Beer Review: Avery Brewing’s White Rascal

If you haven’t experienced White Rascal from Avery Brewing in Boulder, CO, you are crazy!  Check out the great review below via 5280 Magazine in Denver.

Style: Belgian Wheat, White Ale 

ABV: 5.6 percent

Serving Type: 12-ounce can

Malty? Hoppy? Light on the hops, with plenty of citrus flavor

There’s a reason Avery Brewing‘s longtime staple, White Rascal, is seemingly on tap at every other bar in Denver: White Rascal is perhaps the king of Colorado wheat beers. Light, citrusy, and refreshing, the Rascal is a bit of liquid summer in a bottle (or can). Put it this way: It’s the brew you should be talking up after your ill-informed friend orders a Blue Moon. In fact, now that we think of it, bartenders should just start giving Blue-Moon-ordering customers a Rascal instead. 

Though this isn’t always the case with canned beers, for whatever reason, White Rascal seems to lose a step in the can. The pleasant, Belgian-y banana flavors aren’t quite as pronounced and the brew doesn’t taste as crisp as we know it is. So, do the beer justice and pour it into a glass. Or, better yet, just track it down on tap—which won’t be hard. 

Would we buy it again? Yes. Show up to any summer party with a sixer of White Rascal and you should be well received. If you’re not, you’re at the wrong party.
