Thunderclap One of the short listed entries for the first ever Gold Lion for Innovation, and my favourite idea at the festival so far. Thunderclap allows anyone to create a message about a cause that is relevant to them, and use the power of the masses to amplify it. Inspired by the 'human microphone' at Zuccotti Park, users can choose to 'support' a message they believe in. Once that message receives a predetermined number of followers, the message is blasted simultaneously from every supporters' social media profile. Campaigns on Thunderclap generally receive 2-3x the exposure when the same amount of people 'support' a message vs if the same number of people had simply retweeted it due to the power of social amplification from everyone communicating the same message at the same time (and this doesn't count all of the people who subsequently retweet those messages). The originator of a campaign also has the ability to reach out to their supporters (if they opt in) to reengage them for future initiatives. One campaign on Thunderclap was started on behalf of a girl in the UK with cancer to support bone Marrow donations - a bone marrow clinic in the region reported a 7x increase in donations following the campaign. Twitter originally shut ThunderClap down. After speaking with Twitter and making a few changes to the platform, not only did they regain access to the API, Twitter made them a preferred partner and invited them to present at their global sales conference. Currently in a bidding war for venture cap financing, but no current plans to sell. And it's being run by three people. Love it.
