I'm Mary, the internet said journaling was good for your brain so here I go--
It's Friday morning, I ́m late for class, walking through the halls like it didn't matter, because it didn't– not to that clique I worked so hard to get into, but I knew I was toast the second I got home. I had to keep face, y'know. Like I wasn't another geek hiding between Carly ́s faux fur.
And then the universe decided to ruin my day, a skinny excuse for a teenage boy crashed into him, foundation smeared on his "underground" band tee, and I'm pretty sure I hit my head on him. Sheet music and a fat physics textbook slammed on the vinyl floor.
I should've walked away, scoffed, maybe even laughed. I didn't, though. Everyone just walked around us, creating a little circle they wouldn't touch or else the papers might jump out at them at
something.
I dropped down, so fast I felt my hair bounce. I started apologizing, like I was the girl I was before joining that clique. I handed him his papers without looking up. Then I did. He was a scrawny
guy, half bleached dreads with a racoon tail bleached in a dread near the front. I knew him.
I couldn't stop muttering. I was transforming into that nerdy girl again.
̈Do you know my dweeby brother? Weird haircut, thick glasses. David Roth? ̈
God, being related to him was weird. Willingly selecting band as your extracurricular sets a lifelong curse on your family. AND HE PLAYS TUBA FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!
"Oh, Chris? I know him, we both play in the marching band. We hangout sometimes. I would’ve never guessed that he’s your brother."
I saw the exact moment his brain clicked, looking down at that stain. A thick glob of pale skin tone spread across his light tee. My makeup was definitely ruined, and I hadn't even gone to first period yet.
̈Stained your white shirt… yeowch. ̈
“it’s whatever. I have more shirts. I’m surprised you’re even talking to me, let alone apologizing.”
̈Me too. ̈
Different parts of the high school hierarchy conversing like old friends catching up. This was weird, objectively, but he was just easy to talk to. Then he just walked away.

4/12/13 Entry #1, since I lost my old journal - Beau
It was Friday, the beginning of the school day. I was sitting in the band room, mindlessly tapping my drumsticks against the desk. The end-of-year march was soon, and I couldn’t even think of a proper piece. But of course, our obnoxious school bell rang
throughout the empty classroom. I packed my bag, placing each of my books inside it.
I lazily slung my bag over my shoulder, ready to finish the rest of this school day. Trying to make your way to the hallways of Little Rock was like navigating through a sea of perfume, snobby giggles, “bros” throwing footballs, and the outcasts in their corners. That’s my least favorite part of the building, to be honest. I managed to squeeze my way through the traffic of teenagers successfully. I felt someone bump into my chest, a smear of pale foundation on my band tee. Holding my comically large psych books plus my heavy book bag, I tripped back, all of my junk on the ground.
I muttered under my breath. I looked behind me as I kneeled to gather my things, seeing the popular girls snickering, walking around me, and my clutter.
I heard a soft voice mutter above me,
One of Carly’s pets stood in front of me, blabbering apologies. I didn’t expect an apology from her, not from someone of that group. “It’s fine.” I brushed it off. She helped me gather some of my stuff then she spoke, breaking the awkward silence.
“You’re in band, huh?”
“Uh, yeah. Why?” I asked,
“Do you know my dweeby brother? Weird Haircut, thick glasses, David Roth?” She said,
“Oh, David? I know him, we both play drums in the marching band. We hangout sometimes. I would’ve never guessed that he’s your brother.”
I chuckled dryly at the thought of them being siblings.
I placed everything back into my bag, getting back on my feet. I looked down to my shirt again; it had finally clicked that the stain was there.
“Stained your white shirt..yeowch.”
She drew out her words, like she was trying to keep up the mean girl facade. I snorted at her use of remarks. I shook my head as I placed my bag back over my shoulders,
“It’s whatever. I have more shirts. I’m surprised you’re even talking to me, let alone apologizing.” I shrugged.
“Me too...” I heard her mutter.
“Uh, anyway..I’m gonna get to class. We’re both late anyway. So..see ya.”
I walked off to get to psych. See ya? SEE YA? Why did I say that? It’s not like she wants to get to know me, we’re on two completely different parts of the food chain.
