Keeping his gaze even on Aurora, Cooper nodded with appropriate and offered up a reassuring smile. “Okay,” he whispered, sufficiently assured that this mostly had to do with the legality of it all. If Aurora wanted to be a Holliday in the eyes of the law, he supported it. “Alright, Aurora. Trust me, this whole thing sounds incredible to me.” His gaze dropped to the papers on the table then, squinting a bit. “So do I have to sign anything? Or is it just you? Or the two of you?” He questioned, gesturing between the three of them with a questioning look on his face.
Taking in a deep breath, she tried her best to hold back the happiness and excitement of the older male agreeing to sign the papers. “Okay --- okay, great,” she said as calmly as she could before turning around to look at her mother that was smiling just as wide as she was. Reaching over, Aurora held onto her mom’s hand before pushing a few papers over to the male. “I need both of you to sign a few things, but if you need to read anything there are a bunch of things regarding the rights and all on here, it’s a really easy procedure if Mason signs willingly, but if he refuses to give up his rights, we might have to do a court hearing where I need to state why I want him to give up his rights and the judge will have to rule it out, but with me being nineteen it might be easier to do than it sounds. Although I doubt Mason will refuse to give them up, not like he used any of the years he was given,” she said before pressing her lips together. “We might still have to go to court, just to give a judge the forms but no hearing would go down -- I’m not totally sure, though. I have that somewhere in here highlighted.”

Cooper mouth twisted in thought. This was a subject that had to be approached carefully. “If this is what you want, I support it. But Aurora-” He looked down at the papers. “I don’t need signed legal papers to feel like your father. I don’t need them to see you as my daughter. I don’t want you doing this because you think I don’t.” With that said, he shot a brief look at Katie, offering her another smile. He couldn’t imagine Chase or Dinah thinking of Aurora as some unofficial sister either, at least not Chase. “But if this is what you want, I support it,” Cooper reiterated.
Leaning back in her chair slowly, she nodded her head at his words as she thoughts about it carefully. Cooper had always been someone that was close to her -- someone that actually looked after her and managed to come off as a father figure despite not even being her father. “That’s --- not it,” she said instantly, her body shooting up in defense. “I don’t --- need these signed because I don’t believe you when you say you think of me as a daughter. I just --- you’re my dad! I don’t care if it’s not blood or not, you’re my dad and it’s not fair that you don’t have a saying in my life but Mason does and he’s said less than ten words to me in my whole nineteen years of living,” she said through clenched teeth, praying that talking about Mason wasn’t affecting her mother. “I want to be a Holliday, legally. Please.”

Having wandered to the table as soon as Aurora warned him that she would be there, Cooper looked up from his book once he heard the door open, brows furrowed in concern. Instead of pressing for an answer as far as what she needed and if she was okay, he opted to keep his mouth shut while Aurora started pulling papers out, leaning forward with his forearms on the table, equal parts confused and curious. “What are these?” He didn’t really expect an answer anyway, so it didn’t surprise him when he didn’t get one until Katie had joined them. Though worried, he still offered up a dopey, happy smile at the sight of her before he focused on the matter at hand again, leaning back in his chair when Aurora came out with it. “Are you sure this is what you want?” He asked, his tone gentle and worried at the same time.
Taking in a deep breath, Aurora finally sat down in a chair across from Cooper with a nod of her head. Despite it being her mothers last say, it was Aurora’s choice and something she managed to want for a while now, but refusing to go through with it in hopes that her actual father would change his ways and come back into her life. “When the whole thing at school happened, you helped calm me down and that was kind of the moment I realized that you deserved the title of my father rather than Mason,” she muttered with a shrug and a small smile, despite the topic of the bullying at hand. “You’re --- basically my father anyways. You married my mom, I see Dinah and Chase as sisters and you’re always protective. Mason never stepped up, I didn’t know he was my dad until this year and he has his own family now so why can’t I officially have mine?”
To say she was petrified was an understatement as she walked through the door, instantly allowing her eyes to fall on Cooper. Dropping her bag on the chair, she kept her lips shut and began to pull out a bunch of legal papers, scattering them on the clean dinning room table that was probably getting ready to be set for dinner or something along the sorts, but now it was filled with research and even a few documents that needed signatures. Taking out a breath, she ignored questions that were arising until her mother joined the party and she finally looked at her mom then at Cooper, allowing their eyes to meet. “I want Mason to revoke his parental rights and for you to adopt me. I want to have your last name and be your daughter.” // @cooper-holliday
