I became very good at appearing to be someone I wasn’t.

And for a long time, nobody knew.

Looking in the Mirror

The hardest part wasn’t how I looked in the mirror.

It was knowing that this wasn’t really who I was.

The first time I felt like a woman wasn’t dramatic.

Nobody saw it.

I wasn’t wearing anything special.

I simply stopped performing for a few seconds.

YES, I TRANSITIONED TO BECOME BEAUTIFUL.

I want to look feminine.

I want to feel delicate.

I want to look at myself and feel like a doll.

And no, I don’t think that’s superficial.

After spending so much of my life disconnected from my own body, why should I apologise for wanting to enjoy it?

I want to be beautiful.

I want to be feminine.

I want to feel like a doll.

And yes. For me, that is part of transition too.

There’s one thing women my age will never forgive me for.

I didn’t have menopause.

I don’t have menopause.

And, if everything goes well, I never will.

I started my life as a woman at fifty-four.

And maybe that’s the most absurd part of this whole story:

while some women are trying to reclaim their youth,

I’m discovering mine.

Two very religious people. Two different stories. The same pattern.

One lent me money. I paid it back. Now, knowing I no longer have access to the accounts I used to make the payment, a police complaint appears through an alleged lawyer who doesn’t even seem to be known at his own firm.

The other helped me financially. Now they claim there was an agreement to repay that money — a supposed loan — and use the same alleged lawyer to report me.

And then I think:

Is this really the world I want to live in?

I don’t want your world. I want my life.

Maybe courage isn’t fearlessness.

Maybe courage is finally refusing to lie to yourself.

There comes a moment when pretending becomes more frightening than the truth.

And that moment can change everything.

I don’t want a world that needs to control how I dress, who I am, what I believe or how I live.

I don’t want a world where religion becomes an excuse for control.

I don’t want a world where laws decide which identities are acceptable.

And I don’t want people using institutions to intimidate others into submission.

I don’t want your world. I want my life.

My transition didn’t destroy my life.

The years I spent pretending did.

If your love disappears when I become myself,

maybe you didn’t love me.

Maybe you loved the version of me that made you comfortable.

I finally told my story.

I spent around 50 years hiding who I was.

I tried relationships. Family. Work. Different countries. Different versions of myself. I left Poland, lived in Shanghai, Moscow and Hong Kong, returned, got stuck, and eventually came to Spain.

But changing countries doesn’t automatically change what is happening inside you.

There was no single moment when I suddenly became myself. No magical beginning. No perfect ending.

There was a long process — and it is still happening.

This is the story of what hiding cost me, what finally made me stop abandoning myself, and why I chose to become visible.

People call it courage.

Maybe it was just exhaustion.

I ran out of ways to keep pretending.

People think transition is about changing your appearance.

It isn’t.

It’s about surviving the moment when pretending becomes impossible — and then building a life that finally feels like yours.
