”no way!” she exclaims, nodding in approval at jueun’s outfit. “if anything, you make me wish i went a little bit bolder with my outfit,” she frowns looking down at her own outfit. she’s wearing a similar outfit to jueun’s, jean shorts but paired a cropped white top instead. she’s accessorized with some silver bracelets and changed out the usual piercings in her ears for some that are a big brighter, but the colors of her outfit are far more muted in comparison to jueun. “as far as i’m concerned since it’s going to be so hot outside, we’re dressed appropriately for the occasion,” she nods again, reaffirming her stance on their outfits.

“why did your friends stop you?” she asks, raising an eyebrow. “what were you planning on wearing in the first place? i’m curious to know,” jiayi laughs, wondering how over the top jueun’s original outfit could have even been.

jueun lets out a giggle as she gets her approval from jiayi. she loves going all out for events because if she wasn't going to dress up for waterbomb, when else would she be able to wear such outfits? "we should have totally color coordinated before meeting up here! it would've been so cute if we were matching!" she exclaimed. "but you still look very adorable."

she thought back to her original outfit before shaking her head. "let's just say i would have had like ten more accessories on me right now." with that, she brushed a piece of hair from her face before taking a look around the place. "okay, it's not as packed as i imagined, but i'm guessing that's because we got here a little early. we should take photos now before too many people get here!"

"honestly, we should have," the trainee sighs, feeling more and more disappointed by the moment. "you're really making me jealous! i didn't even think to go all out." jiayi's always been an admirer of fashion rather than a trendsetter. she knows what works well for her and tends to stick to the same color palette and same styles, rarely branching out.

"well, there is one upside to dressing down for this event," her eyes roam over the crowd. "you won't get something you love, or paid a lot of money for, ruined. i know it's mostly just water, but," jiayi shakes her head. "there's always that one person who doesn't pay attention and bumps into you, spilling their drink. speaking of," she looks down at her shirt, frowning. "i don't think i thought it through either. white? let's stay away from the red slushies, okay?"

"pictures! yeah," she smiles eagerly pulling her phone from her back pocket. "selfies first? then maybe we can scope out somewhere with a cute background to take some more photos?"

waterbomb to jueun was the perfect excuse to step out of her house looking as cute as she could. sure, the subway ride to the venue consisted of some stares and whatnot but when she arrived, she knew she'd be met with hundreds of people who had the same thought as her.

"what do you think? did i overdo it?" even if jiayi thinks she did, it's not like jueun was going to change, but she wanted to make sure she wasn't completely embarrassing the other girl. she'd have to be her company for today, anyway.

honestly, jueun doesn't think she's done too much. she's dressed up like half of the crowd right now. a regular pink halter top with some jean shorts. nothing too scandalous, really! the goggles she brought have been bedazzled, yes, but it wouldn't be like jueun if she didn't. "trust me, this is my watered-down version. my friends already stopped me a little."

a hot summer’s day leaves a lot to be desired. it’s too hot to hang around outside. but with the sun out and about, you can’t just mope around indoors either. braving the hear, jiayi sets out to find the perfect summer treat.

her gps takes her to a newly open ice cream shop in homgdae. she expected a bit of a line, but not a line that’s running out the door. she sighs, taking her hand and tilting the sunglasses away from her face so she can get a better look at what’s ahead of her. she stands in like behind what looks to be the last person before tapping them on the shoulder.

“excuse me?” jiayi asks. “is this the end of the line for the ice cream shop?”

her face contorts in confusion as she realizes that the other girl knows her from somewhere. where though, is the question. workshop. a dance workshop at her studio? or maybe … oh, right!

“you’re a trainee, right?” she asks, tilting her hwad. jiayi’s a social butterfly, but often times she gets people mixed up. that’s what happens when you have too many connections, too many contacts saved under your phone as ‘girl with long hair and pretty eyes,’ instead of their real name, making meeting them again an awkward time because she can’t remember their name.

“yuji! that’s your name, isn’t it?” it takes jiayi a moment but the lightbulb finally goes off in her head. “well, it’d be awkward if it wasn’t since i just said it with such confidence. please,” she begs, looking at the other with puppy dog eyes. “tell me i’m right anyways?”

“that was the plan, but,” her face turns sour as she looks at the rack in dismay. “i swear there’s nothing here that suits me. everything is like, so last season,” jiayi sighs, turning back to face yuji.

