Are you still doing GUE, or has it been overtaken by Superhuman Safety Squad? I'm happy either way; I love them both. I'm just curious.
A couple people have asked this. Here's the deal: I never planned for Superhuman Safety Squad to be a continuing series. It was only ever meant to be so completely self-indulgent little character design exercise, but the response was so positive-- on a level that was completely unprecedented for something character-based from me-- that I felt a level of drive to do more that I never had before. GUE never had that. And that's fine, but it never had that. Nowhere close. And of course, nobody should ever be making art if they aren't doing it for themselves. But that being said, it's hard not to feel disheartened when the thing that you've been putting the most effort into is getting the most tepid response.
But even IF the response had been stronger to GUE, the type of work I'm interested in doing, and the forms and formats I'm working in have changed so much in the past few years that the story and framing of GUE no longer feels as natural to work in. You can even see this in the last couple 2 chapters, where it's largely just characters explaining stuff to each other-- fantasy speculative evolution that could be better delivered in a different format. On top of all this, my time is currently split between a bunch of different very cool creative projects that I can't really talk about right now. I'm afraid I just don't think it makes sense right now for me to return to that series.
But... but...
It's impossible to deny that there's some lingering feeling of paternal obligation to these characters, as silly as it is. So, I don't know. Maybe they'll return in the context of something new and amazing.

Considering you mentioned a while back you listened to Joy Tactics and they run in the same spheres (see also: pendejo time / pal) do you watch Joe Box and would you appear on a hypothetical "all cartoonists" special episode of Joe Box
I'll appear on whatever but I haven't seen any of those other things

do you think Naoki Urasawa is overrated
What a specific question. Yes I do, in fact
pieces of your 2018 political rising stars comic have been given a new life and making rounds around polish internet
Send it to me Rachel
what the hell did I just read
I really like blue gene’s “do not be afraid I am a superhero I am here to protect you” vest. would it be okay to use in a design (non commercially) w/ credit or do you not care or prefer if it wasn’t replicated
sure whatever

Thoughts on perfect tides if you're willing to share?
I posted my review for Perfect Tides: Station to Station on twitter and bsky already, so I'll drop it here too. Spoiler-free:
Bumping My Novella
Post Perfect Tides 2 malaise has me feeling unwell about my own successes as a creator, so I'm bumping my illustrated novella again to remind myself of the potential for pathos in humanism in my own works. If you're a real beanhead, and you haven't read it, I think you'll enjoy it. Few years old now, not perfect, but it's the last project of this scale that I accomplished. Maybe I'm overdue for another one-- something's gotta give
a bit of a weird question, but are you okay if people selfship with Superhuman Safety Squad characters?

Question about presidentman because I have to know: what's the most recent president that he has the powers of?
Potentially terrifying follow up: is he somehow able to gain the powers of more recent presidents who were elected after he was created?
Obama. The timeline diverged after that and the current president is an independent named Roy G. Biv
is there an official color scheme for the super huma safety squad? i really want to draw them but don’t want to get the colors wrong
Blue Gene's skin and hair are different shades of blue
Presidentman's hair is black
Brand's hair is snow white and her burn marks are uhhh burn mark color I guess? I always pictured her having unnaturally pale, deathly looking skin from the transformation too I guess
Moon Maiden's whole body, including her wings and tentacles, are the nasty off-white grayish color of raw squid meat (and the triangle on her chest is a boob window)
There is no set color palette for the costume, I designed it purely with greyscale in mind. Same with all the supporting characters (except flearanger, who obviously looks like Ghost of A Flea). Think of it like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's approach to color schemes, if you like. Have fun with it
are you planning on getting at least a few issues of super-human safety squad out? love all your work but i'm actively invested in this.
Part 2 is already written. I'm incredibly grateful to actually be able to work on a character-driven series with a wide appeal, so if people want to see this stuff continue coming out, please continue to go out and proselytize. So long as it continues to elicit a positive reaction and get fresh eyes on my work, I'm absolutely going to continue to work on it.
