N@D - The Connection EP (w/ Trikk & Bobby Browser remix)
Out tomorrow!!
N@D - The Connection EP 1. The Connection 2. Toxic Thursdays 3. True Story 4. True Story (Trikk remix) 5. True Story (Bobby Browser remix) Release Date: 10 february, 2013 Cat. No: 004BEAT Written & produced by N@D Mastered by Sam John at Precise Artwork: The Eternians
Introducing N@D
South African house producer Alpheus Digomo is set to release his first EP for Beatcave Records on February 10. He has been making house music for a few years under his N@D moniker and played at more then a few party's in his hometown Pretoria. We had a little chat with this friendly guy.
How would you describe your sound to anyone unlucky enough not to have heard your music before?
N@D: I simply do music that anyone can relate too. I produce dance music (House music), I can't say what type of style I do of dance but it think I do Afro and Deep house.
Can you tell me where it all started for you? How did you get into production?
N@D: It all started in 2002 as a producer but 1996 that's where my love for dance music ( House Music) started, I met a friend Koketse (I call him Mouse) in 2002, we met at my cousin place where, we started making music since then. We then started a group called GaMoNa records which consists of three friends. since then i never stopped or looked back or considered stopping because of the love and passion i have for the music.
Nowadays i play my own music when i dj, i love the feedback i get from the audience.
Tell me more about your setup.
I have being using ImageLine FL Studio since I started production. I grown to enjoy working with it and find it more user friendly.
Which producers inspire you?
N@D: My friends Koketso(Mouse) and Floyd(Gagu) I do music with this guys they really influenced my style and type of House music i do. But in general any good Deep house producer.
How long does it take you to make a tune, over in 10 minutes or are you forever tweaking?
N@D: I am a forever tweaking as trying to find the right sound for my music.
How's the music/party scene in Pretoria? Are there famous clubs, nights, bars. Whats the dominant sound?
N@D: Yes we have famous places in Pretoria. The actualy call Pretoria the capital of house music. People really enjoy it. House music is more favored but the people love any good music they can hear.
Can you name a few of those famous places? What places do we need to visit when we're in Pretoria?
N@D: We have:
JackBudha in Mamelodi
House 22 in Sunnside Pretoria
Cafe68 in Mamelodi
Club Moloko in Hatfield
How do you feel the area has affected you and your music?
(I believe your music has a different sound and vibe opposed to most European house music. More groove less climax for example) N@D: as a Dj, i play house music and being booked and playing amongst top dj and producers has really affected my style. I have also learned a lot from deejaying as I get to interact with the crowd and see the respons to the music I make or play out.
I don't think the geographic area affects me that much due to I simply make music that people can relate to, we all have our own different type of music we love and Im glad that the respons i get or see when my music is played is people loving it.
N@D - The Connection EP drops on February 10 and features three original tunes and two remixes. full tracklist, artwork and audio previews will follow later. _ listen to a N@D mix for GaMoNa records:

Borealis at Ten Days Off
Borealis will be playing at the legendary Ten Days Off festival in Ghent.
Other names on the bill include Teebs, Africa Hitech, KUTMAH, Addison Groove & Gullfisk
_
Borealis won this year's competition held by 10 Days Off & vi.be and therefore they win a gig at 10 Days Off. Their mixtape and their productions convinced us with solid, fresh and varied sounds, making a good mix of future bass with Urban and Dubstep influences. Sophisticated bleeps and heavy pounding bass are combined with twisted and cut up female vocals and ice cold macho male voices. Vibe!
In their words: Borealis is a DJ & producer concept by Malko & Pim (...) experimenting with their love for Bass Music like House, Garage & Future Bass. Together with Brussels DJ Mezzdub, they're the driving forces behind the We Bring You Equipe (WBY). They made their intro with a mix for the ’54 Cares Deeply Show’ on FM Brussels, their track ‘Double U Seven’ got the support from BunZer0 on the FOB Show (SUB fm), their track ‘Tribal Hunter’ will be released on a free EP by UK label HEM:PER & they'll have a forthcoming release on Antwerp label Beatcave.Borealis wants to focus on creating a unique & own sound, which they want to do by bringing complete live sets in the future. Expect a very danceable, exciting & varied set with influences like Boddika, Mosca, Addison Groove, Dark Sky, George Fitzgerald, French Fries, Visionist, Méle, GoldFFinch, Daily, Le Cousin, ...

