Summer Tips
So this might be my last post on this blog. But I wanted to end it by giving you guys tips for this summer. I hope all of you have an amazing summer and get that glowy and tan summer skin. Here are a few tips on how to protect your skin and hair from the hot summer weather.
Sunscreen:
1. Choosing the right sunscreen
The SPF means the amount of time you can stay out in the sun without getting burned. For example, an SPF of 15 means you can stay in the sun for 15 hours without burning than you’d be able to without any sunscreen. I recommend using at least an SPF of 30, the higher the better because of more protection. But please use sunscreen even if you're not going to the beach because you guys might think it’s whatever and you won't get burned but it’s actually really bad for your skin.
Be aware that even if you use an SPF of 60 that doesn't mean it’ll last you for 60 hours. Sunscreen wears off really fast you have to be constantly reapplying especially if you’re out at the beach or park. Even the best waterproof sunscreen only last about 80 minutes.
Make sure to look for an SPF that protects you from UVA/UVB rays. UVA rays can cause premature aging, fine lines, and skin cancer. UVB rays cause burning.
2. Apply A Lot. “The American Academy of Dermatology recommends following the “one ounce, enough to fill a shot glass” rule. That means applying as much sunscreen as would fit into a shot glass over every exposed part of your body. “
3. Don’t think that because you're wearing clothes you’ll be protected. A tee only has an SPF of about 8. So you can use clothing for the extra measure but also use sunscreen.
Skin Care:
1. Use non- comedogenic products. “Non-comedogenic beauty products are designed not to clog pores (which can lead to irritation and blemishes). This is especially important in summer: hot and humid weather leads to sweat, which takes a longer time to evaporate off your skin, and combining that with oily products isn’t exactly a party for your pores. Go the oil-free or non-comedogenic route to ward off pimples.”
2. Stay moisturized
3. Exfoliate at the right times.
4. Aloe will become your best friend. You can buy an aloe gel at Walmart it really helps after being out all day.
5. Invest in a moisturizer that works on wet skin.
6. Don't shave your bikini line before going to the beach. “This skin is some of the more sensitive and prone to irritation, so shaving or waxing off layers of dead skin cells and then exposing it to harsh sunlight, salt, and chlorine? That’s just begging for bumps, ingrown hairs and razor burn.”
Fading tan lines
Now that summer is just around the corner I thought you guys might want or need remedies for those awful sunburns from being out all day or from going to the beach. I Sadly I’m the type of person who doesn’t tan as easily as I get sunburned. But for those of you who do tan and want to but hate the lines it leave or even for those who tan easily and want to get rid of those lines I bring these easy home-made solutions.
Potato: They don’t only help with tan lines but also sunburns. Slice a raw potato and place the slices where needed. Leave it on for about 15 mins.
Black Tea: If your tan line seems like more of a burn line this is better. MAke a cup of iced black tea, pour it into a spray bottle and spritz yourself down with it after a shower. It will soother aggravated skin and fade the lines faster.
Exfoliation: This helps the skin to eliminate the tanned skin and give room for the formation of new skin cells free of tan lines.
Milk cream: It nourishes the skin and removes tan lines effectively giving a clear and complexion. It will leave your skin glowing.
Cucumber: They are perfect for a natural remedy for tan lines. They have a high water content and nourish the skin in addition to eliminating the unwanted tan lines.
Gram Flour: This is considered as one if the best natural skin scrubs. It helps in sloughing off layers of dead skin. It also has skin lightening properties that will help evening out uneven skin tones.
Double-Cleansing
What?
So someone mentioned discovering double-cleansing and they told me I should write a post about it. I honestly just thought it meant washing your face twice but Double cleansing actually means using two different types of cleanser to properly remove impurities and effectively cleanse your skin. “Korean women understand that by using both an oil-based and a water-based cleanser, you can remove more of the pore clogging and irritating environmental agents that lend themselves to breakouts and loss of elasticity.”
