the thing about buying things, and products in general I think.... capitalism especially. is its about people not things. its the meaning behind what we do, u know. the reasons we do things are important I think to. For items, its not about the items its about the people and God ultimately i think
Pregnant moms:
- don’t let anyone tell you your pelvis is too small
- don’t let anyone tell you that you have to labor in bed
- don’t let anyone tell you that if you “don’t make progress” you “have to have a c-section”
- don’t let anyone tell you that you should sit in a bath with Dreft to treat your episiotomy infection (!!!)
— A message from your friendly tumblr doula who just spent a good several hours drinking wine with moms who were treated terribly during their births
@e57ff that story was from my mom after she had me. She had told the story before, so when people were sharing their horror stories I casually mentioned it. She’s like “what, do they not do that anymore?”
No mom, they never should have said that in the first place.
She’s like “oh but it’s for babies, it’s gentle”
Mom it’s LAUNDRY DETERGENT. For babies’ CLOTHES.
people who are in the "we shouldn't treat anxiety if its caused by real events" crowd only experience the normie level of anxiety
I’m having a hard time articulating this thought but like. Those posts where celebs and influencers share “honest” “raw” photos and they’re not wearing makeup or whatever. I find the practice in an of itself kind of frustrating?
I get the point. “I’m just a regular person under the paint I have to put on every day to be taken seriously as an entertainment professional!” And like. I work in the arts. I get it.
But there’s a part of it that always reads as “look, this celeb can be ugly and gross and unfinished too” and my problem with that is that not wearing makeup doesn’t make you ugly or gross or unfinished! Not wearing makeup is literally a non action! It’s neutral! It’s just your human fucking face, and it’s fine just how it is, hands down end of fucking story.
I guess I get in our makeup obsessed culture that these “behind the scenes” bits serve a purpose, but I wish they didn’t have to, and I don’t particularly like the way they go about it.

Idk I feel like in some very big ways modern american conservatism has become incompatible or opposed to christianity.
idk I just feel like modern American conservatism and Christianity are incompatible, or at least mistaken for each other when they are very distinct from each other. I don't think modern American conservatism respects The Bible's commandments or follows them at all (or very little, sometime just accidentally/ not on purpose). which makes sense, because a lot of conservatives aren't Christian. So I'm not complaining or judging, but I've just noticed this and wanted to share. I wonder if this had anything to do with my confusion about Christianity and The Bible that I've been working through lately. This is part of the reason I don't really consider myself conservative anymore though.
This cohort study uses data from the Nurses Health Study II to assess the risk of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder among grandchildr
This is crazy.
They looked at a medication that was given to pregnant women between 1938-1971 before being banned for use during pregnancy because they found it caused problems in children and had no actual treatment value.
They’ve now found that it not only had an impact on the children of women who used it, but on their grandchildren - causing hypospadias in grandsons, “delayed menstrual regularization” in granddaughters, and according to this study, possibly higher rates of ADHD in grandchildren generally.
Diethylstilbestrol is a synthetic estrogen medication, and the authors of this study appear to be concerned that their findings raise questions about the prevalence of synthetic hormones and endocrine disrupters in our environments and how they could cause problems not only for people exposed to them, but for generations that follow.
I think tumblr just needs to work a bit on telling people about this stuff
PSA as we go into spooky season and people start using activated charcoal to make foods look spooky.
I know I just said this in the tags of that other post but mental illness is curable. The vast majority of people who are diagnosed with mental illness will be cured if they seek treatment.
There are lifelong mental illnesses—PTSD, OCD, ADHD, schizophrenia, to name a few—but they’re all manageable with CBT, medication, and proper coping skills. Even people with the more stigmatized illnesses like psychosis can live normal and fulfilled lives.
The part of you that says “I’ll always be depressed and anxious no matter how much coping I do” is diseased. The part of you that relishes posts that confirm that bias is diseased. It’s unlikely that you won’t/can’t be cured. And if you’re like me and you know—because mental health professionals have told you so—that you can’t be cured, you can be treated! Don’t give in.
Harassing people… is bad.
“But they’re a bad person!”
Okay? And what will harassing them online do? Stop being bad? Or make you feel better? You get some pleasure from harassing someone online? If so, please stay far away from me.
Same if you harass someone in public too. Thats really bad. There is never a need to harass anyone.
The official ADHD awareness ribbon is orange, but I vote that we should change it to this
