One of my favorite morning rituals, besides drinking a glass full of warm lemon water, is drinking “DE” with water! Why? Well…I’m glad you’re still reading!
First off… WHAT IS “DE?” - A naturally occurring rock made from the skeletons of fossilized diatoms (hard-shelled algae), known for it’s high silica content.
You will mainly see DE referenced for it’s great ability to help with the removal of parasites from the body. It does this by penetrating the exoskeleton of pests, insects, parasites and pathogens and causes them to die by absorbing their bodily fluids.
YOU HAVE PARASITES! Sorry, I know it’s not the most pleasant thing to hear….but if you eat meat, particularly red meat, YOU HAVE PARASITES (over 50% of animals that go to slaughter are parasite infected). If you don’t properly clean your fruits and veggies before consuming them, YOU HAVE PARASITES. If you are a kid (kudos for reading up until this far), YOU HAVE PARASITES! If you have animals, drank contaminated water, eat sushi (raw fish), live w/someone who has them, walk around barefoot (enter via feet), travel (airplanes are hosts), you get the picture….YUCK!
Why get rid of them? Well, besides the fact that they are foreign invaders and not supposed to dwell in your body? They are responsible for a lot of FOOD CRAVINGS, mainly SUGAR. As, they need to stay alive and need their source of “nutrition” to do so. They also contribute to food intolerance, nausea, bowel discomfort, pain, ASTHMA, sinus infections, Morgelloan’s disease and a host of other allergic-type reactions. **I personally witnessed my food cravings…snacking, mainly go away after about 3 days of consuming DE**
In addition to the removal of parasites, its extremely high silica content is great for tendons, ligaments and bones, improving skin tone….and wait for it….HAIR and NAILS! I can personally attest to the regular consumption of DE thickening my hair, and strengthening of my nails, for sure. I also use it as a natural exfoliator for my skin. It is abrasive, so it can be used as a natural toothpaste as well.
There’s also heart-related attributes to DE because of it’s high mineral and vitamin content, helping to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
DE is also very good at helping to remove toxic metals from the body (which is the primary reason I’m using it now, more on that later)
It can also be used for your pets (deworming, flea removal) gardens, and helping to control pests that are happy to enter your cabinets, as well.
Where to purchase:
I bought this 1lb tub on Amazon Prime for about $10. You can also find it at select natural foods stores. My Whole Foods did NOT carry this.
How to take it:
DE needs to be gradually introduced to your system because it is very detoxifying and cause some unpleasant effects (abdominal cramping, flu-like symptoms, though normal during a detoxification process. This is due to the die-off of harmful insects, etc. Please do not take if you are pregnant or nursing.
Start with 1/8 teaspoon in a large glass of water for 1 week and increase by ¼ teaspoon every week thereafter (week 2 ¼ tsp, week 3 ½ tsp, and so on in 8 oz of water). I take mine together with liquid bentonite clay and probiotics.
As DE is dehydrating, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated!
**If you notice, I have a spoon in my glass….keep stirring because DE can settle towards the bottom of your glass**
Happy DETOXING!