Why?
“By using an oil-based cleanser as the first step of your morning and evening skincare routine, you more effectively lift away sebum and other oil-based impurities that a water-based cleanser cannot attach to — such as makeup and SPF.
Following the oil cleanse with a water-based (or glycerin-based) cleanser allows the surfactants (cleansing agents) in this type of cleanser to more effectively penetrate the layers of skin, since you have cleared away the oil barrier that otherwise would prevent this from happening. Water-based impurities, such as sweat and environmental pollutants, can then be properly removed.”
For Acne Prone Skin
I know it seems kind of stupid to treat acne with oil since oil is known to cause breakouts. The bad oil your skin produces is called Sebum and it is only bad if it builds up a lot which it does by not being cleansed properly.
“Sebum is absolutely essential to the health of your skin, as it helps it maintain moisture and contains the antioxidant Vitamin E. When we strip away sebum with harsh cleansers that contain alcohol and salicylic or glycolic acid twice a day, we encourage our skin to overproduce this problematic oil. This overproduction of oil mixed with dehydrated and dead skin cells is what leads to clogged and infected pores.”
Instead of trying to prevent sebum with harsh cleansers and chemicals you can balance it out and leave your skin properly hydrated.
Cruelty Free Skincare Brands
1. The Body Shop : Everything from there is cruelty free. They have a lot of vegan products I’ve heard they’re tea tree oil line is really good.
2. ELF: Elf is an amazing and affordable makeup line. But if you guys didn't know it also has a skincare line. You should try out the magnetic and bubble mask.
3. Queen Helene: I haven’t use it but I’ve heard it’s a really good line of face masks. You can them at the beauty supply store.
4. Alba Botanica: Everything in their line is vegan except for the lip balms which have beeswax. Someone told me that their Acne Dot collections works really good even for hard stubborn acne. Their price range is from $6-$13
5. Mario Badescu: I’m sure all of you have heard of this one. Their most popular product is the rose water but it is actually pretty good if you haven't tried it you should.
6. The Ordinary: This one is mostly chemicals exfoliants and acids. Which is actually good to get rid of acne. Usually those kind of brands are expensive but this one is affordable. Price range is about $7-$10.
7. Glossier: Probably the most expensive I’ll mention. I have never used this brand but I’ve wanted to try it. They’re online only. They have cute packaging and good reviews. Prince range at about $30-$50.
8. Derma E: They have an extensive variety of products for different skin problems. It’s affordable but a little more expensive than the rest. Price range at about $15+
Carrier Oils
A while ago I wrote a post about essential oils and their uses for the skin and it has come to my attention that it’s my post with the most notes. It also came to my attention that some of you mentioned carrier oils are important if you use essential oils because you need to dilute them first. Carrier oils are mainly oils extracted from the nuts, seeds or kernels of plants. I researched it and I’ll give you guys a list of 5 of the best carrier oils.
“Essential oils are volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly leaving behind the concentrated potent aroma of the plant - this makes them too strong to use directly. Carrier oils don't evaporate and don't exude a strong aroma, making them the perfect companion for essential oils as they retain and carry all the medicinal properties of essential oils. Also, based on the essential oils you are using, you have full control on concentration levels by deciding the ratio of each essential oil to carrier oil.”
1. Coconut Oil: This one is the most popular one and for good reason, it’s good for your hair, nails and skin. It also has natural antioxidants and it’s antifungal. Another good thing is that it retains a long shelf life.
2. Argan Oil: It is best known for its anti-aging properties and for hair growth or split ends. It has vitamin A and E which nourishes the skin so it’s also good for stretch marks. Also if you miss it with tea tree oil it is a good product for acne that won’t dry your skin.
3. Castor Oil: Castor oil can increase the count of a type of white blood cell in the body that can help to kill bacteria, viruses, fungus and even cancer cells. Ricinoleic acid is excellent for fighting acne as it kills bacteria that clogs pores while also moisturizing the skin at the same time. Omega-6 fatty acids in castor oil give hair a natural glow, improve circulation in the scalp and accelerate hair growth.
