you, but this is something I'm going to have to get over."
"Please, Dick, listen to me. I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, I--"
"Can you shut the fuck up, Yn? Because if you keep apologizing, I'll feel like an idiot for not forgiving you. And if I forgive you, you'll just break my heart all over again and... I trusted you." You watched silently as Dick ran his hands through the black strands of hair, he always did that when he was nervous and didn't want to lose his temper. "You once told me that I had the power to destroy you. But you know what? You are the only thing that destroys people. I wish you had never come back."
"Dick, wait--" You yelled as Dick turned, walked out of the room and answered you with the slam of the door. For a moment, you thought about going after him, but stopped when you heard a snort of laughter from whoever was still there. Your troubles weren't over yet.
"What the fuck was that?"
Justice is delayed, but it does not fail. That's what they say, isn't it? The consequences of your lies kept coming. You made Jason believe that you loved him and that you wanted to be with him, now you'd said that everything they'd been through meant nothing other than that you loved someone else. You managed to break two people's hearts in such a short time.
"I made a mistake, we did."
"I really liked you. Fuck, I told you I loved you and you said you did." You refused to turn and face Jason at that moment. "Is that why you didn't break up with Dick sooner? Was I just a hobby for you?"
"That's not how it happened and you know it, Jason."
"I spent my whole life thinking I'd never be as good as he was. You were the only person that made me think that maybe I was. But I guess it was all a lie, huh? Because that's what you do, you mind, mind and mind compulsively."
"You did too, Jason. You're just as wrong in this story as I am."
"No, Yn. It wasn't me who cheated, it wasn't me who said I love you without loving. I wasn't a motherfucker to anyone." Hypocrite, obviously he'd been, he'd betrayed his own brother's trust, but you weren't in the right frame of mind to start an argument with Jason. "And I won't be the one who's going to be alone, because you know what? 'That's enough for me."
Perhaps the only truth in all of this is that you didn't love, and I dare say you never did, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. You loved how they made you feel.
Dick was nice and kind and caring, he made you feel wanted and loved. It gave you the peaceful feeling of a picnic in the park on a sunny day. He was her happy ending to a cliché romance.
Jason was hot and sin personified, he made you feel the adrenaline and he became your addiction. It was like feeling butterflies in your stomach when you were riding a ride too high or too fast in an amusement park. He was the tension and suspense of a horror movie.
You didn't love them, but you wanted to have them both. You wanted to have two things that were impossible to have together, but you couldn't choose just one. You planted a bomb among the Waynes and left without rendering any assistance when it exploded. You wouldn't be there to see the damage but you hoped everything would be okay.
And now, you have nothing left.
