Why We Can't Have 'Miller Park' Anymore
Why We Can’t Have ‘Miller Park’ Anymore
When the renewal for naming rights to Miller Park came up, Miller Brewing was replaced by American Family Insurance. Which sucks…the Miller Brewery is just up the valley from the stadium…and well, Miller has a long. long history in Milwaukee.
And yesterday the city and Miller’s parent company, MillerCoors, announced they are closing their Colorado headquarters and that hundreds of white…

Anheuser-Busch Accuses MillerCoors of Stealing Trade Secrets
Corngate is getting more and more heated. A beer war which started as a simple PR war has turned into an intense legal battle. Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors started corngate after Bud Light released an ad. The ad implied that MillerCoors used corn syrup to make its beer. There was a lot of PR related back and forth between the two after the release of the infamous corn syrup ad. The battle turned to a legal battle after MillerCoors filed a lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch calling their ad false and requesting for the ad to be taken down. A judge ruled in favour of MillerCoors and asked Bud Light to cease suggesting that its rivals use corn syrup in their finished products.
The ruling was the last we heard of the legal battle between the two beer brands. But it was recently reported that Anheuser-Busch is filing a lawsuit accusing MillerCoors of stealing trade secrets. They are accusing their rivals of stealing the recipes to Bud Light and Michelob Ultra.
Anheuser-Busch Accuses MillerCoors of Stealing Trade Secrets
According to CNN, the beer company’s filing against its rival states that a Budweiser employee sent information to a MillerCoors employee (who is also a former staffer at Anheuser-Busch) during the Super Bowl ad timeframe. They stated that the information sent included screenshots of the recipes, which they claim that their rival’s employee asked for.
The Beer Companies Speak on the Lawsuit
Anheuser-Busch spoke about the suit they filed through a statement. In the statement they talked about how they had filed a suit. In the suit, they claim that MillerCoors violated state and federal law. The suit claims that they stole from them by misappropriating their trade secrets, including their beer recipes. The beer company talked about how they will continue to enforce its right to uncover how high up this may reach. They talked about how they take their trade secrets seriously. Anheuser-Busch will protect them to the fullest extent of the law. MillerCoors spoke to Adweek about the suit. They talked about how their rivals had lost 3 major federal ruling cases. The beer company believes that its rivals are trying to distract from the basic fact that they intentionally misled American consumers. They stated that the company respects confidential information. MillerCoors takes any contrary allegations seriously. But if the ingredients are a secret, why did they spend tens of millions of dollars telling the entire world what’s in Bud Light? And why are the ingredients printed on Bud Light’s packaging in giant letters? MillerCoors also talked about the rivals claim about corn syrup. They stated that the same residual elements are found in Bud Light and Michelob Ultra. Read the full article
Bud Light Defeated in ‘Corn Syrup’ PR War
As you know there has been an ongoing war between Bud Light and MillerCoors. The war which is known as the corn syrup war originated when Bud Light released an ad, implying that MillerCoors used corn syrup to make its beer. It went from an advertising battle to a legal battle. The war has come finally come to an end with MillerCoors emerging as the victor and Bud Light emerging as the loser
Bud Light Defeated in ‘Corn Syrup’ PR War
A US judge recently ruled against Bud Light and has ordered the beer brand to cease suggesting that its rivals use corn syrup in their finished products. This definitive judgement follows a preliminary ruling in May which banned such suggestions in its AB InBev's advertising. The current ruling has now been extended to its packaging. However, the ruling states that Bud Light is still permitted to use warehoused packs manufactured before 6 June until 2 March 2020. The issue still hasn’t been put to bed. There will be a larger trial still pending between the two unless a settlement can be reached.
Bud Light and MillerCoors Speak on the Ruling
MillerCoors chief executive Gavin Hattersley spoke about the ruling. He talked about how the ruling is another victory for MillerCoors. But, more importantly, it is another victory for the American public against deceptive advertising like Bud Lights. Hattersley explained that it's rival’s campaign was bad for the public, bad for the industry and against the law. He stated that with the ruling, they are holding their rival accountable for their actions. He also assured the public that the brand will keep holding their feet to the fire every time they intentionally mislead the American public. AB InBev seemed unrepentant after the ruling and in an attempt to put up a brave face said the following. "Bud Light is brewed with no corn syrup–plain and simple. We look forward to defending our right to inform beer drinkers of this fact at trial and on appeal.” Read the full article
On Wednesday, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against Anheuser-Busch InBev, barring them from using their "no corn syrup" labels.
