Allow me to cosign but also counterpoint, as someone who is also a researcher and whose practice includes a LOT of research -

You don't have to do thesis-level research to be a proper witch. To be a witch, you literally do just have to self-identify as a witch (even if only in private) and practice something that you acknowledge as witchcraft.

HOWEVER.

Research really does help.

It doesn't have to be a LOT or super in-depth, but having some kind of practical information alongside whatever magical exploration you're doing can be incredibly useful. Whether it's knowing what plants exist in your local biome or understanding the history of the practice you've chosen or learning about the cultural framework of your favorite mythology cycle, I do recommend at least A Bit Of Light Reading.

(Also, this helps with building a bullshit detector that keeps you out of pipelines, MLM scams, and misinformation slop.)

New discoveries about old norse/viking era figurines

Emphasizing the traces of use rather than symbolic interpretation, this study challenges established typologies that have classified such objects mainly as amulets, ornaments, or mythological representations. The results indicate that figurines were active participants in the social and ritual life of the Vikings. They were made, worn or carried, sometimes broken or reconfigured, and finally placed in meaningful contexts.

The authors maintain that such objects, understood through their material histories rather than through assumptions based on texts or iconography, offer a more grounded view of how people in the Viking world interacted with the things they created.

Viking figurines show complex life histories, revealing how they were made, used, altered, and placed in ritual and burial contexts.

Community Project: A Guide to Jotnar

(The title is a work in progress)

So recently I've been heavily tossing around the idea of collection individuals experiences with various Jotnar that are involved with heathenry. This is going to be a UPG heavy project, but I want to collect the experiences of those that do interact with these entities and potentially create a website guide or maybe a book or something to show how various heathens that do have cultus with the Jotnar experience them, and maybe get people in touch with eachother to talk about it.
