Beau groaned as he tried to sit up straight, tilting his head a little bit to try and stretch it out. “Do you think there’s a spell to get a kink out of my neck?” He asked whoever was nearby, raising his hand up to try and rub it. “I have practice later, and I can barely look to the left. I can’t fly like this.”

“You can assume all you want, love,” she said as she turned to walk facing forward again. “But you care about this team almost as much as I do–maybe more if I thought that was possible. And if you ever repeat that, I’ll deny it. Can’t have anyone questioning my skills as captain just yet.”

Beau felt himself smiling as she explained her reasoning for wanting him to be the next captain. “I do really care about the team. But don’t worry, no one’s questioning your skills as a captain.” He said with a bit of a laugh. “At least, no one on the team is. I can’t speak for the rest of the school.”

Brielle had received an owl from their mother asking when to expect them home for break. She loved their parents, but the thought of spending the entire Easter break at home left a bad taste in her mouth. After she’d read the letter, she sent an owl to Beau, telling him to meet her down by the lake to catch up and plan their trip home. As usual, she was running late and started jogging so she didn’t leave him waiting, but as she neared the lake, she saw a figure on the ground, her heart dropping “Merlin—Beau?” Speeding up, she dashed to his side, placing a hand on his shoulder as concern colored her face. “What happened?” Brielle searched him, her overprotective side coming out in full force as her eyes scanned for any blood or injuries. “How long have you been out here?”

Beau couldn’t believe that this had actually happened. Corban only pushed him, but somehow he’d caught his ankle on something, and when he fell, he sprained his ankle. He tried to get himself up and walk, but every time he tried to put pressure on his ankle, it seemed to give out. So, he’d resolved to lay on the ground until Brielle arrived for their meeting, and was just hoping that she wouldn’t be late. “Bri?” He lifted his head when he heard her voice, sighing as he saw the look on her face. “No, I’m fine, breathe.” He said first, starting to sit up again and giving her a smile. “I’m okay. I sprained my ankle, I just need help back up the hill.” He explained calmly, really just hoping she wouldn’t push further. He didn’t want her messing with Corban.

Theo let out a small laugh when the other mentioned Niobe. “She’s a good player, but sometimes I wonder how she became captain with that attitude.” He commented. He tried to stay clear of trouble with her, and while he managed that quite well, not everyone had that chance. A small smirk slowly appeared on his lips as Beau spoke. “Or, you could join me somewhere else, that wouldn’t be so cold. And a little more private.”

Beau nodded a little bit, shrugging. “I’m not sure either... but I’d never say that to her face,” he said with a bit of a chuckle, “or to any of her players.” It just wasn’t a good idea for him to engage with Niobe. She just seemed to hate him, there was no other way to explain it. His eyebrows raised slightly at the others words, and his smile grew. “I’d be willing to do that... whenever you’re ready.”

She smiled as her words finally hit him, hitting him on the arm as they stepped outside. “Really, Montgomery.” Sun laughed, turning and walking backwards so they could talk. “You’re one of the best players we’ve got, and I know you’ll take care of the team’s legacy after I graduate. Who better?”

Beau couldn’t stop smiling, Sun had never said anything like that to him before. “Thank you.” He said genuinely, watching her turn so she could face him while she talked. “I don’t know, I just assumed-- nevermind, I’m not gonna try and convince you out of it. Thank you.”

Beau scowled and shook his head a little bit, baffled by how someone could really behave like this. “You’re ridiculous, you know that?” He said first, stumbling back when Corban pushed him. However, his foot caught on a treeroot, and instead of catching himself, he landed on the ground, right on his back. “Fuck…” He groaned, starting to sit up and immediately reaching for his ankle. “Get the fuck out of here, Yaxley.”

“Oh I’m well aware.” Corban shrugged his shoulders, eyes narrowing as the other fell. Part of him wanted to push further but given he was already on thin ice, he thought better of it. “Fine, but I’m warning you. Try this shit with me again, and it’ll be much fucking worse, got it, Montgomery?” He hissed, before storming off.

Xander had been surprised when Beau suggested getting away for a couple days, just the two of them alone in a cabin. He wasn’t complaining or turning it down, though. Getting to spend time with the other, completely uninterrupted and without the fear of someone walking in and catching them? It was like a dream come true. What more could two totally not gay bros want in life? 

Xander had woken up to the sound of someone out in the kitchen, slowly pushing himself up and out of bed. He groaned as he stretched before heading out, smiling when he caught sight of Beau working on breakfast. “Morning,” he replied, chuckling at what he said about his hair and ran his fingers through it. “Well, whose fault is that?” he asked, walking up behind him and wrapping his arms around Beau’s waist. “Whatcha making?” he asked, dropping a kiss onto his bare shoulder. 

Beau laughed at his words, before turning back to what he was doing. “I guess you could say it’s my fault. But I could also say it’s your fault.” He teased, stirring up the eggs a bit more. It was an easy breakfast, really - he’d gone grocery shopping and put things in the fridge before they arrived so they would have some food. And although Brielle was definitely a better cook than he was, he still knew how to make a half decent breakfast... or at least he hoped he could, although he doubted Xander could do much better.

He felt a smile grow onto his face as Xander wrapped his arms around his waist, and he leaned gently against the other, his head tilting to lean on his shoulder. “Eggs. Bacon’s on the plate over there, but we only have one pan here, so I had to make the bacon first.” He explained softly, looking up at him after a moment.

