THE FOUR HORSEWOMEN
I’m calling it now:
Bayley is main eventing Wrestlemania next year.
Every other 4HW did it. Now it’s her turn. BAYLEYMANIA WILL HAPPEN ON 2022.
SmackDown || December 25 - 2020
Guys I hate Bayley. And when I say hate I mean I love that obnoxious dumbass.
So. Rewatched the match cause duh. There's a moment where Sasha just stops and stands in the corner and looks just fucking devastated. She takes a second to mourn the friendship in the middle of a blood bath. And then at the end after she's won, she stares at Bayley broken on the mat and ignores the championship entirely. And its not a haha fuck you I won kind of look. Its a why did you make me do this kind of look. Sasha spent months eyeing that belt and in the end, she stops to mourn Bayley and the connection between them, proving her case that she really had cared the whole time. Then she stands over the ashes of that bond with the belt in hand because she's still the Boss.
On the flip side, Bayley spends the entire match trying to find new and creative ways to decapitate Sasha. Her transformation from lovable underdog to delusional paranoid sociopath has been ridiculously compelling but this match just shows all the ways she's lost touch with her humanity. The heel turn began with her trading her soul for Sasha. Yes she felt overshadowed, yes she felt overlooked, but her loyalty to Sasha was the linchpin. And once she decided she only cared about the championship and Sasha, everything else became null and void. Until her own paranoia convinced her that she needed to choose one over the other. Sasha chose Bayley over and over. Bayley chose the gold. And now she's left without either one.
The way Sasha stared at Bayley after she won, not even glancing at the title, tells us that this was never about the championship for her. She hoped that if she could take away the thing that has made Bayley so vicious and selfish that maybe she could get her friend back but after that match she knew it was a lost cause. She’s mourning the loss of her friend.
The storytelling of that match though... Sasha wasn’t even looking at the title when she won, it was all just about beating Bayley and you could see she wasn’t happy about having to do it either. Bayley was so paranoid about losing the title that she chose to lose her friend instead whereas it was all about Bayley for Sasha and not the title.
TAKEOVER: BROOKLYN (2015) / HELL IN A CELL (2020)
My favourite part about the Baysha storyline is that you can tell how much it hurts Sasha to attack Bayley. Sasha still loves Bayley despite everything Bayley has done to her. Even after she hit Bayley with the chair she had this look like “this is hurting me more than it’s hurting you”.
Bayley preying on Sasha’s assumptions from the past that she was too naive and trusting to ever see Sasha’s games. Bayley acting stupid and deliberately poking at Sasha’s ego until she had the perfect time to strike. Sasha thought she was in control this whole time but Bayley was playing her (and all of us) like a fiddle.
So leave the memories alone..
All this merch and being on posters. My girl is finally getting the recognition she deserves.
I’ve said it 10000 times and I’ll say it again. Bayley and Sasha are the best storytellers in the game, possibly in history.
Every word, every action, every sly look from Sasha, every passive aggressive comment, every subtle dig from Bayley. It all led to that moment. Nobody can do it like them.
Best part is we are just getting started.
