a quick compilation post of people caring about the vision as their friend, not a robot
“But, you see, it was just fate that you survived it…you had one last golden egg to give. “

behold-thevision:
As impressive as the security in the new Avengers Facility was- top of the line Stark Industries patented systems, as expected from a building owned and operated by Tony Stark-l himself- Vision was undeniably better.
It had taken approximately 48 minutes to fully integrate himself into the building’s mainframe, back when he first moved into the facility; it was a relatively short installation period in the grand scheme of things, given the complexity of the system and the sheer size of the network he was working with. After that, he had been able to access any file that passed through the facility’s servers.
Some of them peaked his interest, enough so that he filed the information on his internal hard drive for later use: Avengers field reports, old S.H.I.E.L.D data, occasionally a few Stark Industries labelled blueprints- nothing he wouldn’t expect to be there. Most files he stumbled across were irrelevant and, to be honest, rather boring, though he tried to avoid reading anything that appeared to be of a.. personal nature. That would simply be considered rude.
It wasn’t as though he was secretly sneaking around the facility network, however. He made no effort to hide himself, because he didn’t have anything to hide. J.A.R.V.I.S. could easily have reported him to Tony, if he wanted to, but aside from giving the android a few disapproving remarks on the subject, he never did. Vision could never determine why that was; maybe he preferred knowing what the other AI was accessing? Or did he simply realize that, in the long run, he couldn’t do anything to keep him out?
He was glad that he still had access to the facility network nonetheless, because collecting information seemed to be the only thing he really did these days. The android had been on lockdown ever since Hydra took control of him a year prior, and he missed going outside and flying. There was nothing keeping him in the facility, per say, but he felt that it would be better if he followed those particular orders. He knew that the government had been monitoring him closely, especially following the Superhuman Registration Act, and he didn’t want to give them an excuse to arrest him.
The only good thing about not being able to leave the building was that he didn’t have to partake in any of the arrests, unlike other registered heroes. He didn’t want to hurt anyone else, not again.