4. Avocado Oil: Avocado oil contains high concentrations of oleic and linoleic fatty acids making it a potent anti-inflammatory and along with other naturally present nutrients and antioxidants as well at vitamins A, D & E, this carrier oil is ideal for irritable skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
5. Olive Oil: Olive oil is a light oil with a fruity aroma that is not overpowering so it works well for blending most essential oils. Being non-greasy you can use it for almost any skin or hair type as it does not clog skin pores or leave hair locks looking greasy. It is excellent for dandruff, frizzy hair and dry skin.
Beach Waves
(not my picture)
You can always find cheap products at stores that turn out to be really good for the price that you buy them at. It’s rare and they always leave you surprised. I love buying beauty products. When I go to Walmart that’s the first aisle I tackle. Not necessarily because I need something but because I think it has became kind of an obsession. But a good thing out of it is discovering these new amazing products which I can later share with you. Hence now.
The picture above is the product. It’s called Not your Mother’s (I think it’s a cool interesting name lmao) and it’s a “Beach Babe texturizing Sea Salt Spray. It is absolutely perfect for summer. My hair is already wavy but for those girls who also have wavy or curly hair you know that the frizz is real and hard to deal with. I was looking for something to make my hair less frizzy or to at least make my curls tighter. And I came across this spray in a shelf next to the dry shampoo (also by Not your Mother’s) it was at 2/$5 in Walmart so I thought why not. I tried it after washing my hair the next day. I showered and combed my hair and then sprayed the product on my hair. When it dried, my curls had noticeable better shape than before. I definitely suggest all of you to test it. I’m not sure if for straight hair it would do much. It would probably make it a but wavy or obviously like the name says more textured. Please message me letting me know if it works for you, specially if you have straight hair. I would love to know what you guys think. I would suggest that if you do use it don’t spray it every day or every single time you wash your hair because the sea salt can end up drying your hair if you abuse of it. Remember everything in measure.
5 Tips on Getting Strong Healthy Nails
Hello, beauties! I’m back from Spring Break and I have so many new things to post about but first, someone requested me to do a post on how to get strong nails. And so for this post I’ll give you guys 5 tips on growing strong nails.Honestly, I don't do much with my nails. I don't like painting them or anything. I try to grow them as much as I can but sometimes they break. At least I stopped biting them. Anyway, I think some of these tips are actually really good for growing them strong. Let me know if any of them worked for you! (Everyone is different and what might work for some might not always work for others but it’s worth a try).
1.Try to keep them out of water
Avoid excessive water on nails bto keep them from breaking. Having them in water for too long can overhydrate them. To keep them from getting soft use gloves when washing dishes and try not to take long hot showers or staying too long in the pool.
2. File Properly
If you don’t know how to file it can break them. First clip them then shape them with a “fine-grit cushion file” don’t use a metal file. They are rougher on the sides your nails. Also file always on one direction, sawing back and forth with the file can weaken the nail’s edges.
3.Take Biotin Supplements
“Biotin, a water-soluble vitamin, is the only supplement scientifically proven to strengthen nails. It is nontoxic and has no known side effects, but you may want to double check with your doctor before beginning a daily regimen.”
“Researchers tested the effects of biotin on women with brittle nails, and found a 25 percent increase in nail thickness, reduced splitting of the nails, and normalizing of overall brittle nails after six to nine months. “
4. Stop polishing them so much
We all love getting new nails. I know you all start thinking about what nail color to get next as soon as you get out of the salon. But polishing nails so much without giving them a rest can leave them brittle, thin and dry. When your nail polish starts peeling take off the nail polish and let your nails rest for at least a week before going to the salon again.
5. At Home-Care
You can always pamper your nails at home if they look like they really need it. Just like your face needs a hydrating mask sometimes so do your nails. You can try buying oils for your nails. Or if any of you want me to do DIY for remedies for yellow nails or dry nails I’d love to just send me a message.
