INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994) dir. Neil Jordan
Perhaps because of its depth and richness, Amethyst has always been associated with intense emotion. For that reason, the legend of its origin is fitting, depicting a tale of revenge, devotion and immortal remorse.
The Greek myth that tells the story of the stone’s origin underlies this idea: feeling jealous and unappreciated, Bacchus, the god of wine, took his frustrations out on a young maiden named Amethyst. When he released his tigers to kill her, the goddess Diana took pity on her and transformed the girl into clear quartz to protect her from being eaten alive. Some variations affirm that in his guilt, Bacchus poured wine over the quartz to honor the girl. Others say it was his tears that fell upon Amethyst and gave her the noted hue.
The word Amethyst is of greek origin and means “sober.” It was believed to keep a person clear-headed and quick-witted no matter how much wine had been consumed.
The theme of sobriety carried on in Roman ideas about how wearing the stone aided in controlling passions and lust; it was believed that wives should wear the stone to keep from straying into the arms of other men.
It was the stone set into Cleopatra’s signet ring, and the Egyptian Book of the Dead attributes the stone as the symbol of wisdom. Amethyst was one of the stones set on Aaron’s Breastplate, and it has also been highly prized by the Christian church. It continues to be considered a powerful amulet in metaphysical practices and is thought to have a calming, or sobering, ability.

What is Reiki
Reiki is actually a Japanese therapy that is typically described as palm dealing or 'hands on body' healing in which a health practitioner places their hands gently on top of or just over the patient's body in order to facilitate a healing process.
One of the most essential and basic ideas of this healing process is the idea that vital energy can be channeled and passed on in order to support the body's natural ability to heal itself.
With that being said, throughout history there has been little scientific evidence that supports these claims. There are also no scientific claims that support the assumption that vital energy even exists. However, despite this fact, Reiki has not been proven to be harmful in any way. The worst thing that the practice can do is 'nothing.'
In recent years, this practice has actually been introduced and integrated into many different health care settings including; hospitals, and other clinics. A lot of recent data suggests that this type of therapy might actually play some sort of role in reducing the overall amount of anxiety and/or pain. It may also improve relaxation, fatigue, and even help reduce the symptoms of depression.
Where Did It Come From?
This particular therapy can be dated back to the late 19th and 20th centuries. These techniques were introduced by Mikao Usui. His teachings and techniques were actually inspired by several different traditional Asian healing practices.
The root of the practice is the concept that disease is mainly caused by imbalances of vital energy within the body. These imbalances cause many different problems in the body and improving/correcting these imbalances can promote overall healing of the body.
How Does It Work?
A Reiki session is performed by having the patient lie down on a massage table. Once the patient lies down, the practitioner then places his/her hands directly over the patient's body. They do this in various different positions which usually start at the actual crown of the head.
The Reiki energy then works by flowing through the actual practitioner, out of his/her hands, and through the patient that is lying on the table. The exact mechanism from which the body passes on the energy is unknown. Believe it or not, but some Reiki masters even claim to be able to treat patients despite not being located anywhere near them. This practice is known in the field as, "distance healing."
No one actually knows how this practice works. Some people assume that it has to do with the body's natural electromagnetic field. Another theory is that it simply promotes overall relaxation which can help lower the patient's stress levels and encourage the body to naturally heal itself.
If you are interested in trying out Reiki, you are going to want to find yourself an experienced practitioner. Many people have reported excellent results from this practice despite the lack of evidence from research and other studies. Be sure to find a practitioner that is experienced and knowledgeable in the field. Follow us:
