βWhen I was little and wandering in the wild, I didnβt have a blanket, so I used my tail to cover myself.β
Valko meant it as a passing comment, really. A fun trivia about his tail. A tidbit of memory that surfaced while helping you fold the big fuzzy blanket you had just shared for movie night.
But you paused mid-fold, and turned to look at him with a frown.
Wandering in the wild? When he was little? Without anything� How could that happen?
You thought of a much younger Valko, all alone in a dangerous forest at night.
Probably muddy, hungry, and shivering from the harsh wind.
Exhausted and leaning against a tree, curling around himself before hugging his tail.
βBabe?β He tentatively called, observing you.
Your lips quivered. Gaze looking elsewhere as you tried to dodge his inquisitive eyes.
βHey now, are youββ concerned, he sets the throw blanket away and comes closer to gently cup your face, guiding you to turn back to him. βAre you feeling sad for me?β
Your eyes finally meet his, and he sees the sheen of tears that has started to gather in them.
He presses his forehead to yours. He understands your sincerity. Youβre always so sweet to him. He vows to keep your tender heart safe.
βThere is no need,β he says in a low voice, thumbs caressing your cheeks as he coaxes you. βThat was a long time ago. Iβm fine. Didnβt mean to make you sad.β
You huff, burying your face into his chest as you wrap your arms around his torso. βYou must have felt frightened.β
He says nothing, just slowly runs his hand over your hair.
βIβm going to build a time machine.β You mumble into his shirt.
You feel the vibration on his chest as he chuckles. βAnd come find me?β
βYes. Iβll be younger too. Iβll bring a blanket. And a flashlight. And a tent. And some food.β
He hums. βAnd a gallon of my favorite chocolate milk?β
That gets you to smile. βSilly.β You squeeze around his waist. βWeβll make it a fun camping night. Play games, count the stars. And when daylight comes, Iβll bring you to your family.β
He kisses your forehead, then nuzzles into your hair. βThank you, my love. I would have been thrilled to meet you back then.β
He sits down on the couch, leading you to sit sideways on top of him, then lets out his tail to drape over your legs. You giggle, leaning on his chest as you gently brush your hand over his fur.
He regales you with other tales of his childhood, making sure to mention happy memories and exaggerate his mischievous moments. Until he feels your breathing start to even out.
Valko carefully lifts you up and carries you to bed, sliding under the covers with you. He turns to look at your face for a while, before finally settling in to hold you close for the night.
He dreams of that forest again, and sees his younger self. But this time, the small werewolf is happily following a little firefly that chose to stay and light his way. βWeβll be just fine, bud.β He says behind them, the weight of this memory feeling much lighter.

with your work trip coming up in a few days, you bring out your suitcase and lay it down on the floor. you open it up with the zip, the loud sound causing your boyfriend to come into your shared bedroom.
βpeach, do you have to go?β he asks, sitting down next to your suitcase.
βi do, valko. i'm sorry, baby. it will be a quick one this time, only three days.β you sigh.
βcan't you take me with you?β he tilts up his head, pouting so adorably.
βif you would like to make your secretary hate you, then yes, cancel your schedule for the entire week just to be sure.β you reply, placing your folded pyjamas into the suitcase.
βhe won't hate me, peach!β your boyfriend replies, fiddling with your suitcase zipper.
βhe won't say it, but his face will.β you shake your head, turning your back from him to not break under the pressure.
βi will just have to spend my days and nights, yearning for my lover to come back.β he sighs, and you smile as you fold up more clothes.
βi wish i could take you with meβ baby, why are you in the suitcase?β you turn around to see your skyscraper of a boyfriend digging into your suitcase that barely reaches his waist.

βbaby, we both know you couldn't fit into the suitcase even if you tried.β you fight back a smile, watching as he awkwardly tries to prove you wrong by smushing his long legs together.