Birth Control Pros & Cons (P.2)
Continue:
Cons:
-Nausea: It is expected for nausea to last only about 3 months. Taking your pill with a meal can help until your body adjusts to new levels of estrogen and progesterone.
-Breast tenderness: This downside can last up to 18 months.
-Bloating: Changes in the ups and downs of your body’s sex hormones can affect water retake and bloating. For woman who suffer irritable bowel syndrome and other gastrointestinal tract disorders. It can last up to 6 months.
-Headaches: A study stated that up to 10% of woman have headaches the first month after starting the pill. Luckily, it also stated that most headaches go away.
-Increase Appetite: Just like when you’re PMsing and your hormones make you super hungry so does the pill. But remember that an increase in appetite does not lead to packing weight gain. There’s no proof that the pill directly causes weight gain.
-Yeast Infections: It can be caused by changes in the use of tampons and new patterns of bleeding induced by birth control.
-Mood Swings: This one is complicated because soe woman with history of mood issues- depression, anxiety, insomnia- report that birth control increased their symptoms others reported it decreased the,. So I guess it depends on the person.
-Blood Clots: The newer version of birth control (for example, Yasmin) appear to put woman on an elevated risk of blood clots. Be sure to bring this up to your doctor if you notice anything weird just to be safe.
-Brown spots on face: Although this is more likely to occur to woman who have a history of family skin issues, oral contraceptives have been found to increase risk of getting melasma which can make brown spots to appear in your face.
-Lower sex drive: This might be because of the other side effects such as bloating and breast pain because who wants to do anything while in pain? But sex drives picks up again or in some cases gets stronger about 9 months into the pill.
Birth Control Pros & Cons (P.1)
I went to the doctor a few months ago and brought up that i have irregular periods and combines with acne the doctor though i might have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). They made a few tests and decided I should get on birth control to regulate my period better and see how that goes maybe it could clear my skin too even though my acne treatment cleared by face I still have bacne. Anyway I started the pill for the first time. I took it for 3 days and those days were so painful. I had chest pains and I couldn't get out of bed or eat anything because it hurt so bad. So I stopped taking it and went back to the doctor. He said that it was probably too strong for me and prescribed another type. Now this one gave me acne again. So I stopped taking it again. I have to go to the doctor again and we’ll see if I try another type or just stop trying. Going on the pill is more complicated than I thought. This is a list of the pros and cons.
Pros:
-Reduced risk of certain cancers: A 2011 review of studies examining the link between birth control and cancer found out that increases in endometrial and ovarian cancers dropped by 30 to 50 percent among woman without history of HIV or HPV.
-Fewer Cramps: With a more regulated estrogen and progesterone your periods get on a more predictable schedule. Your period might become lighter which means less cramps.
-Clearer Skin: Because acne is largely influenced by high levels of male hormones like androgen, balancing with female hormones like estrogen and progesterone it can help cale back to less or no pimples. (But in some cases or maybe at first you can get more acne, like me. It depends on the person).
-Stronger ligaments(maybe?): Apparently birth control pills are linked with lower incidences of knee injuries.
-Fewer complications from anemia: Researchers believe because birth control can boost iron levels and the protein molecule hemoglobin in the bloodstream, both which are lowered in cases of anemia.
-Less pain during sex: In some cases, going on the pill can increase vaginal lubrication.
-Greatly reduced chance of pregnancy: It was kind of why birth control was created to begin with.

Getting Rid of Chest Acne
There are different kinds of acne. Just because someone’s skin seems to be clear and perfect doesn't mean they don’t have acne somewhere else. For example, my face is completely clear but I deal with back acne. Acne is hard to deal with in all places it appears. And not only that but it also lowers people’s self-esteem. Acne doesn’t make you any less beautiful than what you are. But if you want to get rid of it for your own health and make yourself feel better that’s great. For this blog, I’ve decided to help you guys with some tips to get rid of chest acne.