“have you had any good luck?”

yuji nods her head in answer, smiling widening. grateful to be recognized-- and definitely saved from the potential embarrassment at being wrong. that's happened to her one too many times. "well, you're in luck, because it is yuji." the older laughs softly, smile turning bemused. "the confidence is nice! if it helps, i was almost convinced for a second i misremembered. but lady luck loves both of us today, it seems."

head tilting to the side, yuji blinks. her gaze drifts from jiayi to the racks around them, lips pursed as she analyzes the selection right in front of her. "i found a few pieces, but nothing i really felt like committing to." she admits after a moment, returning her gaze back to the other girl. "is there a particular style you're looking for?" she asks, taking a precursory glance over the other's outfit. "i could help? piecing outfits together is kind of...therapeutic for me." yuji offers. "not that you really need it. the outfit you're wearing is pretty." she tacks on the compliment at the end, smile widening.

“it’s a shame, i was really hoping that i would be able to find something,” she sighs. “but the fact that you can’t find anything either? not a good sign, right?” jiayi laughs, eyes moving from yuji to the rack of clothes.

“oh!” jiayi’s eyes widen as she smiles, nodding her head up and down excitedly. “i’d love your help! i agree, i just love putting together outfits. shopping too! i know they say you shouldn’t consider shopping a hobby,” she laughs. “but i think it’s fun to try on clothes.”

“i’m not dressed up today,” she twirls around for yuji to examine her outfit. jiayi’s wearing a more casual outfit today, leather jacket with a white t-shirt underneath. she’s wearing black low-rise jeans and red high-top converse. “but thanks!”

“i think my goal was to find some more statement pieces, i have enough basics. what do you think would look good on me?”

"probably not," yuji sighs, glancing back at the rack forlornly. "maybe i'm not looking hard enough. or i need to step out of my comofrt zone?" she shrugs, taking a sweeping glance over the selection. yuji does tend to aim for more of comfort clothes, things she knows she looks good in and can pair with things at home.

"who doesn't love playing dress up sometimes?" yuji asks, her smile widening. it helps with broadening her idea on fashion and widens her options of clothing; if someone else that has a good eye for something tells her that she looks good on it-- that's something yuji can put a pin in and come back to.

yuji tilts her head to the side. "then you just have a good sense of style, then." she says. "i like minimalism, too." yuji admits, cracking a grin paired with a flash of her teeth. at the question, the older girl hums. she takes a moment to study jiayi carefully, imagining different types of styles on her.

"you could use so many, honestly." yuji replies after a moment, her smile morphing into a frown of thought. "statement accessories can never go wrong. a purse, a hat, jewelry..." her voice trails off, glancing away to sift through the rack again.

carefully, she tugs out the sleeve of a blazer, a bizarre print on it. "maybe not...this particular one, but you could find another print that's nice or even a color theme you want to go with. you have a shine to you that gives me like...sparkles, a bit. silvers and rose gold kind of feel."

”i love playing dress up! speaking of,” she turns to the other girl with a smile. “have you heard of that new game? infinity nikki?” jiayi’s head tilts to the right as she asks yuji her question. “it’s like a dress up game but for adults? well, i’m not really sure what their target audience is, but,” she shrugs. “it’s fun! well, it’s fun if you like that kind of stuff.”

“oh, that print . . .” she cringes as she trails off. “definitely not for me!” jiayi laughs.

“you think i sparkle? really?” she beams as yuji showers her with compliments, laughing afterwards. “i think i’m more of a silver girl,” jiayi muses. her eyes drift over to the other side of the store, eyeing the accessories. “want to go look at accessories?”

”you’re right,” the dancer grins. “i’ve always been taught to focus on my expressions when dancing. it’s not like i have much formal vocal training,” jiayi shrugs, knowing that the lessons she had at her previous company were bare minimum at best. “but i don’t remember ever really being told to focus on my facial expression, just to hit the notes even if it looks ugly,” she shakes her head as she says this, laughing right after.

“honestly, sometimes you just look ugly trying to hit those high notes,” she winces. “dancing, though, i feel like you can control it a bit more,” jiayi hums.

“you want to go viral?” she questions him, teasing. “better get started on finding your signature pose then,” she laughs again.

there's an art to stage presence-- at least that's what he's learned this past year. it's not just looks, but how you command yourself on stage. the fact they make workshops about this sort of thing only tells stevie that this is something going to be drilled into them until they debut. "that's what i'm saying! it's so much easier to dance and match my expressions like that. trying to sing? how do you even...is it like vocal projection? oof." he knocks his fist against the side of his head a few times.

