REBOOTED.
Find me over here.
The taxi drew up, at one of the quieter drop-off points. “You don't mind flights, do you, Edie?” It was a struggle for David to get out of the car at all. He kept his face hidden in the lapels of his coat, far too afraid to show Edie how pale he was, exhausted already by the thought alone. It was to be a very, very long journey, both literally and in terms of psychological toll. Putting up a brave appearance for Edie was to be close to impossible.
It was almost the next morning by the time David and Edie arrived in Los Angeles. That had been a nightmare. David had never wanted Edie to see him so weak. He'd spent the journey eyes closed, wordlessly clinging to her hand. Still shaken, and still shaking, as they moved to leave the airport, he located a payphone and dialled his car. That was the most difficult day of his recent life, over and done with.

You travel here and you travel there, trying to get out from under the cloud, and nothing works, and then one day you realize you’ve been carrying the weather around with you.

David was always nervous in taxis. Too many horror stories in the news. Either the taxi companies weren't vetting their drivers nearly thoroughly enough, or the papers were making things up. The press did love to stir shit. It almost amused him, to know that half of England must think of him as a Nazi. It certainly embarrassed him when he was there in person, but, with an ocean and the most part of a continent between his home country and himself, it could only give rise to a smirk and a shake of the head.
“Don't worry about your house and your things.” Lost in thought, David could only mumble his response. Edie's New York house would be taken care of; he'd pay the rent on it, keep it managed and as tidy as it had ever been. He was dreading the flight. He hadn't brought anything with him to sedate him, or, for that matter, to do the opposite. David couldn't remember the last time he'd been anywhere near a plane. If it weren't for that driving across the country would have been such a hassle for Edie, he wouldn't be doing this at all.