DVA - Pretty Ugly (LP)
We even didn't post about one of our favourite artists debut album: Scratcha DVA's Pretty Ugly!
DVA is a natural maverick, a one man spaceship, who on Pretty Ugly shows off an uncanny ability to create urban pop and dance that's full of rich musicality and unusual textures and ideas.
Like all the most exciting pop and dance music producers through the generations he has a real flair for looking from the outside in and creating his own unique colour filled, 3D sound, with a knack of tethering off-key ideas to good songwriting and pop formats. He’s a producer that has come through Grime and then uk funky but he’s always pulled the blueprints out of shape, messing with different time signatures and syncopations, unusual speeds and strange synths, upsetting vocalists and creating music that doesn’t easily slot into the format for raves. Hyperdub saw this maverick nature as a blessing, and so he’s gone into the studio and done what he needs to make the music he wants.
As the presenter of Rinse FM's flagship breakfast show for several years and now the presenter of Hyperdub’s Rinse FM show, he's sat right in the middle of London's urban music scene as a trusted and respected conduit.
Several of the singers here have been selected from favorite songs from his radio show. Natalie Maddix, Muhsinah, A.L. Zaki Ibrahim, Fatima and Cornelia, and have gone into the studio, leaving their comfort zone at the door, and writing lyrics with a twist. On the title track, Pretty Ugly, Cornelia drops a lyric about frustration and insomnia. On Why You Do?, A.L. sings about being cheated on in a surprising fashion that leaves her unsure how to feel. Fatima dreams of having more space on a new stripped down version of Just Vybe, while Zaki Ibrahim sings about a strange, glowing love on Fire Fly. On 33rd degree, Muhsinah launches an emotional coup while Natalie Maddix's Eye Know sings a comforting lullaby while Scratcha creates a zingy synth forcefield around the vocal.
Coupled with the strange uk funky inflected house and techno of Reach the Sun, Polyphonic Dreams and Bare Fuzz, the lush broken beat of The Big Five and the instrumental grime fanfare climax of Where I Belong, Scratcha DVA has come up with probably the finest match between album title and music in the history of the universe. Pretty Ugly is what it is - sweet and sour, blaring and lush, rough and smooth. We think Scratcha DVA is a genius. You probably should to.

Tom Trago - Iris Remixes
This must be one of the heaviest remix packages in a long time. A year after the release of Tom Trago's 'Iris' album we now have versions from no less than KiNK, Linkwood AND Larry Heard. All three hit the deep spots...err... TIP! Larry Heard kicks off this set with his Fingers signature sound, turning the 'What You Do' into a deep and emotional piece. Yet it is sturdy enough to be a sensual (yes, sensual) late night warehouse mover. Linkwood reworks 'Being With You' and turns it up a notch, giving it a grandiose hi-tech soul spin which is reminiscent of older Carl Craig productions.. the ones we sorely miss these days, so kudos to Linkwood for bringing it back. The frenzy starts with KiNK going ballistic on 'What You Do'. With his remix he pushes the track to madman level! For those who are not into lyricists, there is a dub mix too. Simply insane!
Tracklisting:
1. What You Do (feat. Tyree Cooper) – Larry Heard’s Fingers Dub Mix 2. Being With You (Linkwood Remix) 3. What You Do (feat. Tyree Cooper) – Kink’s Vocal Remix 4. What You Do (feat. Tyree Cooper) – Kink’s Instrumental Remix
Rush Hour will release Iris Remixes in May 2012.

Girl Unit - Club Rez (EP)
The sense that Night Slugs are slipping back into a gear similar to that which propelled their breakthrough year is strengthened with news that core member Girl Unit will return with a double 12″ EP entitled Club Rez next month.
Responsible for one of the label’s earliest releases as well as one of their most prominent tracks in the shape of I.R.L. and “Wut” respectively, the forthcoming six track release represents his first substantial material for the London based label since 2010. In the subsequent period, Girl Unit has featured on the White Label offshoot alongside New York based affiliate Kingdom and had the honour of Dirtybird boss Claude Von Stroke remixing the aforementioned “Wut” twice.
Further notice of his enduring studio prowess has been served by an array of impressive remixes over the past 18 months, with the likes of Katy B, Korallreven, NguzuNguzu and most recently Numbers additions Kodiak all benefitting. The news of his first original material since late 2010 is most welcome then, especially when it comes spread across two slabs of white vinyl and is described as “six brand new transcendental club tracks” of the producer’s “most advanced material yet”.
Intriguingly, the name of legendary New York City based producer Jellybean Benitez is a prominent reference point on the press release, and the EP comes replete with the above truly magnificent art work done in collaboration between 3D artist Sina Taherkhani, Night Slugs boss Alex Sushon and Girl Unit himself.
Night Slugs will release Club Rez by Girl Unit on May 7.
Tracklisting:
1. Ensemble 2. Cake Boss 3. Plaza 4. Double Take 5. Rezday 6. Club Rez

Untold - Change In A Dynamic Environment EP 1
After several years’ expanding Hemlock’s roster, Untold returns to the label with his own brand new cache of shape-shifting, sonic mastery. This is his first release on Hemlock since the seminal 'Gonna Work Out Fine EP' changed the game in 2009, Part one of a triple EP set, 'Change in a Dynamic Environment’ is the sound of a boy brought up on Jungle Pirates, once again smudging the edges of house/techno/bass/ oh whatever… Just listen.
