In 2012, eight- year-old Gabriel Fernandez went to live with his mother and her boyfriend in Palmdale, California, after gaining custody of him. From that point on the boy suffered 8-months of torture before passing away in 2013.
During the 8 months that little Gabriel was in the custody of his mother he was consistently beaten, abused, and bullied by her boyfriend (and her). Gabriel was tied-up and kept in a small cupboard, this is where he spent most of his time. He was given no food but was forced to swallow cat litter.
One day when Gabriel came to school with swollen eyes his teacher asked him what had happened and he told her that his mother had shot him in the face with a BB gun. After hearing this she reported Gabriel’s situation to CPS. The teacher stated that many months passed by but the boy kept coming to school with more serious wounds.
On May 22nd, 2013, paramedics arrived at the home of Gabriel Fernandez after his mother called 911. Upon entering the house they found Gabriel unresponsive and naked on the floor with many injuries including broken ribs, a fractured skull, and severe burns. Gabriel was rushed to the hospital, where he was then put on life support. During the investigation of Gabriel’s abuse/murder it was found that the mothers boyfriend had been the one to beat him to death.
On May 24th, 2013, two days after being in the hospital, Gabriel was pronounced dead and was taken off of life support.
Gabriel Fernandez is remembered as being a kind, gentle boy. He always wanted to help others and never liked to see people sad. His favorite color was blue, and he loved Ninja Turtles.
