“¿Qué ves aquí?”. Varios años han pasado, pero aún escucho esa pregunta con su voz, mientras me mostraba las postales que guardaba en un pequeño cuaderno que llevaba a todos lados. No tengo recuerdo de mis respuestas, solo su risa tras mi intento de dar alguna forma lógica a esas imágenes. Algunas se quedaron en mi memoria y con el tiempo di con sus nombres. Elvis Costello - “Radio Radio” (1977): Costello’s label wanted him to play the hit “Less Than Zero” for a performance on Saturday Night Live. Costello played about 10 seconds of the song, screamed for his band to stop. He stepped to the microphone on live television and said “I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but there's no reason to do this song here." Then launched into a version of “Radio, Radio” (a sharp critique of the commercialization broadcasts of live music, and the control that record labels wield over artists). SNL producer Lorne Michaels was furious. He raised his middle finger at Costello and kept it up until the unapproved song was over. Costello was banned from he show for nearly 12 years. The ban was lifted in 1989, and SNL parodied the incident with the help of the Beastie Boys. (at Brooklyn Steel)