Beau was shocked when his parents actually gave him the go ahead for he and Xander to use the cabin for a few days. They’d never let him in the past when he asked, but he finally seemed to wear them down... and Xander and Beau were finally going to get some alone time, and more than just a couple hours in Beau’s dorm while Nieves was studying. But, finally, they had a whole few days of not having to stress, or worry. 

The redhead raked his fingers through his hair, having just gotten out of the shower about twenty minutes prior, and looked over his shoulder when he heard Xander coming into the kitchen from the bedroom. “Good morning.” He said with a big grin, before laughing. “Your hair is fucked up.”

“Yeah, before I fucking make you. You really should be careful of who you piss off,” Corban narrowed his eyes, before forcefully shoving the other. “I mean it, Montgomery. I’m not someone you should get on the wrong side of.”

Xander shook his head, being just as stubborn as his redheaded friend. “No, before that,” he told him, chuckling and shaking his head at Beau. “Well now, that’s not my fault, is it?” he asked, raising his eyebrows at Beau. “You just need to work harder on your listening skills,” he teased back with a smirk. “I let you have that one,” Xander told him, not wanting him to get too happy about his victory. “Don’t worry bout it, bruv,” he said, waving it off before picking up a chip. “What, you want me to be begging?” he asked, wiggling his brows suggestively.

Beau rolled his eyes at his words, firmly in disbelief that Xander really believed he asked him. “Whatever, bro.” He finally said after a long pause, before gawking as he said he had to work on his listening skills. “You need to work on your actually asking skills.” He retorted, nudging his foot gently from under the table. “I wouldn’t say no to some begging.” His voice was playful, teasing - but he didn’t want them to be too obviously flirting. A least not more than Xander usually flirted with his friends.

“They usually do, but I traded Edgar for a few hours.” She shrugged, patting him on the shoulder again before she started making her way to the pitch. “Quidditch is far more important than studying, of course. And it might not be my major, but I want to help get ready when your time as captain comes.”

“Oh, gotcha.” Beau said casually, before starting to follow her in the direction of the pitch. He laughed at what she said at first, nodding a little bit. To be fair, it was his major - so even when he was studying, it usually had something to do with Quidditch... but when she mentioned him being captain, the redhead perked up slightly, quickly turning his head to look at her again. “Wait, Captain? Really?” He asked, clearly excited. He’d always assumed it would go to one of the older players when Sun graduated.

“Hey, Montgomery!” Sun jogged to catch up with him, a smile on her face as she clapped him on the shoulder. “I’ve been meaning to catch up with you, talk with you a bit about Quidditch an our next match, so if you’ve got some time to kill, how do you feel about joining me down at the pitch? going through a few drills and catching up?”

Beau looked over his shoulder as he heard his name and he smiled, seeing Sun down the hall. “Hey,” he paused, as he listened to what she was suggesting, “oh, yeah, for sure. I was going to study, but I can do that later.” Frankly, he would much rather work on some drills on the pitch than study anyway. “Is the pitch free? I thought Ravenclaw usually practiced now.”

“You’re excused,” Xander replied, shaking his head at the other. “I offered, you just didn’t hear me because you were too busy for your bro,” he told him, giving an exaggerated sniff. He laughed at Beau trying to use the fact he’d paid for the drinks into hustling him out of his chips. “Hey!” he said, when he’d managed to sneak another chip. “Fine, fine… Since you were generous for getting me a drink…” he replied, acting all reluctant as he pushed the plate back in the middle of the table again. “A please wouldn’t kill you, though,” Xander teased. “Oh, that makes it more fair. Yeah, sure.” he grinned. 

“When did you offer?” Beau asked stubbornly, raising his eyebrows at him. “When I was paying for the drinks and halfway across the room? Because I don’t have dog hearing, Xander.” He teased. As he managed to grab another one of the chips, he held it up in the air for a moment, letting out an “aha!” before he popped the chip into his mouth with a satisfied smirk. “Thank you. I’ll buy next time.” The redhead reached for more chips before rolling his eyes. “Wouldn’t kill you either. But that does make it more fair.”

“Um, excuse you,” Xander said, pulling his plate towards himself. “These are my chips, mine,” he told the other. “I offered to get you some, but you said no, so don’t go eyeing my curlies like that,” he said, pointing an accusing finger at his face and glaring at him playfully. “Unless that’s hunger for me, then we could skip the chips entirely and feast on each other instead,” he joked and winked at his friend teasingly, just this side of obnoxious. @finestra-starters​

“Uh, excuse you.” Beau repeated, frowning up at the other male. “You did not offer to get me some, you ordered while I was ordering our drinks. Which I paid for.” He pointed out, crossing his arms at the other for a moment. He waited that brief second, waiting for a change on Xander’s face, before quickly reaching to attempt to grab a chip from the plate again. “Okay, fair, but, here’s an idea - we eat first, then do that.”

“Yes, mate.” Corban scoffed. “Well then fucking go and find her. I’m not in the fucking mood to deal with anyone so fuck off, before I fucking make you. You really don’t want to test me right now, Montgomery.”

Beau shook his head, in complete disbelief that Corban wasn’t going to just let him wait for five measly minutes. “Before you make me? You sound so tough. It’s five minutes. You can stand being in my presence for that long, or you can leave.”

“Beau, I have five siblings. Trust me, spending time with you can be a relief,” She teased. “Especially when you’re stuck in a room with Cain and Caden.”

“That’s... fair. Five siblings is a lot.” Beau himself had one, and sometimes even just Brielle could be a lot. “Right. I don’t think I was ever alone with just the two of them, thank Merlin.”