"damn," stevie blinks at jiayi's honesty, cracking a snort as he attempt to hide it behind his hand. she makes a point-- they always tell you to open your mouth wide. sometimes people look like they're screaming for help while hitting the nastiest high note known to man. "facts."

"viral? i mean..." stevie rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. "i dunno. i was mostly thinking like...what do they do, y'know? it goes viral for a reason. that's like, stage presence, no?" blinking, it takes him a moment to process jiayi's words. "pose? wait, like...the ending fairy stuff?" he's unable to help the bubbled laughter that leaves him at that thought.

”vocal projection,” she hums. “more like screaming? i don’t know,” jiayi lets out a laugh. “can you tell singing’s not my thing? i mean, i’m not bad at it,” she shrugs. “comes with the job, obviously. but i’m no main vocal.”

“ending fairy, yeah!” she claps her hands together, excited. “or you could come up with your own signature heart pose? who was it, oh . . .” jiayi trails off, wracking her brain for the name of the idol she was thinking of. “i’m not sure now, but the person that made this pose,” she says while mimicking the action of biting an apple into a heart. “it went viral, it’s everywhere. you could be that person!”

it's been one whole year since he signed with studio delta. over the months, generally training -- and especially workshops have gotten so much better; stevie's managing himself pretty well (self proclaimed, of course). he's been gravitating towards the ones he thinks he can get something out of it-- ones that won't be lost in the chaos that goes on in his head.

it's been a long day of training and jiayi is exhausted. she comes home, kicking her shoes off with a huff. the first thing she does is take a shower, enjoying the hot water on her skin, cleansing the day's sweat and grime away. once she's wrapped up in her robe, sitting at her vanity preparing to apply her skincare she gets her phone out and decides to order takeout.

a text notification from her sister pops up and instead of reading it she navigates to the facetime button. jiayi calls her sister, propping the phone up in the corner, knowing that her hands are going to be too busy with moisturizer and serums to text.

"why can't you just text like a normal person? i'm older than you, are you a secret boomer or something?" her sister's voice comes over the phone, sounding irritated. jiayi knows that she's only teasing, though.

immediately, the dancer pouts.

"do you think boomers use facetime?" she looks away from the mirror to check her screen. "turn your camera on! i want to see you," jiayi shakes her head, turning to face the mirror once again.

"you're too busy, you're not even looking," her sister says but jiayi can see out of the corner of her eyes that the older obliges anyways.

"yay!" she says before humming a happy tune. "what'd you text me about?"

"of course you didn't read it," her sister sighs.

"well duh," jiayi frowns. "i'm busy."

"how long has it been since you've spoken with mom and dad?" her sister asks after a beat. jiayi's smile turns to a frown and she pauses what she's doing for a moment.

"i don't know, a while," she finally says, continuing with her skincare routine. "i think the last time i heard from mom was a couple months ago. they were in new york, not sure if it was for business or vacation," jiayi shrugs, knowing that it's a toss up which one it was for.

she can hear her sister sigh and her eyes glance over at the phone just in time to see the other's face scrunch up in anger. or was it disappointment?

"i haven't even been able to tell them what i've been up to recently," jiayi confesses. "well, recently-ish," she corrects herself. "it's been a long time since we held a conversation. i try calling and texting, but," she pauses again. "i either get ghosted, voicemail, or if they do pick up i think it's because they thought it was someone else," now it's her time to frown.

"i know, it's the same with me," her sister confesses with a sigh. "what are we going to do?"

"i don't know," she says, her frown deepening.

their conversation is interrupted by a bell ringing and jiayi whips her head around to look towards the front door of her apartment.

"that must be my dinner," she tells her sister. "hold that thought! i'll be right back . . ."

she moves on to another rack, humming a tune to herself as she sifts through all the shirts. she’s not paying attention and her hand brushes up against someone else’s, someone who’s also rifling through the line of clothes. jiayi pulls back quickly, head whipping towards the other wanting to quickly apologize.

“sorry!” she exclaims, tilting her head a little to the right. her lips curl into a smile as she apologizes. “i wasn’t paying attention.”

yuji loves shopping. it's therapeutic, and even if she changes her mind and doesn't get anything-- it still feels nice to window shop. especially with the seasons changing and new styles appearing, yuji can't help herself from browsing.

she's sifting through a rack, eagle eyes glancing around for anything catching her eye. she's so focused on finding something in a lilac shade that she doesn't realize where her hand is going. when she touches someone else, yuji's hand jerks back in surprise, an apology leaving her immediately.

