✦ . ˚ — HAN JUEUN / PROFILE & INTRO
✦ . ˚ — @eunaebe
it was interesting how everything seemed to be settling into place. slowly, piece by piece, but jueun could see the vision coming through. especially now that they were being dressed into what looked like a group outfit, jueun definitely couldn't hide her excitement.
out of everything they've done so far, the photoshoots were definitely when she felt mostly in her zone. again, she was so used to posing in front of a camera that she didn't feel the need to be nervous during such test shots.
"okay, i think we look extra cool all dressed up like this," she said with a squeal, turning over to face eunae. "we're looking more and more like a group!" stretching her arms out so one of the stylists could get her into her jacket, she couldn't hide another laugh from escaping her lips. "i can't imagine what the music will sound like if this is the concept they're building for us."
”no way!” she exclaims, nodding in approval at jueun’s outfit. “if anything, you make me wish i went a little bit bolder with my outfit,” she frowns looking down at her own outfit. she’s wearing a similar outfit to jueun’s, jean shorts but paired a cropped white top instead. she’s accessorized with some silver bracelets and changed out the usual piercings in her ears for some that are a big brighter, but the colors of her outfit are far more muted in comparison to jueun. “as far as i’m concerned since it’s going to be so hot outside, we’re dressed appropriately for the occasion,” she nods again, reaffirming her stance on their outfits.
“why did your friends stop you?” she asks, raising an eyebrow. “what were you planning on wearing in the first place? i’m curious to know,” jiayi laughs, wondering how over the top jueun’s original outfit could have even been.
jueun lets out a giggle as she gets her approval from jiayi. she loves going all out for events because if she wasn't going to dress up for waterbomb, when else would she be able to wear such outfits? "we should have totally color coordinated before meeting up here! it would've been so cute if we were matching!" she exclaimed. "but you still look very adorable."
she thought back to her original outfit before shaking her head. "let's just say i would have had like ten more accessories on me right now." with that, she brushed a piece of hair from her face before taking a look around the place. "okay, it's not as packed as i imagined, but i'm guessing that's because we got here a little early. we should take photos now before too many people get here!"
@bexria
ria nods “you’re probably right, i should wear what i like, not what other people think suits me”. there was a time where ria deeply cared what people thought of her, not so much anymore, she wore whatever she wanted to wear, did her make up and styled her hair like she wanted to. she did take in advice, when people said particularly clothes items looked good on her. “aiish, see! should’ve just gone to me rather than paying for that colour analysis” a short laugh escapes ria’s lips. “do you have white and blue clothes though? i’m assuming yes, but maybe not so much? like you said, pink and red is what you feel more for” she hums “but those colours look good on you too, i think all colours fit you actually”- ria claps, a smile on her lips “i’m happy you said that! i think so too, i do really love pastels colours, especially during summer and spring, i have a lot of pastel clothing so your choice was perfect” ria sends the other a smile. “maybe we should go out shopping together some time, seems like we know what fits the other”.
with pursed lips, jueun went through a mental image of her closet. she had pretty much every color of the rainbow in there, but she just prefers the brighter, vivid colors. "i think i have some bright blues. a lot of basic white pieces, for sure, but nothing that like really stands out! a couple of blouses."
jueun couldn't help but beam at the mention of shopping. her brother would probably tell her she needed to stop going shopping, but this had to be a sign. "yes, we totally should! you can stop me from buying everything i see, and i can tell you what i think looks fabulous on you!" she exclaims with a chuckle.
she loved styling people and while ria didn't ask for it out right, jueun decided that this was permission for her to do so in the future. "i'm like a shopping guru. once you go shopping with me, i bet you won't be able to go with anybody else!" she doesn't talk about the hours and hours she spends at the mall, afraid that it might actually scare ria away.
✦ . ˚ — @bejiayi
waterbomb to jueun was the perfect excuse to step out of her house looking as cute as she could. sure, the subway ride to the venue consisted of some stares and whatnot but when she arrived, she knew she'd be met with hundreds of people who had the same thought as her.
