Veni, Vidi, Vici ✝ Jinri & Nara & Minzy
Jinri could only flinch at the sound of the hatchet entering the skull of the other human beside her, but the girl could only stay locked in her current position, thoroughly convinced that the sight she had created in front of her could send her soul to the depths of Hell itself. When she did open her eyes, tears almost launched from their ducts when she saw the mess below her. His eyes had been locked on hers the entire time, although the expanse of red liquid escaping the crevice in his face made it almost impossible to see his pleading, terrified expression. She dared to peek into the crevice for a moment and Oh my god is that his brain. her mind screamed as she dashed away from the body, her eyes bloodshot and spilling tear like faucets. Her heart began to speed up as she curled up next to a shrub, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees as she silently wept for the horrible deed she had committed. They were good people, her mind taunted her. How could you? It’s all your fault, after all.
After a moment of creating such a scene, she sat up and wiped her eyes, averting her gaze away from the two bodies that had been mercilessly slain by the three girls. She had kept her head bowed to the ground, concealing tears flowing from her eyes, regardless of their flow slowly coming to a halt. Her eyes had wandered to the girls, who had been accomplishing God knows what during her pathetic mental breakdown.
“S-So, um..” Jinri muttered, her eyes wandering around the area, her panting slowly coming to a halt. “You mentioned the lighthouse, right?” Her voice sounded inhuman as she tried to not bring up the brutal murder that the three had committed. She was questioning the decision of joining the group, possibly from the fact that it would make the end of the ‘game’ that much more difficult. Even though the shock of murder had overwhelmed her thought processes, the idea of winning this cruel game had lingered in the back of her mind since she had murdered Hyeri. Wouldn’t joining the group cause her to practically seal her fate with a premature death? Her mind fought a battle with itself about the topic, leaving Jinri to have to choose the inevitable.
“Do you think I could join?”
It would be alright, she repeated Minzy’s words again and again in her mind, chanting them silently until she began to believe them. So far they had survived, and once the nearing midnight struck, they would have survived the day. After that they could…what about after that? She held herself tighter, refusing to acknowledge that if it was impossible to break the rules, then there could only be one of them standing. Only one, and that person may not be her, and her eyes traveled over the two girls, and shut the thoughts out. Not now, she wouldn’t think about that so soon, not right after they had ended two lives, and Nara had to force herself to look away from the hatchet stuck in Chanyeol’s skull. They were safe, for not, but they were also murderers, and the ghosts of their classmates would follow them to their graves.
Again, she pulled herself together, taking the shattering bits and forcing them to stick together. She put her arms back down at her side, the limbs pendulous as she breathed, taking deep inhales to collect her sanity, Jinri’s speech serving as an adhesive to the process. It was something to focus on, outside of the death, the killing, and she took it, turning towards the girl she once called a friend. “Yeah, we’re planning on going to the lighthouse. It should be safer there and it’ll allow us to see if anyone comes our way.” Nara explained, and her voice was oddly steady for someone who had just killed. Her fingers curled, no, she had to think about surviving, couldn’t dwell on the dead, it was too late for them.
“You can.” It was a relief, and a new fear, but Jinri had helped them, and she didn’t seem like someone to betray them, so she put a little trust and faith into the girl. She, however, couldn’t smile to reassure her, and instead returned to the bags, taking out the supplies the boys had. She would keep the gun and the bullets that came with it, but the rest of their supplies would be distributed. Two water bottles, both half full, two cups of ramen, one loaf of bread, two boxes of matches, one map, one compass, and the binoculars. At this point, at least they wouldn’t starve.
“Minzy.” She stood, one of the water bottles in hand, and she was hit with realization. Nara planned to kill both of the boys, and she hadn’t, Jinri hadn’t, therefore it had to be the fragile girl, and when she looked to her short haired classmate, trembling, she realized the truth of what had happened. If she didn’t do something, she would break, and she approached the girl, outstretching her weak arm to pass her the water bottle. “Here, drink as much as you want, it’ll be fine.” It wasn’t a request but an instruction, and this time she could manage a smile, no matter how fake. For now, each of them needed one another to stay alive, lest they each find fates similar to the two boys that had just executed.
Staring at what she had done to Chanyeol it seemed like Minzy had completely lost control over her own muscles. Trembling heavily on her spot on the ground the shocked girl could only think of how awful she was as the whole world got pushed aside by her. She didn’t deserve it to live. Not after what she had done. This whole place was cursed and she didn’t want to be here. She didn’t want to kill someone else. That wasn’t right and it shouldn’t be supposed to be right or feel right. If killing someone felt right then you were a monster and monsters aren’t supposed to live. Where first Minzy wanted to get out of here now she only wanted to die. She couldn’t live with the knowledge of what she had done and she didn’t even dare to think what her mother would think of this. She’d probably break the poor woman’s heart. No, she certainly wouldn’t be able to face her mother if she ever would manage to get off this island alive. No, she had to die here. That would be the best for her and her mother.
Momentarily waking up from her train of thoughts when someone spoke her name she broke her gaze loose from the hatchet to look at the reached out water bottle. Glancing cautiously and totally confused up from the bottle to Nara and back down for a couple of times as she processed Nara’s words in between the death screams her mind threw at her, it looked like the short-haired girl was going to refuse Nara’s instruction. It wasn’t going to be fine! Nothing was going to be fine! Ever! Wanting to scream exactly that to the girl’s face, Minzy only then realized how heavy her under lip and her jaw were trembling because she failed to get out a single sound. Feeling how her frustration faded away again as soon as it had come up, she helplessly focused her gaze on Nara and held it for a second or two after which she finally did reach out with one heavily trembling hand to take over the water bottle from the girl. “th-th-th-Thanks.” She managed to get out when she put her fingers around the bottle and retreated her hand.
Hugging the bottle against her, her eyes fell shut momentarily as she tried to regain enough control over her muscles. Trying to suppress the involuntary movements as good as she could muster, she reached out a hand to the pocket of her blazer with still a trembling hand. Taking the two herbal pills out of it she just put the dirty things in her mouth and then proceeded to empty the half full water bottle as she swallowed the pills meanwhile. Glad that she was drinking from a bottle because otherwise she probably would have spilled half of the water on the ground. Her thirst being quenched as at the same time her mouth didn’t feel as unpleasantly dry anymore she threw the empty water bottle aside. Watching how it landed on the ground a little end in front of her she breathed out a deep sigh as she finally regained control and stopped trembling. Even though she had managed to pull herself together enough so she wouldn't make a total scene, Minzy was still far from being stable.
Making a quick decision for herself she put her hand around the hatchet again and pulled it out of Chanyeol's head. Making a face at the blood on the blade she crawled closer to the boy so she could use his clothes to clean the blade off. Standing up the moment she was done with that she stood a bit unsteady on her legs as she eyed the two others, without sayiing a single word to them, while she waited for them to move so they all could go to the lighthouse. Of course she wouldn't forget to take her bag with her and carry any other bag if someone would tell her to do so.
