“Words going around about jokers gang being up to something. Not sure what they’re up to,” he took a few steps closer to the edge of the building before continuing. “I’m not even sure if Jokers even involved or it’s just his goons, but I know Where. Parking garage in the northern part of town,” he explained turning towards her. “Figured we should drop in.”

Cass stood still as a statue absorbing the information with intensity. After he finished, the girl just nodded once and murmured, “Okay,”  Before putting on her mask. The pair had been working together long enough that Cass felt comfortable simply running off in the direction, trusting Terry would be beside her.

Bruce just pursed his lips against a smirk and quirked an eyebrow, “If you’re picking up the tab, say nothing,” He says as she chews. “Waiter! She’s getting the tab!” He says loudly, but to no one really. “What’s there to be wrong about when everyone wins and we all get food and Al doesn’t have to cook?” He shrugs. “Seems like a win to me. And Damian is just a boy, surely you don’t mind his opinions? And if he’s a jerk, since when are you afraid to put him in his place?” Bruce asks as he picks up his burger, taking a bite. “How long have you been in town?”

Cass just shook her head at Bruce’s antics, a small blush rising to her cheeks as surrounding customers looked over at their table. She just ducked her head, staring down at her toes as she felt the eyes roam over her and eventually back to their own lunches. 

“I like the idea.” Cass reiterated as she took another bite, “And I don’t ... mind Damien’s opinions or putting him in his place. He is ... just violent.” At Bruce’s following question, she smiled. “Not long...I plan on staying.”

Ever since Terry was stuck in the past he spent a lot of time with Cass. The two often hung out and went in patrol together. Terry was glad to have another person he could trust after the hero ban was put into place. After all what they were doing was illegal. They still chose to do the right thing illegal or not.

Terry flew through the city using his suit’s wings trying to make his way towards Cass. He scanned the rooftops until he found her before diving down into the rooftop and landing with Grace. “Sorry I’m late,” he said with an apologetic smile.

Terry was odd, even among all the mutants and metas and vigilantes that lived in Star City. His story of time travel and DNA injections seemed hard to believe, but not impossible. Besides, he was a good fighter with good beliefs and that is all Cass really cared about. She preferred not dwelling on the past anyways.

The two of them often did patrols together, becoming friends over the nights they spent together. Cass awaited upon the rooftop they decided to meet up at tonight, spending only a few minutes alone before Terry showed up. “Okay.” She assured him, her black mask off revealing the smile on her face. “Find any trouble?”

Tim grinned at her antics, reaching for a different basket. “Was that the pork or crab ones?” he asked. Given the amount they had ordered, he wasn’t sure anymore. “You can have the other one in there if it’s that good,” he said. He grabbed one of his own from a basket next to her, shoving it in his mouth. “But if you get both of those, I get both of these,” he added.

“No!” Cass called, clinking her chopsticks together, “We share...one of each.” She still had a few bites left of her first one, but she plucked up the lone bun in Tim’s basket. Cass smiled slowly over at Tim, realizing how silly she was being.

Cass was intuitive. Barbara knew that she had little hope of fooling her and acting as if everything were fine when it most definitely was not. She took a deep breath, but then released it in a soft laugh. “A lot of things. I guess I’m just a little worried about this… upcoming mission I’m going to be part of. Not for me, but for the others who are going to be involved.” 

The food she was just so excited about became forgotten as all Cass’s attention shifted to Barbara. Her brow furrowed as she listened intently and the wrinkles on Cass’s face only became more intense as she tried to conjure the right words to say. Silence filled the air as she thought of a response. “Worrying does not...help you or them. Do what will ... actually help instead. Talk or train.”

Dick never pushed Cass to say more than she was comfortable saying. He could talk enough for the both of them. He laughed and went back to cutting up his steak. “Good. I’m holding you to it. I can’t afford to get a gut, everyone on the force will laugh at me.” Granted, most of the other police officers weren’t on the leaner side, but that wasn’t the point. “We should order a few. Have a bite of each one.”

Cass shook her head at him with an easy smile with the mention of him getting a belly. It was impossible to even imagine. “Good plan.” She agreed, taking in another bite greedily. “Something... with chocolate,” Cass added on around the food in her mouth.

“You going to eat, or stare at it?” There was no annoyance in his voice, not really. It was cute – her unabashed enthusiasm for things was something Bruce appreciated it. It would be cruel of him to curb it when it was harmless, like now. “What do you think? Next time we go for take out roulette, right? Pit similar restaurants against one another, me you and Damian be the judge,” He smirks before he takes a sip of his drink.

Cass’s smile got larger at Bruce’s good-natured comment. With a spark of playfulness in her eyes, she picked up her sandwich and took a large bite looking pointedly at him. She chewed laboriously because of the enormous mouthful but refused to let any regret of the decision show on her face. Once Cass was able to get down most of the food, she responded, “Sounds...fun, but might end in fight. Damian doesn’t like being...wrong in opinion.”

Tim watched in amusement as Cass basically drooled over the food the waiter had just put down in front of them. He had taken her out for dim sum, and they now had an assortment of baskets set around them. He already knew his favorites, but he waited for her to make the first move. “Which one are you going to try first?” he asked.

Cass took on the decision of choosing which of the buns to tear into first with the utmost seriousness. Inspecting each of the baskets offerings, she meticulously searched until she found the most appetizing bun. She pointed to the chosen one with her chopsticks, before picking it up and taking a rather large bite. It tasted like heaven in her mouth and she hummed with pleasure while chewing.

Barbara had a manual open in front of her and she was skimming the second chapter with her index finger, barely even poking at her food with her other hand, and she looked up when she saw Cass’ excited gesture. She couldn’t help but laugh, reaching for her drink. “What’d you get, anyway?” She asked curiously, playing with her straw. “I wasn’t even paying attention.” Ever since she’d heard about Gabe’s new mission she’d been distracted, but so far she’d avoided telling Cass anything about it.

Barbara’s distracted mood had Cass worried for her friend. With a shrug, she dismissed the question, not really caring to remember what this sandwich was called anyways. Words were still hard for Cass. “Does not...matter. What are you thinking...about?” She asked. The art of subtly in conversation was not a skill the girl ever acquired.

Dick tried not to choke on his sandwich as he watched how excited Cass was getting over her food. He brushed his fingers against each other and smirked, making sure to wipe his mouth and make himself wait until he was done so he wouldn’t speak with his mouth full. Another thing Bruce had taught him was manners. “Don’t eat that too fast,” he warned, pointing at her with his napkin. “There’s still dessert to think about. I’m not inhaling one of these double fudge things all by myself. I don’t need one of these waiters judging me.”

Cass was lifting up her fork about to take her first bite when Dick’s voice stopped her. Lowering her hand down, she gave him an easy smile, “Waiters won’t...judge.” She assured him, the words slowly leaving her lips. It was true anyway. Nothing of the waiter’s body language was showing any signs of judgement. Then Cass took her first bite, savoring the flavor in her mouth. After a moment she added, “Still...want dessert.”

In the new life, Cass made for herself she has found how fantastic food can taste. In the past, she just ate what was given to her, often bland meals solely meant to give her enough calories to survive the day. But now, she has a choice and the ability to experience all the spices and flavors she can desire. Even though it has been a long time since the days of tasteless meals, Cass still gets a rush of excitement from trying new foods. With the gorgeous dinner in front of her, Cass is practically shaking with anticipation to dig into the food.