"what do you think? did i overdo it?" even if jiayi thinks she did, it's not like jueun was going to change, but she wanted to make sure she wasn't completely embarrassing the other girl. she'd have to be her company for today, anyway.
honestly, jueun doesn't think she's done too much. she's dressed up like half of the crowd right now. a regular pink halter top with some jean shorts. nothing too scandalous, really! the goggles she brought have been bedazzled, yes, but it wouldn't be like jueun if she didn't. "trust me, this is my watered-down version. my friends already stopped me a little."
@bexria
“it does sound kind of fun to be honest” ria nods her head “i would be curious which colours suit me, but… what if my favourite colours don’t suit me?” ria shakes her head. “then again… it would be kind of nice to be told the colours i wear don’t fit me…? i don’t know! it’s hard to pick whether i think getting a colour analysis would be good or not” ria leans back, a pout sitting on her lips. ria doesn’t have the money for that kind of thing anyway, so why get it? though she’s pretty sure her brother would pay for it if she asked. “hmm, you look great in pink but” ria stares at the other for a few seconds, humming as she does so. “i think blue suits you pretty well” she nods “and white, yeah, i think white and blue are what suits you best”. “what about me?” ria tilts her head to the side “which colours do you think would suit me?” ria taps her fingers on her thighs, curious about the other’s opinion.
"i don't think you should rely on a personal color analysis, anyway. you should rock whatever colors you want to rock!" while jueun did believe that there were certain colors that looked better on her, she would never given up on any shade of pink just because a silly analysis said it didn't suit her. again, it was all about the experience for her.
looking down at her outfit, she tried to imagine herself in the colors that ria mentioned. it's not that she didn't have clothes in such colors, but they definitely didn't fill up a majority of her closet. "really? blue and white? wow, i don't think i've ever thought of them! i've always been a pink, red and maybe even orange kind of girl," she admits with a giggle.
with a hum, she brought her hands up to create a fake camera lens to look at ria through. "well, your image screams pastels to me. don't ask why! it just does! i imagine you rocking a lilac and baby yellow color scheme!"
yuna // u-go-girl (facecam 221216) for anon
it's beginning to settle in now. fixed members of a sr media girl group. they're being bombarded with acting lessons because they're going to debut with an acting trailer. it's surreal, a bit. yuji's never once considered herself an actress, far more struggling with finding self identity than to truly an enjoy putting up a front for people. and now? now it's going to be all she knows for the next few months.
"you're used to putting on a show for people." yuji comments quietly, nodding her head. it makes sense for jueun, honestly, even if the idea had never occurred to yuji before. "that's an advantage, isn't it?" maybe jueun hasn't been a trainee for quite as long, but having prior experience, no matter what or how little it is, immediately puts her on more even ground, yuji thinks.
"were any of your pageants superhero themed, though?" the older girl asks, mouth quirking up in amusement at the thought. yuji still doesn't quite know what sr media means by superheroes, bu she is eager to find out.
this wasn't the kind of concept jueun expected sr media to put out, but she was pretty excited. she felt like it would definitely catch people's attentions. of course, it would require more preparations from them, but she was ready. the idea of an alternate identity was cool, and she could already see the hundreds of merchandise ideas they could come up with it.
"definitely not. but i do remember a girl showing up wanting to dress as spiderman and absolutely going at it with her mom," she says with a soft laugh. there were a lot of surprising moments she witnessed during her pageant days. "needless to say, i didn't see that girl starting from the next pageant. i guess her mom couldn't win." she bites back a my mom always won because jueun doesn't think that's something that needs to be said in this moment.
admittedly, she thinks something along the lines of fairies or magical beings would've been more up her alley, but superheroes were still cool. she was a noob when it came to the whole concept, however, so she probably would need some extra coaching on that. "i don't think i've watched enough superhero movies though. i'm not sure how to act like one."
