How do I find my skin type?

Pay attention to how your skin feels without cleansing or moisturizer.

basic skin types

dry skin: flakes, skin feels tight or rough, dull skin

normal skin: your skin feels pretty normal, not overly dry or oily anywhere.

oily skin: your skin has a shiny look, visible pores, most likely acne prone.

combination skin: oily and dry in certain areas. People w/combo skin usually have an oily t-zone and dry or normal cheeks.

sensitive skin: your skin gets irritated to most products, prone to redness

I know there's also a napkin test you can try to figure out ur skintype. I forgot how it went but you can look it up on Google lol.

Carrier Oils

A while ago I wrote a post about essential oils and their uses for the skin and it has come to my attention that it’s my post with the most notes. It also came to my attention that some of you mentioned carrier oils are important if you use essential oils because you need to dilute them first. Carrier oils are mainly oils extracted from the nuts, seeds or kernels of plants. I researched it and I’ll give you guys a list of 5 of the best carrier oils.

“Essential oils are volatile, meaning they evaporate quickly leaving behind the concentrated potent aroma of the plant - this makes them too strong to use directly. Carrier oils don't evaporate and don't exude a strong aroma, making them the perfect companion for essential oils as they retain and carry all the medicinal properties of essential oils. Also, based on the essential oils you are using, you have full control on concentration levels by deciding the ratio of each essential oil to carrier oil.”

1. Coconut Oil: This one is the most popular one and for good reason, it’s good for your hair, nails and skin. It also has natural antioxidants and it’s antifungal.  Another good thing is that it retains a long shelf life.

2. Argan Oil: It is best known for its anti-aging properties and for hair growth or split ends. It has vitamin A and E which nourishes the skin so it’s also good for stretch marks. Also if you miss it with tea tree oil it is a good product for acne that won’t dry your skin.

3. Castor Oil: Castor oil can increase the count of a type of white blood cell in the body that can help to kill bacteria, viruses, fungus and even cancer cells. Ricinoleic acid is excellent for fighting acne as it kills bacteria that clogs pores while also moisturizing the skin at the same time.  Omega-6 fatty acids in castor oil give hair a natural glow, improve circulation in the scalp and accelerate hair growth.

4. Avocado Oil: Avocado oil contains high concentrations of oleic and linoleic fatty acids making it a potent anti-inflammatory and along with other naturally present nutrients and antioxidants as well at vitamins A, D & E, this carrier oil is ideal for irritable skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

5. Olive Oil: Olive oil is a light oil with a fruity aroma that is not overpowering so it works well for blending most essential oils. Being non-greasy you can use it for almost any skin or hair type as it does not clog skin pores or leave hair locks looking greasy. It is excellent for dandruff, frizzy hair and dry skin.
