You tried.
More than you’ve tried at anything.
You tried.
So today’s “wait, what?” question is…
One thing that always bothers me about “Face the Raven” is that the Doctor just leaves Clara’s dead body in the street and goes back into the house. That bit never sits well with me, as it seems such a very unDoctor-y thing to do. Especially as it’s Clara, of all people, and after that emotional goodbye. I was expecting him to scoop her up and am always puzzled that he didn’t.
There are only a few rationalizations that I’ve been able to come with for this one:
That the Doctor was in such a state of shock and trying to process that he simply didn’t think about it.
He was already in deep denial that it actually happened & that he was unable to stop it. By that I mean, if he didn’t accept her body, then she wasn’t really dead.
It was an oversight or something that maybe got cut for time.
It’s possible it was because PCap physically couldn’t do it with his whole bad knee situation.
yeah, that’s pretty much all I’ve got ^^^ lol
Regardless, it’s one of those little things that’s always going to grate on me because she deserved better than that.
Can you imagine what a bookend it would have been if we’d have gotten him carrying her on the beach in Mummy and then that? Oof!
There was a deleted/never filmed scene that showed him doing exactly that. (I swear I have seen scans of a script.) And someone pointed out that when he “comes back into” the house. Look behind the door he closes and I think you see an end table and a lamp. Showing he came in from another room. Supposedly where he put Clara’s body.
@roseoswiins
I found it! Thanks so much! See, this is why I post these things 😄
#see this#this is why in hell bent#when ashildr is all ‘iT wAsN’t mY fAuLt’#and he doesn’t like just MURDER her right there#like YES BITCH#it is 100 PERCENT YOUR FAULT#anyway. (via @thetimeofthetwelfth)
By the way, here’s the shot that @roseoswiins mentioned of Twelve re-entering the room from what appears to be another room, rather than from the outside…
I’ve always been curious how much of that original scene they actually filmed. It’s a real shame it was cut.

Captions
Summary: Captions is a mini-series of stories within the Subtitles universe. This mini-series covers events that are important to the story and Reader’s relationship with the Maximoffs, such as the Maximoffs helping Reader unpack or Vision teaching them to play ukulele, but did not fit into the structure of the main story, whose chapters actively follow the show’s events. While still following the general storyline of Subtitles, these short stories are written with a much looser structure and thus can be read on their own.
