Closed Season 3 Starter for @beautifulnigtmare​

Colin sat in his brother’s study, his gaze focused on his glass of whiskey. He couldn’t shake the strange feeling that he had been experiencing since his friend Penelope had told him during the dressing down she gave him that she wanted to get married this season. In order to repair their friendship, he had offered his help in attracting suitors for her, but seeing her dancing and smiling at other gentlemen made his stomach clench uncomfortably and he didn’t know why. He looked up suddenly when Anthony cleared his throat. “Oh, sorry brother.. My mind was elsewhere. What did you say?”

anthony loved his brother, he truly did. colin was a good man at heart, and even if sometimes he joked or teased, he was also one of the only people he would ever trust with his thoughts. however, anthony had noticed that penelope featherington had been dancing with a few gentleman and since colin had seemed distracted. ❝i was asking if you plan on staying here at bridgerton house, or renting a place?❞ he knew his brother would leave for travel as soon as the season was over...unless something kept him here. ❝kate and i will be in the country once the baby comes, to give us some privacy, so it is truly no matter either way.❞ his wife was due in a month, so they would be leaving soon. however he was a bit worried about his brother. something was off with him.

It is strange to see Sir Philip after all this time, and with their circumstances so changed. Before, Philip had been married to Marina while Colin searched incessantly for some kind of purpose. Now.. Colin was happily married to the love of his life, while the other man was a widower with two small children. A widower that would apparently be marrying his younger sister and his wife’s best friend. 

“I suppose I should be giving you the protective brother speech,” he drawled slowly as he lounged at the table, looking at his sister’s prospective fiance with a curious expression in his eyes. “And yet, I confess I felt only relief when I realized that the man El ran off to was you.” As aggravating as he found Eloise, especially when she tried to interfere between himself and his beloved Pen, he did want her to be happy. “However, my wife will make your life a living hell if you make her best friend unhappy, so there is that.”

philip felt stupid for not putting the pieces together. he had met colin bridgerton, when he came to see his wife marina, a year after they were married. he had been writing to colin’s sister eloise for more than a year now, and it hadn’t even dawned on him they were related. philip and marina had not been in love, but they had an understanding. however one look at eloise, and he felt something he had never known was possible. 

to have colin’s approval felt like a relief. ❝i appreciate that. i did try and say i would ask my aunt to come stay while she was here. the last thing i wanted was to make her have to marry him❞ she didn’t seem unhappy per say with the idea, and he was beyond thrilled. philip laughed ❝i do not have any plans to do so. i admire and respect her too much.❞ plus she was the most beautiful women he’d ever seen, however he wasn’t sure if her brother would want to hear that.

colin took her hand that he was holding and brought it to his lips for a soft featherlight kiss. ❝you do not know how grateful i am for that. i am sorry you suffered, i wish i could take that part away, but i am so blessed that after everything you love me and want him still. the way i love and want you. it is a gift i did not know i needed, but now i can not live without. ❞

Penelope’s eyes pricked with tears both at the featherlight kiss and her fiance’s sweet words. “You will never have to live without it, my love. I will always love and want you. As for the past.. what I went through is worth it to be so happy with you now, I swear to you.”

colin gave her a warm and somewhat relieved smile ❝i am glad. you’ve done so much for me. believing in my writing, which helped me find my purpose, i couldn’t live with myself if you were hurt or upset in anyways.❞ he just wanted to be for her what she’d been for him.

nothing fueled this feeling of desperation of needing penelope than the look of desire in her eyes. desire for him. desire for thing she didn’t even know yet. ❝then i won’t….unless you ask me to❞ he told her, lowering her onto the cushions of the carriage, kissed her neck, and then collar bone. any but of exposed skin got his attention.     

Penelope let out a small sigh as he lowered her onto the cushions. With every kiss that he placed on her skin, her body grew hotter. She had never felt this way before, and it felt as though she would float away if she wasn’t in his arms. Her hands moved from his hair to his shoulders, gripping tightly as she tried her hardest to keep some control of her body.

it was almost maddening to think penelope was such an innocent, when even the smallest movement made his body tightened. it was as if she secretly knew what she was doing. his hand slowly made its way up her knee, giving her the chance to say it was too much. no matter how badly he wanted her, he wanted her to want it as well.

he smiled ❝no i wouldn’t. i would rather want you, knowing soon i can have you, then never having you at all.❞ colin admitted. he could wait, he would wait. knowing what was coming made it better and awful. ❝i hope you do not plan on sleeping on our wedding night❞ he teased ❝because i know i will not.❞ colin planned to spend as much of the night making love to her over and over, making up for all the times he’d want to. ❝perhaps a whole week without sleep.❞

Penelope giggled again at his teasing, her cheeks turning a darker pink at his words. “Surely not a whole week, I’m pretty sure we’d have to stop for food at some point,” she replied, teasing him back since she was well aware of his voracious appetite. “It won’t be long now, and then you’ll never have to do without me again.”