1. Shower regularly
If you don’t shower every day, you may develop chest acne more easily. Regular showers help remove things that block pores.
2. Use acne-fighting body wash
Body washes that use salicylic acid are very helpful. Salicylic acid helps dries out pimples.

3. Exfoliate once a week
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells which prevent your pores from clogging and form acne. Your skin will also get smoother. But don't exfoliate more than once a week because that would irritate pre-existing blemishes.

4. Use a non-comedogenic body lotion
Non-Comedogenic: Denoting a skin-care product or cosmetic that is specially formulated so as not to cause blocked pores.
When applied, non-comedogenic body lotion can help hydrate the skin without causing acne. Some lotions even contain some amount of salicylic acid to get rid of preexisting breakouts.

The correct way to pop a pimple
You should never pop your pimples but I agree that sometimes it’s very tempting to. I don’t like doing it but sometimes I end up doing it anyway. And because it is just normal to give in, this post will teach you the “right” way to pop a pimple.
First, make sure the pimple can be popped without causing any damage. Never try to pop a cyst pimple. Those are red and hard. They will leave a scar if you try to pop them and probably cause you more acne instead. You can pop pimples with a white head because they are easier since the pus is already there. If your pimple is ready to be pop the next thing you need are the right materials to pop it.
Materials:
Needle
Lighter (maybe)
Cotton balls
Rubbing alcohol
Latex gloves(maybe)
Benzoyl Peroxide
Alright so first you need to disinfect the needle. You can do this by putting it under the flame of a lighter or if you don’t have one then you can put it under really hot water. And after clean it with rubbing alcohol. Then, wash your face with your usual face wash and pat it down lightly with a clean towel. You can apply rubbing alcohol with a cotton ball to the area of the pimple because there’s never too much precaution. Now get the needle and pull up as to break the white head of the pimple. Don’t worry it won’t hurt because that’s dead skin. Then squeeze the pimple vertically with your fingertips not nails and make sure you’re wearing latex gloves or at least using a tissue. Press it until blood comes out, when you see the blood stop. Then clean the stuff and you can wash your face again. Then just moisturize normally and apply benzoyl peroxide. And that’s it. Don't touch it anymore after that and in a few days it should heal. If it leaves a mark (like with me because I’m really white and my skin is sensitive) it should disappear in a few weeks maybe months depending on your skin type.
Essential oils & their uses for the skin
It has come to my attention that people are using essential oils ore lately. I’m not sure if its just now or if I have just realized this. But I thought it was very interesting how different oils can do different things for your health. I had heard of aromatherapy before but I didn’t know you can also use essential oils to heal your skin. When I found out I started researching different types of oils and came up with the best twelve and their uses for your skin. Personally, I have not use any oils before but after writing this I’m interested in trying Lemongrass and Chamomile. Below is the list:
1. Lavender: It helps soothe irritated skin and also for cuts and scrapes. It works on all skin types.
2. Geranium: It balances oil productions and conditions skin. It’s good for all skin types. It can be added to moisturizer to control overproduction or underproduction of oils.
3. Basil: Soothes insect bites and it is great for sensitive skin.
4. Frankincese: Can help with pigmentation and also tone and tighten skin.
5. Ylang Ylang: Good for treating oily or acne prone skin and it stimulates cell growth.
6. Lemon grass: Can be used as an astringent and skin toner. It very good for making your skin glowy.
7. Cypress: Shrinks swollen blood vessels and it works as an astringent.
8. Tea Tree: Has antifungal properties. Can also treat cuts and scrapes.
9. Juniper: When diluted can speed healing time and help prevent infections.
10. Chamomile: Can treat cracked, acneic, eczema, inflammation, sensitive skin and rosacea.
11. Clary Sage: Can fight the signs of aging and reduce puffiness.
12. Neroli: Can treat devitalized, matured, aging, and sensitive skin types.
Benefits of Tea Tree Oil
1.Clearing Acne
A study said that “a 5% solution of tea tree oil works just as well as the top drugstore remedy, benzoyl peroxide.” Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with 20-40 drops of witch hazel and apply to spots with a cotton swab. But don't overuse tea tree oil because it can also dry the skin and cause more acne. When you use it avoid the sun because it is more sensitive to UV rays.
