I hate when people try to be some kinda funnyman in response to powerful art. Maybe you should just earnestly feel things once in a while, babe.
Oh, and adding to this…I also hate when people try to be some kinda funnyman in response to art that was earnestly done but maybe fell short of what it was trying to do or had a certain naivety to it…maybe you should just earnestly try to make things once in a while, babe.
Humor is a very common coping mechanism especially will the overwhelming amount of horrible news of negativity and tragedy we have access to now in this day and age, babe
Sure it is!
But taking someone’s art or poetry or thoughts—especially art and poetry and thoughts about their personal grief or their grief for the world in this day and age—and using it to make a glib joke is a shit thing to do! And is an emotionally immature and compassionless thing to do. That’s what this post is about. And maybe if someone feels compelled to publicly do that to someone else’s work to ‘cope’, they should instead keep their mouth shut on someone else’s expression of emotional vulnerability, and make their jokes or find their own levity elsewhere.
IM GONNA CRY SO FUCKING HARD
a win for tortured writers and haunted artists everywhere
