while i couldn’t salvage all the original pictures i took, these are some of the few that remained in my “recently deleted folder” i mostly went for colors that caught my attention and focal points.

put some good use to my lil’ fella. maaaaan, did he leave that spoon sparkling.
ahhhh the everyday monument: pinky ring. my initial object was a teeny tiny battery pack, but after many tries and expending all of my chicken wire i couldn’t get the dimensions right and instead i ended up with two very long, unproportional noodle batteries. so i scrapped it and decided to do the first thing that caught my attention: my pinky ring. this was all done in the span of 8 hours. while it may not be as detailed as the battery pack, i still think it was well crafted, considering that the chicken wire wouldn’t stand on it’s own, so i had to reinforce the whole damn thing. in the end i’m satisfied with my second choice.
for the “pen, no paper”assignment, i wanted to capture some of the areas of the body that humans usually tend to reach for when they’re anxious or overwhelmed. this semester has been quite overwhelming for me, and i thought that this would be a good outlet to some of the built up tension i had within me. it was pretty diffuclt painting my hands with a pen and trying to get the ink to transfer so i had to pass a wet brush over my hands and stamp it on a couple times. overall, i think i’m most satisfied with this assignment, mostly because it means something to myself.
pretty straight forward process video. i didn’t want to hot glue or permanently paste the foil to the toys because 1. i wanted to keep one of them and 2. i wanted to return the rest. instead i just covered and molded the foil to fit their figures. looking back at it, i wish i had chosen maybe an overstuffed bear, the end result of my lil’ fellas just look like lumpy baked potatos.
my original source was a bed sheet, freshly stripped from my own bed. my mother unfortunately threw it out in the middle of the process, so i gathered these lil’ fellas last minute. i wanted to maintain the idea of something comforting and something pertaining to one’s room (sheet, pillow, stuffed toy etc.), so i thought these guys would make a fine replacement.
“blues clues”
simple assignement, simple instructions, simple outcome. decided to go with blue because i noticed it’s a recurring theme, and also extremely comforting. also the name??? talk about nostalgia.
both these photos have different variations of blues and greens in them. i don’t know why, but they’re my go to shades for everything and anything. it was a bit tought trying to find complimenting colors in the environment, and even harder to have them somehow linked to me. fortunately these photos were sitting in my “favorites” folder for some time, and i finally decided to give them their turn in the spotlight.
these are all objects i found on my writing desk, they all either came from my pen holder, or were scattered about like tiny ants. it was very funny trying to pick and choose these mundane little things (which i seldom use probably) and give them some sort of higher purpose or meaning.
lil’ fellas!!! in foil!!! the reason that i chose to cover them in foil is because they were so soft and cuddly, and i wanted to make something that seemed so comforting and sweet into something that was uncomfortable. tin foil is mundane, it’s sharp, it’s expendable. it’s the complete opposite of what your prized teddy bear is to you. i like the contrast, and for a last minute fix, i think it went pretty swell.
the way that i perceived the reading for our spring break project is the following: the american flag has always been a symbol for our countrys values and morals, but over the years, it has also become a canvas in which to portray messages. it is in this way that i went forward with my flag project. i wanted to make a very obvious political message about the state of our domestic affairs. what better way to portray this than to paint our american flag, on a domestic plate, in the middle of my american neighborhood. smashed to pieces.
i picked this space because it’s a focal point for most in the west wing. everyone’s seen the jewelry studio sign AT LEAST once. frankly i am not so thrilled by my end result. i never got the right shade of grey to seamlessly blend into the circle. i also overestimated the size of the S. i think i did a neat job of trying to recreate the smudges and fingerprint along the grey, and I think i also nailed the font!! mostly i wish i had put in just a bit more thought (and honestly, effort) into this piece.

When you’ve had enough
lil’ fellas. this time among the various other everyday and visible objects of my household. the locations were all randomly selected, and have no correlation to one another. my thought process was as follows: “where are all the places in my house that i can shove these little things into at 2 AM?” and off i went!