2.To remove makeup
“For normal to dry skin, try mixing 1/4 cup canola oil with 10 drops of tea tree oil in a 4-ounce sterilized glass jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake until blended. Store in a cool, dark place. To use, saturate a cotton ball with the oil and sweep over your face to remove makeup. Rinse well with warm water and follow with a toner”
3.Soothe Sores
Using a cotton swab, dab a single drop of tea tree oil, which is an antiseptic, directly on the sore. Avoid areas near your eyes and mouth.
4.Eliminate toenail fungus
“In a study, participants applying 100 percent pure tea tree oil to nail fungus for a minimum of three months did as well at killing it as did those using prescription antifungal cream; 60 percent of both groups completely or partially eradicated their symptoms. Once or twice a day—every day—apply a drop or two of 100 percent pure tea tree oil to the discolored nail. Be careful not to apply tea tree to the skin, because undiluted tea tree oil may be irritating.”
Acne Myths
1.Acne and spots are different
Truth is there's no real difference between the two. Doctors call bad spots acne often. It’s the same thing.
2. Acne is for teenagers
Acne isn't for teenagers only, it can also occur during adulthood. Theres two types of acne during adulthood, “persistent acne” which is when acne from your teenage years stays until you're an adult and “late-onset acne” which is acne that starts after you’re 25 years old”
3.Acne is cause by unclean skin
It’s mostly because your face is really oily and that oil gets trapped on your skin and therefore form the spots.
4.Chocolate causes acne
Some studies show that it might be the cow milk in the chocolate that causes acne because of its hormones and sugar.
5.MAkeup causes acne
Makeup doesn't cause acne. You can use makeup to cover up blemishes if it makes you feel more confident. Just find the best products for better coverage and its recommended to avoid oil-based foundations.
6.Spots can be a signal of health problems
There’s no real tie between the places your spots are and certain health issues. But there is some places that might tell you why you got spots there. For example:
-Forehead acne: It can be caused by some hair products like waxes and oils which block the pores.
-Cheek and jawline acne: It can be caused by phone use. Touchscreen generate a lot of bacteria on their surface and placing your phone against your cheek can activate your oil-producing glands.
-Jawline and around mouth: These are mostly from hormones. It can cause painful cysts rather than blackheads or whiteheads
Honey+Pomegranate Lip Mask
I hadn’t heard of lip masks until my friend asked me to post one because her lips have been really dehydrated lately. I’ve done lip scrubs before which are to exfoliate your lips. Honestly I thought they were the same thing. Anyway while looking online for a lip mask I came across one made out of only two ingredients. Raw honey and pomegranate juice. But quite honestly you only need the honey. Honey is a great moisturizer for your lips and another good thing about it is that it has antibiotic properties. Honey is one of the simplest thing you can use for beauty routines and it’ll work wonderfully for you. Not only lips but skin too. Id you do want to add pomegranate juice it’ll be mostly to add a but of tint to your lips more than anything but it does have antioxidants and moisturizing properties also. So like I said you don't need to use it but if you do it’ll also be a good addition to the mask.
Ingredients:
1 tsp of Raw Honey
½ tsp of pomegranate juice
Directions:
Mix the honey and pomegranate and apply to your lips. If you want to reapply that’s okay. A tip I would recommend following is to refrigerate the honey for a few minutes before using it because if its warm it'll drip off your lips. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and then wipe it off. Try not to lick your lips because that dries them.
PS: If you have any requests for something you want me to post please tell me and I’ll make a post on it.
