For Your Finformation: Yellowfin tuna can both raise and lower their first dorsal fin making them incredibly e-fish-ient swimmers. As a tuna speeds by, it uses a hydraulic mechanism to articulate its dorsal fin along a range of angles—closer to its body for quick bursts of speed or forward to “put on the brakes”—an excellent adaptation to have when chasing down prey at 46 miles per hour!
