10: THE YELLING COMPETITION (0.8K)

kei tsukishima has never been threatened in his academics. but, when this girl moved to his school and the classmates that were in awe at his sky-high grades started talking behind his back, hoping that she'll beat him to calm his ego, it hit a nerve tsukishima never knew he had.

not that he cared about those idiots. however, the thought of them believing a higher power than him, asking someone else for answers in class and befriending her. that is true betrayal. these idiots never once asked him if he wanted to go eat lunch.

whatever.

it's not like he needed them anyways.

which is why when he sees his classroom almost empty during lunch, he's not surprised. they're all probably hanging out together instead of studying.

a random classmate notices him, "y/n's making great money out of you."

"what?" he asks, accidentally more aggressive than he needed to be.

"you didn't hear?" another classmate asks.

tsukishima furrows his brows and shakes his head. what is this girl up to now?

"basically, y/n's got everyone in the courtyard and she's getting them to pay her, so that they can hear what happened between the two of you today," the classmate explains. "she says it's because you told her to stop talking online, so she turned to—"

"courtyard, you say?" he interrupts.

a silent rage crawls into every crevice of tsukishima's insides. the classmate seems to acknowledge this, opting for a nod. tsukishima dumps his bag into his chair and walks at a brisk pace down the hallways. trying to keep his cool, trying to hold onto the last bit of sanity he has in him.

while getting there, all he's thinking is, i'm gonna kill her, i'm gonna kill her, i'm gonna kill her. because, truly, what is she thinking? he thought he got it through her that he didn't want anything to be spread and she opted for this? this is worse. it's public humiliation without him there.

he wished she never moved here.

he'd still be number one, he'd still have classmates asking him for help and all the teachers would only look at him.

y/n isn't hard to locate. she stands in the middle of the courtyard, on a bench as his whole class—no, half the grade stand before her. it looks like a movement, a protest of some sort, which irks tsukishima even more.

"what the fuck?" he huffs as he walks through the crowd.

students gasp around him, realising the subject of the speech has revealed himself.

y/n is going on and on, "—like, he thinks he can beat me, but...tsukishima?"

"are you serious right now?" tsukishima asks, crossing his arms.

her expression falters for a nanosecond before she picks it up again, "yes. yes, i am! i have a truth to spread and you can't stop me!"

"you're making money out of me. this is defamation!" he yells back at her.

she points down at him, "who are you gonna tell? snitches get stitches!"

"you are such a child," tsukishima groans. “an overgrown one.”

“yo, tsukishima. are you calling her fat?” a random asks.

just then, the vice principal appears. he looks between tsukishima, y/n and the crowd of nearly a hundred students loitering in the courtyard.

"what is happening?!" he asks.

tsukishima locks in, putting on that face that teachers love, "sir, she's imparting personal matters to the rest of the grade. she is gossiping."

y/n gasps, then, tears leaves her eyes, "sir, i would never! i was just telling the truth...tsukishima has bullied me since i got here."

"no, i didn't!" tsukishima yells at her. "why are you lying?"

she sobs into her hands.

murmurs spread through the crowd, agreeing with her.

"you kinda did."

"yeah, you've always been mean."

"sir, they're lying. they're—" tsukishima sighs, watching the crowd betray him. then, he turns to y/n. this is all her fault. and she's pretending to cry? he's not having any of this. he grabs her wrist, trying to reveal the face of the 'crying' girl.

instead, he tugs a little too hard and she falls off the bench and onto the ground.

gasps emerge from everyone.

"how dare you?!" the vice principal shouts. "both of you are creating such ruckus at school. detention!"

"what?!" tsukishima asks.

y/n looks up, the fake crying stop, "seriously?"

"you were pretending," tsukishima points out.

she glances up at him defensively, "detention won't look nice on my school record."

tsukishima doesn't even get the chance to speak about it. the students around him call it out.

"she's crazy."

"what's wrong with her?"

"please, sir," she asks from the ground, prayer hands.

"absolutely not. go to the teacher's office after school. now, clear out of here!"

tsukishima kei confirms to himself that moment that he acquired a nasty enemy. he is going to end her.
