pairing: go hyuntak (gotak) x fem!reader
fandom: weak hero class 2
genre: fluff, comfort, domestic, strangers to lovers (kinda)
warnings: none. just a very bad day turning into a very sweet night.
gotak wasn't the type to enjoy spending his evenings alone, he was quite a sociable person. it was important to him to have friends around with whom he could share common interests or simply sit in silence on such a peaceful evening. but today everything was going awry, because from the very morning, the day hadn't turned out the way he'd expected.
first of all, he managed to sleep through class, which was completely unlike him. gotak had always been very responsible about arriving on time, even though he didn’t enjoy studying. on top of that, there was supposed to be basketball practice tonight, but he somehow missed the coach's message in the chat saying it was canceled. and now he was sitting on the bench, staring at that damn message, and just unable to stop himself from getting annoyed.
"ah, shit... how could I miss that?” — he muttered, exhaling loudly through his nose.
he had no desire to go home in such a miserable mood. he needed to talk to somebody, so gotak chose to call baku.
after several long beeps, only an apathetic answering machine answered. great, baku isn’t picking up, and he didn’t know what could be “better” than that.
“that jerk?! how can you not pick up the fucking phone?!” — his irritation was already starting to boil over. gotak couldn’t figure out why everything had been going to hell since early morning, so he just muttered to himself that he’d be all right.
late evening was falling, the beginning of autumn, and there was complete silence surrounding him. the only sounds breaking this stillness were the sharp thud of the ball against the court and gotak’s heavy, irregular breathing.
basketball had always been his escape. When he played, his mind went entirely blank. there was no room for worries, concerns, or doubts. it was the one thing no one could take away from him.
but now even his shots weren't hitting. after a few more misses, gotak simply gave up and sat down on the floor right in the middle of the court, cross-legged. things were going terribly, so maybe he really should just stop and take a break?
tilting his head back and closing his eyes, he took a deep breath of the cool air, exhaling slowly. for a few minutes, gotak was completely cut off from the world, so at first he didn’t even realize that there was a strange noise coming from somewhere behind him.
the sky was pitch black, the only light on the square came from a couple of streetlights, and even those weren’t bright enough to make out the silhouette clearly. it definitely wasn’t a person, because the figure seemed too short for an adult, and for a child, it had unusually sharp ears. he narrowed his eyes, trying to get a better look at the nocturnal visitor.
sitting in front of him was a large dog, and to make matters worse, it wasn’t wearing a muzzle, which was a little scary. the animal was staring intently at gotak, not taking its eyes off him. the dog’s ears stood straight and stiff, like the roof of a house. gotak couldn’t figure out what to do in this situation: sit and wait for the dog to leave on its own, or run as fast as he could. although dogs usually didn’t scare him, this one looked too alert.
after a few minutes of this staring contest, the dog got up on all four paws and walked straight toward him. gotak froze. It was hard to predict what to expect from a stray dog, but judging by its confident stride, it didn’t seem like it was about to attack.
as he approached, the dog began to sniff his clothes cautiously, as if trying to recall a familiar scent. without saying a word, gotak simply watched and waited for something he couldn’t even understand himself. and then, in a matter of seconds, the dog jumped on him, but not with aggression at all, but with incredible joy, as if he had met an old friend. his tail wagged back and forth nonstop, and he barked happily to the rhythm of these movements.
“hey!” — gotak exclaimed, not even trying to hide the huge grin on his face.
as he petted the dog, it suddenly showered him with enthusiastic kisses and began eagerly licking his face.
“ha-ha-ha” — gotak laughed, ducking away from the wet nose — “Is my face covered in jam or something?”
he continued to carefully stroke the soft fur, which felt so fluffy to the touch, as if he were touching a cloud.
"what's your name, boy? or are you..." — gotak didn't finish his sentence, as he finally noticed the collar — "so you're a household dog? where are your owners?"
he reached out and touched the metal tag, turned it over, and saw the name "buddy."
“nice to meet you, buddy. i guess we should go find your ow...”
“buddy!” — a high-pitched female voice rang out from somewhere.
gotak couldn’t immediately tell which direction the sound was coming from. he stood up and began scanning the dark courtyard, looking for the source of the voice.
“buddy! there you are!” — a voice rang out right nearby.
he turned around and saw a girl standing in front of him who looked to be about his age. her hair was tied back in a hastily done ponytail, and she was wearing a warm sweater, gray sweatpants, and sneakers.
“oh, hello” — she said, a bit shyly, giving a slight nod in greeting — “sorry about him. he didn’t scare you, did he?” — she asked this in a very kind voice as the dog obediently came forward and she attached the leash to his collar.
”hey, you can’t just run off like that” — she said to the dog, wearing a serious expression — “i taught you to come back when I’m calling”
the girl continued to mutter, scolding the dog with her index finger and showing her disapproval, although buddy himself didn't seem to care at all.
“i’m so sorry about that” — she apologized, glancing awkwardly at gotak as she spoke.
“no, no, it’s fine!” — he replied hastily, waving his hands to let her know there was really no need to apologize.
gotak simply couldn’t tear his eyes away from her. she looked adorable, and it was obvious she’d been running for quite some time looking for her little buddy. her hair was a bit messy, and her cheeks were noticeably flushed from the cool autumn air and her brisk run.
there was a slight, awkward silence between them. neither of them could say a word during those few minutes as they simply stood there looking at each other. realizing just how awkward the moment was becoming, gotak decided to be the first to break the silence.
“oh, i... i... my name is hyun-tak, but you can just call me gotak” – he said, his voice not too loud, but enough for her to hear.
“nice to meet you, gotak” — the girl replied with a slight smile — “i’m y/n”
she held out her hand confidently to welcome him. it took a couple of seconds for gotak to catch his bearings and respond to the gesture. her palm was as cold as ice, which was especially noticeable compared to his hands, burning hot. as he shook her hand, he couldn’t help but notice how much smaller her hand felt compared to his own, and this made the corners of his mouth turn up in a brief smile. the difference struck him as something strange, yet somehow pleasant.
letting go of her hand, he shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other.
“your dog is cute” — gotak muttered in a tone that suggested he felt awkward even saying the word “cute” — “what breed is he?”
“a german shepherd” — y/n replied enthusiastically.
“cool” — he replied — “i mean, you don’t come across a breed like that very often, especially in a small town like ours”
“you’re right” — she agreed.
just then, buddy began nudging y/n hand insistently with the tip of his cold nose, making it abundantly clear that it was time to head home. glancing at her dog, she turned back to the guy.
“i think it’s time for us to head out. It was really nice meeting you”
she said it with such sincerity that gotak had to make an effort to hold back a foolish smile. jesus christ, in just a few minutes this girl had managed to stir up emotions in him that he’d never been able to feel for anyone before.
“yeah, it was nice meeting you too” — he replied.
y/n waved goodbye to him, then turned and headed toward the exit of the yard with her dog. she had only walked a few meters when she heard gotak’s voice calling after her.
“hey y/n!”— he called out.
the girl stopped and looked back at him.
"are you walking buddy again tomorrow?"
"yeah?" — she replied simply.
"would you mind... if i... well... joined you tomorrow?" — this time he wasn’t shouting, he asked quietly, calmly, and even a little shyly.
before answering, y/n giggled softly, and that sound made his heart beat a little faster.
“sure, gotak, buddy and i would love to have you join us” — she finally spoke.
the young man silently thanked fate that it was dark and the girl couldn't see just how red his ears had turned at that moment.