❝and what if want you more than food?❞ he mused kissing her neck a little. ❝although i do suppose we will need our strength, we can always have it in bed, because i don’t think i could handle not being able to touch you.❞ colin admitted.  ❝sounds perfect to me. for now, this will be enough. this will always be enough. just you and me.❞

his body shivered ❝i missed you too, so much pen. i wanted you so much❞ it was almost painful. colin smiled at her comment ❝you are just as beautful wife❞ he lifted her just a bit onto the desk. kissing her frantically he said  ❝i have no objections to that.❞ he didn’t want to be the man who controlled his wife, but he did miss her in everyway a man could miss a women. 

Penelope adjusted herself onto the desk as her husband frantically kissed her. “Then have me, husband. We should make up for lost time, do you not think?” She asked, her hands moving down to undo his shirt and cravat. Her hands were just as frantic, desperately needing him as well.

colin gave her a smirk of mischeif. ❝as you wish, mrs bridgerton❞ and with that he tore off his shirt, not caring that buttons were everything where. hell he’d buy a 100 shirts, he didn’t care. he just wanted her so badly. colin had never been on that needed a women often. of course he was a man, and on his travels especially he found himself in need and want, but he had never gotten the reputation of his brother or brother in laws. however penelope had changed that. even one night away and he found himself going made. kisses were everywhere as he hand went up the skirt of her dress

colin felt touched ❝thank you pen, that means a lot, coming from you❞ even more so than his own family, penelope seemed to know him. he did not deserve her friendship over all, but he could forgive one mistake, that saved him from an even bigger mistake ❝as i wish for you, to find a husband who loves and adores you❞ but as the words left his mouth, he felt then taste bitter. he did want her to be happy with someone who adored her, but it still felt bitter. 

Penelope blinked, confused by what he meant about it meaning a lot coming from her. She had been about to ask for clarification, when he continued, making her heart sink. She sighed and shook her head. “I am afraid you will end up being disappointed then. Unless something drastically changes, I believe I will end up on the shelf.” She hated admitting that to him, but it was the truth.

colin hated that look on her face. just because she was shy, didn’t mean she couldn’t find a good match. he knew who was to blame, her family, the ton, maybe even him without realizing it. it wasn’t as if penelope was unattractive. far from her. she was quite pretty. she had long red hair, often kept up, as was the custom, she had a nice smile, kind eyes. ❝well then, lets change things❞ he offered.

colin nodded. he knew his opinion mattered to penelope, as hers did to him. he should’ve responded better. ❝i am so sorry.❞ was all he could say. colin’s face turned into a wide warm smile ❝you have always made me happy penelope. even before i knew i loved you, and how wonderful it was to be loved by you, you always made me happy. it has only grown since we’ve married.❞    

Penelope shook her head at his apology, only to smile in return at her husband’s wide warm smile. “I am glad to hear that. I love making you happy. Our life together is better than I ever allowed myself imagine before you loved me back.”

he smiled proudly at her response ❝good, i am glad. all i ever want is to give you the life you deserve. you deserve all the happiness you could ever want. you’ve given me so much, i want to give you the same.❞ colin admitted.

colin smiled. it wasn't that he worried she would stop loving him, she would love him even if he were the worst man in england. that was what worried him. she had so much faith and love for him, and had for so long, could he ever live up to it? he would never have affairs, or not be there for the children, but what if...he wasn't...what she had always dreamed? he did not want to take her faith and love for granted ❝what a lucky man i am indeed❞ he held her a bit tighter and kissed her brow

She could feel his uncertainty in the way his hold on her tightened, and she tightened her own grip on him in response. "No less than you deserve, husband. There was never anyone else for me, once my bonnet knocked you off of your horse. You make me whole."

he smiled against her forehead. he wouldn't argue with her. after all, he didn't think he was such a bad person that he didn't deserve to be happy, but colin still held onto to the small hope she'd never regret her faith in him. ❝you make me whole as well. everything is better, and everything just makes sense when i'm with you.❞

colin responded in a low husky voice ❝i would. the fact you are unaware, makes it even more of a tease. you do not even know how you beautiful you are❞ he continued to kiss her neck. yes they had made love many times since that first night, but he wondered if she truly knew how badly he always wanted her, would she be a bit frightened?