Maria Hill’s email came as a surprise when he located it, roughly 7.23 minutes after it was sent out to various individuals within the compound. The attached files were…ghastly, to say the least. Torture; The Raft was torturing its prisoners. There was a an audio file of Steve Rogers, banging around and screaming Tony’s name with absolute terror in his voice; he only made it three seconds into the recording before he stopped and wiped it completely from his hard drive. The android didn’t think he’d heard a human in so much pain before.
According to social media reports, the Iron Legion was deployed from Stark Tower at approximately the same time as Vision located the email; they never returned, and neither did Iron Man, as far as the android could tell.
There was complete radio silence at the Avengers Facility, after that. At least until Vision noticed a sudden stream of messages flooding into Tony Stark’s private message box a week after the man disappeared.
He received upwards of twenty messages in the span of five minutes, each one sounding more urgent than the last. The voice was young, and identified itself by the name 'Nova’, which Vision used to pull files from the Avengers database.
The messages seemed to be coming from the 16 year old Sam Alexander; Vision wasn’t familiar with him, but he seemed upset about some sort of ship that had been….shot down? The messages were rambling and unclear.
It wasn’t until a human sized object registered on the facility’s radar that Vision realized that Nova wasn’t just trying to contact Tony Stark, he was trying to see him in person as well. The android was hesitant to meet him, even as the young man pushed his way through the front doors and started wandering around.
He wasn’t the most…delicate when it came to human emotions. Vision didn’t know how close Nova was to Tony, nor did he really know how to tell him that the man he was looking for was likely in a prison known for torturing its inmates. There was no easy way to do this.
Vision phased through the wall and into the main foyer, rematerializing behind the young man.
“Sam Alexander. I apologize, but Mr. Stark is not here.”
Sam took a few more steps into the foyer and he couldn’t hear anyone. His helmet picked up readings of a lifeform, but before Worldmind could register a location, he heard a voice behind him.
Sam Alexander. I apologize, but Mr. Stark is not here.
Very startled, Sam yelled and turned around. He didn’t recognize the person - being? - standing before him.
“Jeez!” Sam exclaimed, taking a few steps backwards. “Don’t sneak up on people!”
His visor was automatically scanning the being. It registered as an android - part human, part robot. Worldmind noted it was the only one of its kind on Earth. It took a few seconds, but he finally identified the being as ‘Vision’.
Sam squinted. “Vision? What kind of a name is that?”
“I suppose you could ask him yourself. Also, you said that out loud, Sam.” Worldmind said.
Sam’s focus shifted from his visor to Vision and his cheeks went hot. Nothing like meeting someone new and immediately insulting them.
“Er… sorry. My…um…AI says your name is Vision. You apparently already know my name. What are you doing here? And where is Mr. Stark?”
“Jeez! Don’t sneak up on people!”
There was a slight increase in Sam Alexander's blood pressure as he jumped away from the android; a standard startle response in humans.
"I was not sneaking." Vision replied simply.
He was not moving silently, or attempting to hide his presence from the young man in any way. In fact, according to his sound level readings, the android's movements should have been easily perceptable to the human ear.
Sam Alexander was simply not paying attention to his surroundings.
Most humans behaved similarly when the android phased like this. Honestly, it was if the whole species was physically incapable of recognizing anything that wasn't passing through a doorframe.
No one seemed to understand that passing through walls was often the fastest way to travel from one point to another. And besides, Vision only phased through walls into public spaces now, like the kitchen and lounge. Areas that anyone could enter or exit at their leisure.
Private rooms were different, and subject to complex social ettiquite that he still didn't fully understand. At this point the android learned it was easier to knock and wait for whoever was on the other side to open the door, rather than enter immediately. Otherwise there was often lots of shouting, resulted in shouting, or a confusing lecture on privacy and personal space.
“Vision? What kind of a name is that?”
The android paused, tilting his head slightly. He had not stated his name, and they had never met previously, so where had he aquired his information? The Avengers database, perhaps?
A quick scan showed a complex computer system located in the young man's helmet, one with an energy signature he did not recognize.
That must have been where the messages to Tony Stark were sent from. He wondered what kind of technology it was. The android wanted to investigate it further, but there was protective shielding on the helmet that was making it difficult to access.
Vision floated closer to Nova and landed on the ground in front of him. The android towered over him.
"It is my name. I chose it." He explained. Janet had originally given him the idea, and it was what he thought best respresented himself.
Sam was embarrassed; the sudden increase in blood flow to his cheeks was making it very obvious. Vision was not entirely sure why he was, or why he was apolgizing. He had simply been curious about the name the android chosen for himself.
“Er... sorry. My...um...AI says your name is Vision. You apparently already know my name. What are you doing here? And where is Mr. Stark?”
"You have an artifical intelligence in your helmet?" He asked. For a moment, Vision may have actually looked surprised. Outside of JARVIS, he'd never met another AI before. It was...exciting, to meet another being like himself. He liked this feeling, it had been some time since he'd last felt it.
And, he assumed, it would likely be some time until he felt it again.
The android was not entirely sure how to go about explaining Tony Stark's whereabouts, so he decided to keep it as simple as possible.
"I am not sure, but based on the information I have been collecting, and Mr. Stark's somewhat inconsistent pattern of behaviour....there is a 98.7% chance that he is in prison.
The remaining 1.3% suggested that the man was dead, though that option was statistically less likely. He was far too valuable.
It was hard to tell from behind the visor, but the android knew enough about humans to know that Sam would likely be upset by this information.
"I...I am sorry. I would speak to colonel Rhodes or Ms. Potts. They would know for certain."

