Formal apology to my followers, up until this point I did not realize how problematic tumblr user sixpenceee is. Iāve been following them for quite some time now and reblogging a lot of their posts.
For the most part I liked the fun facts and some horror stories (none of which I personally have read have I noticed to be vilifying the mentally ill or generally ableist, but I could have missed it out of ignorance or some internalized ableism that Iām sure I must have, or whatever the case, BUT nonetheless they have posted stuff like that before and I hope to hell I didnāt reblog it), but I recognize reblogging their non-problematic posts is basically the same as being a bystander and I might as well be supporting the problematic posts as well.
For those of you who might not know, a quick sum up, sixpenceee has been called out as, like I said, posting horror stories with mentally ill people as the villains, as well as posting misinformation about scientific facts, posting stories from reddit without sourcing the original author, stealing art (or at least using stolen art) for their tshirts, sending anonymous anon hate (Iāve yet to see actual proof of that one but I havenāt looked very hard either. There have been claims that someone got the IP evidence), as well as generally ignoring peopleās requests to change behavior.
They /have/ issued an apology on multiple occasions, but as well-intended as it seemed to be (to me), there was a bit of āpoor me Iāve been called outā self-pity in there where there should have been more āokay I take full responsibility and Iāll fix thisā. Additionally, while they HAVE made an effort to remove stories with mentally ill people as victims and recognized this as problematic, and HAVE started sourcing their stories more properly and adding the appropriate trigger warnings, there has been little to no response about the art theft, the misinformation/straight-up false scientific facts, and they continue to post things about āweird and whackyā side effects/facts about mental illnesses and other physical conditions āin the name of scienceāā¦ Which honestly is just a thin-veiled excuse for ālook how WEIRD this person with schizophrenia is! Isnāt the human body freaky?!ā.
They donāt seem to understand the problems with that mindset, or at least theyāre ignoring it now.

I will no longer be reblogging anything from sixpenceee (note the 3 eās), but note, I will still be following them. I want to keep tabs on whatās going on.
Also because I am immensely lazy Iām not gonna go and delete all the posts Iāve reblogged from them already (unless thereās a really quick way to do that I donāt know about), however, if there is a post one of you comes across and finds to be justā¦ Just gross. Or problematic in any way, let me know where I can find it, and Iāll delete it.
Again, Iām sorry to any of my followers who I might have hurt by my ignorant support of that blog. Hopefully everyone who sees this will stop following/reblogging from them as well. Honestly Iāll probably reblog this a few times.
((I want to encourage people, however, to handle this responsibly. Donāt go to their blog and start sending hate. The blog was originally run by a girl who was like 17 the last I checked (she now has a friend or two to help her run it when she gets busy) and while that doesnāt excuse ANY behavior on her part, keep in mind that they are still a person/people, and do not deserve to be told to die, or to kill themselves, or other horrible things. If you must, tell them what theyāre doing wrong, be insistent, be stern, but donāt be venomous.))