Penelope let out a quiet moan as he continued to kiss her neck. “Colin..” She whimpered as she listened to him talk. She knew that he found her beautiful, but after so many years of being the invisible wallflower, it was still hard for her to truly believe sometimes.

colin loved how she said his name. it was a whisper, and a plea all in one.  never before has someone saying his name drove him wild. slowly he removed any clothes that still kept her from him. they were still newly weds, so he liked taking him time, worshiping her body until she cried out with desire and need, that matched his own.

colin looked down at her  ❝i know that feeling well❞ he kissed her forehead ❝but it is always enjoyable to show you how much i love you❞ colin said as he slid down a bit so his lips met hers. even showing her never felt enough, but it was all he had. 

She sighed happily into the kiss and kissed him back. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders, pulling him closer to her as they kissed. She loved their kisses. She could always feel how much he loved her every time their lips met. Her hands tangled in his hair out of habit as she nipped at his bottom lip playfully.

colin loved when penelope took any sort of charge in moments like this. it showed she felt good about herself, and believed that he wanted her. not that he would push her if she never did, but he was glad she was starting to ignore what anyone else said about her. she was beautiful, desirable, and the most amazing women

colin shook his head  ❝i do not think, i know my dear. just as i know the grass is green, or the sky blue❞ he was being honest. he truly loved his wife, and he wished she could see herself through his eyes. there was something wonderful about how his truthful words, made her blush. all he had was the truth, and it was nice to know she responded that way. he never had to throw empty compliments out. 

Penelope turned in his arms after hearing his sweet words and kissed him. She poured all the love she felt for him into the kiss. For once in her life, words were simply not enough. She felt as though her actions were a better way to express how much she truly loved him with all of her heart and soul. She was his, always had been, really, but having him love her in return only deepened it.

as the kissing continued, he broke it, just for a moment to lock the door. he soon returned, and wrapped his arms around her tightly. he began his usual route of kissing her neck,as he undid her dress. her skin was so warm and soft, he couldn’t help but moan at the feel of it.

penelope felt herself shiver as he spoke to her. she felt herself melt into him, wanting nothing more than he to held by him, kissed by him, have him looked at her the way he did that made her turn from human to puddle. only colin could do this to her, and she loved every second of it. ❝just love me, love me like you do, please❞ her plea was more of a whimper. all thoughts were leaving her mind. 

“Your wish is my command, Mrs. Bridgerton,” he murmured into her ear before nibbling on her earlobe as he pushed her dress down off of her body. He groaned again at the sight before pressing himself against her as his hands trailed down the front of her body. Teasing, tempting. “You know I am always happy to do that, my love.”

the way he called her mrs bridgerton, was enough to make her whole body shiver with desire. it was a name she always dreamed of having, but never thought she would. after all, a man as handsome, wonderful, and well liked by everyone could have his pick of women. yet he chose her. he wanted her. he loved her. it was more wonderful than even in her wildest fantasies. ❝i am so happy you do❞ she had always been self conscious about her body, but she was trying, now that she was married, to only listen to colin’s words about her looks. after all, his were the only ones that mattered.

he smiled. ❝yes she is. she’s our beautiful strong daughter❞ as the infant continued to hold his finger, he looked at penelope  ❝thank you.❞ colin told her, then clarified ❝this amazing life i have now, a wife i love with my whole heart, being a published author, and now this miraculous little human, all of it because you never gave up on me. if i haven’t said it a 100 times already, i am saying it again: thank you. i love you so much.❞          

Penelope felt tears prick at her eyes at Colin’s words. “Just as I’ve told you a hundred times in response, there was no chance of me giving up on you. I might have told myself that I would have if someone had asked me, but I didn’t really try. My heart was set on you since before I turned sixteen. It has always been yours and it always will be, my love.”

he nodded. he was too moved to speak. everything about this moment was perfect. their daughter was strong and healthy. penelope was recovering, and he was lucky to just be here with them. ❝you know, when i told you i loved you for the first time, on our engagment night, i thought there was no way it was possible to love you more than i did in that moment. it couldn’t be.❞ he admitted smiling ❝then we said our vows, and i thought again, there was no way i could love you more. when you were going to give up everything you worked for so i could be published, when you told me you were pregnant.. each time i didn’t think i could love you anymore.but now❞ colin looked at his wife, and then to his daughter ❝i do not know how i could love you anymore, but i look forward to be proven once again wrong❞