"it's okay, i wasn't either." she rushes to say, offering a smile as yuji glances over the girl. recognition settles, and the older girl hums, head tilting to the side. "ah. small world." she comments quietly to herself. "jiayi, right? i think we took a workshop together once," yuji glances down at the rack, moving a hanger aside carefully before she looks back up. "from secret admirer?" jiayi muses out loud after finding the card hidden in her locker at the dance studio. "isn't this kind of, like, high school?" she laughs, turning to her friend and waving the card around. "or maybe even middle school? i'm not wrong to think it's childish, right? right?" she asks, a bit of panic in her voice as she realizes her friend is looking at her like she's crazy.

it continued like this for the better part of a week, cards slipped inside her locker with a different poem each day, culminating to one friday having a bouquet of roses sat gently in front of the locker with an invitation for a dinner date. she had gotten 'oohs,' and 'ahhs,' from some of the members of her dance team. while she's always loved attention, this seemed like a bit too much. truthfully, she had the slightest concern about a stalker.

the curiosity got the best of her though, like it always does.

she arrives at the restaurant with pepper spray clutched tightly in her fist, paranoia getting the best of her. when someone sits down across from her, she's surprised to see it's someone she knows. jiayi should have known it was someone she knew, though, how else would they have gotten access to the studio!

"wow, i never would have guessed that you liked me," she laughs, shaking her head. "let's see where this date goes, shall we?"

"hey," jiayi says, approaching the stranger with a drink in her hand. it's her own, of course. she takes a sip of it through her straw, looking the other up and down. "can i buy you a drink? you look thirsty."

she's always considered herself good at flirting, but jiayi has always thought she was really good when she feels a bit tipsy. liquid courage is a real thing. at least for her it is.

the stranger accepts her offer, but who wouldn't honestly, and jiayi guides them towards the bar tugging on their hand. "i always lean towards the more fruity cocktails," she tells them before waving the bartender over. "but you should get what you like to drink, this round is on me, obviously," she winks, implying that there would perhaps, maybe, be another round in their future.

jiayi always bounces from relationship to relationship, getting bored and then finding the next thing that catches her eye. she's always exploring when it comes to love, and loves meeting new people, especially pretty people. she doesn't take it took seriously and wears her heart on her sleeve. she's never been shy about her feelings and there's no stopping her now.

"so," she turns to her new friend once they've got their drink in hand. "want to hit the dance floor? or would you rather sit down and get to know each other first," jiayi smiles, tilting her head. "though who's to say we can't do both at the same time?"

"oh, you're definitely not the worst dancer," jiayi tells her with a laugh. "you're far from it! really. i think you're stressing yourself out too much worrying about it,' she tilts her head looking at seira with a smile. "it's definitely hard to keep track of," she nods knowing that sometimes she herself struggles with remembering not just the choreography to a song but also sometimes the lyrics. "especially when it feels like you're doing ten things at once, you know?" "we can definitely go over the chorus again!" jiayi looks at seira determined. "do you think it'll help you to see me dance it by myself? i can do it slower too, if you want?"

“ah” she scratches the back of her neck “thank you jiayi, that’s nice to hear” next gen though, had surely made her feel like the worst dancer in the world. “i’ve never really been complimented at my dancing skills, so i’ve always just figured it’s my weakest skill” she shrugs, “but yeah… not the worst in the world” a small smile shows up on her lips.

“i guess i’m having trouble with how much there is to learn, and how much focus i should put into the different things” she shrugs. “should i practice my rap since that’s what i want to show off? should i practice my dance since that’s what i’m worst at?”. “i suppose i’ll have to practice it all, it’s just difficult figuring out what i should focus more and focus less on”.

she nods “i think that’ll help, you could do it twice? once slower and once at the regular speed?”.

”just because you’ve never been complimented on your skills doesn’t mean your necessarily bad,” jiayi tells the other. “i think a lot of the times the coaches only compliment the outstanding ones without realizing how much work everyone puts in. dancing is hard,” she says sternly. “and your skills are very good! better than some of the girls i used to dance with, honestly,” she laughs, knowing that everyone has to start somewhere.

“you have to practice a little bit of everything, unfortunately,” jiayi sighs knowing that being an idol isn’t about showing off just one skill in particular.

she lets out a breath of air before starting to dance the chorus, counting out each step. jiayi does it twice for seira, once a its normal speed and once slower. she’s a bit out of breath after the endeavor, but satisfied with her performance.

jiayi lets out a laugh. “so?” she asks seira with a smile. “what do you think? is it your turn now?”