The government tried asking Sam to join one of their arresting teams, and he was glad to help at first. He was picking up bad guys left and right - kicking ass and taking names! He felt like a hero, and that he was really making a difference after the whole registration thing.
But then he arrested Richard, and something about that encounter didn’t sit well. He looked through most of his records, and Rich was a good dude. He helped people… and Sam put him behind bars. He didn’t even do anything wrong; Richard knew where his dad was, and Sam would have rushed out to find him in the heat of the moment.
After that, he wondered if teenagers should even register. There was something going on he didn’t quite understand, and to him that felt like he shouldn’t be forced to participate.
Eight months later he was on summer vacation. He said that he needed to “retire” to keep up with school, but he kept being pressured to return. It had been a few months since he spoke with Tony, and he had no word from him either.
During their last conversation, Sam promised Mr. Stark that he wouldn’t put the helmet on until he heard back - Tony didn’t want Sam rushing off into space half-cocked. Still, he wanted to check in with Worldmind … and he remembered the Centurion helmet sitting in his sock drawer. After all, he didn’t promise not to wear Richard’s helmet, only his own.
The helmet was much smaller than his, and folded down into what felt like cloth but hardened into metal when unfolded. The calibration for the Black Nova helmet took a few moments the first time wearing it, but Richard’s helmet reacted instantly. The first thing he saw was a distress signal being sent out to Xandar. It came from the Worldmind. Richard was sitting with someone - he didn’t recognize the face, but he HAD heard the name ‘Peter Quill’ before. Apparently he had been released recently, but their ship was gunned down before they left the atmosphere.
He quickly took off the yellow helmet and ran to his closet, where he picked up his Black Nova helmet. As he ran down the stairs, he put his own helmet on and a suit formed over his clothes. Richard’s helmet turned to cloth and he looped it on his belt.
“Worldmind, I need you to contact Mr. Stark and tell him I’m on my way to see him!” He shouted as he continued for the door: “Abuelita, I have space things, tell mom I’ll call her tonight! Bye!”
Before he could receive an answer, he was rocketing out his front door towards New York.
– –
Sam sped across the skies as fast as his rockets would take him. Worldmind kept saying that he couldn’t get through to Tony, which was incredibly worrying. After a few (dozen) pages, he at least hoped for an irritated text.
He slowed down as he flew over the New Avengers Facility. It looked emptier from the outside - he broke in only a few months ago, and there were at least a few tenants back then. But there were no cars lining the driveway, and all of the aircraft were stored away.
Sam dropped down outside the front entrance. He hesitated for a moment before pulling the door open and walking inside.
“Hello?” He called out. “Mr. Stark? Anyone?”

[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:59pm] Why?
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:00pm] Because we have both recently murdered unarmed civilians?
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:01 pm] This is true. In the past, however, I have attempted to initiate a similar conversation with limited success.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:01pm] She simply does not wish to speak of the event.
[Sent to Vision, 11:02 PM] Huh. Yeah, I guess that’s a point of similarity.
[Sent to Vision, 11:02 PM] But I was thinking she could be more receptive to the whole thing where, you know, you two love each other. It’s probably a better way to approach this.
[Sent to Vision, 11:04 PM] (You may also want to avoid hitting her with the word “murdered,” I mean, it’s upsetting and counterproductive, plus, objectively, the whole situation with her and Fandral was a tad more complicated than that.)
[Sent to Vision, 11:04 PM] (Same goes for your situation, by the way.)
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:06 pm] Murder describes the act of a human killing another human. It should not be upsetting, it is simply the definition of the word.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:07 pm] Though I suppose since I am an android, and Wanda is a mutant, we do not entirely satisfy those constraints.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:07 pm] I will use a different word. I do not wish to upset her any further, all I want is for her to come home safely.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 11:08 pm] The point still stands, however, that I cannot leave the facility without alerting the United States military of my actions. They are already doing daily scans of my data banks, I do not need them interfering with my operating system any further.

[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:53pm] What is it?
[Sent to Vision, 10:57 PM] I think it might be better if she’s found by one of us. I think we’d handle it best.
[Sent to Vision, 10:58 PM] I think, in Wanda’s case, you’d handle it best.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:59pm] Why?

[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:40pm] Perhaps.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:42pm] Though I doubt I could change her mind.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:43pm] I do not even know how to contact her.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:44pm] Perhaps that is for the best. If I cannot locate her, then I do not have to arrest her.
[Sent to Vision, 10:52 PM] Can I be very honest with you about this? It might sting a bit.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:53pm] Words cannot hurt me.
[Reply to Anthony Stark, text format. Sent 10:53pm] What is it?