✦ . ˚ — @beyuji
with the acting lessons that jueun had been getting at sr media, she was pretty confident that she wasn't terrible. after all, a lot of performers were, in fact, actors to an extent. they had to put on a performance, and that involved making sure that they were acting to whatever stage they were standing on.
jueun thinks that's what the company is trying to emphasize as well with this workshop. the fact that they had to perform, and that involved so much more than just singing and dancing. of course, those were the basics, but people were always looking for more when it came to idols.
"i feel like me having been a pageant kid kind of helps with this stuff," she admits to yuji. admittedly, jueun used to have a hard time speaking of her past because of all the bad memories that came with it. however, she was starting to feel thankful for that experience now as it definitely helped her out. "i think it helps me perform things on stage," she explained.
@bexria
ria loves hearing people complain, there’s something so interesting about it, and ria can’t stop listening once a friend opens their mouth to complain. ria listens as the other speaks, nodding her head in agreement. ria had never gotten a colour analysis before and she wasn’t intending on ever getting one, what if they told her that her favourite colour didn’t suit her? “i think when it comes to places like that, if you want to get a colour analysis you should go somewhere a friend would recommend, not somewhere you saw on instagram” ria shakes her head a bit. “the instagram accounts are way too good at tricking you to come just to give you terrible service” she shrugs. “i don’t think you need another one, but you can go if you want to” she hums “in the end, it might just be better to ask friends what kind of colours look good on you”.
jueun can't help but pout a little because everything ria says is correct. she really should've gone to a place recommended by someone she could trust rather than going off of reviews left by random (possibly paid) people on instagram.
"it's all about that experience, though. like getting to see your face change colors when they lift up a fabric to your face! the result may have been phony, but it was kind of fun," she admits with a shake of her own head. "whatever. i think i'll just wear whatever i want to wear and put on whatever makeup i want to put on! who needs a color analysis, right?"
initially, jueun went out of curiosity, but now she was just a little annoyed because she felt like she was almost scammed. "in that case, what colors do you think look good on me? i'm such a pink girlie, but i'm always afraid someone might think the color doesn't look good on me!"
"it looks good," stevie compliments, humming as he eyes her food before returning to his own. kicking his feet, excited at the prospect of eating with company on top of catching up with jueun, he's in good spirits. not that stevie isn't good spirits most of the time. "salad can be good." even if stevie decides to drench his in dressing in protein-- but salad is versatile. "pasta makes it even better. my mom makes a mean pasta salad." he sighs thinking about it.
"uh," stevie blinks, pulling out food that jindallae had made for him. he makes through the motion of mentioning that his boyfriend made it, but hesitates; probably not information he wants being around in the company, when dating is such a complicated and controversial thing in the industry. "y...yeah, i did. just some leftovers from dinner when i got home." he goes for instead, bouncing in his seat as he pulls out his food.
"you got a busy day planned?" stevie asks in lieu of conversation, glancing at jueun with a bright smile. "well, obviously, uh. we're here-- but anything fun in mind?" when you do the same thing day in day out, stevie has to look at the brighter side of things. the fun little moments he can find in between. "i've been trying to learn a new instrument each week, so i think i might look at some options today."
"ouch, are you rubbing it in my face? my mom can't cook even if her life depended on it." truthfully, it's rare to hear jueun speak of her mother. it's not like they had a great relationship, but there's something about stevie that allows her to let loose. slipping in a few words here and there couldn't hurt, right?
digging through her salad, she gave him a slight shrug. "i was going to work on my dancing a little bit more, but i'm not even sure if i'm getting anywhere on my own. like is there a point in practicing when i don't know if i'm doing it properly?" this is a dilemma she's had for a while. she knows the extra hours of practice can't harm her, but jueun's not entirely sure if it's very helpful either.
"a new instrument a week? wow, that's... ambitious?" she says rather honestly before letting out a chuckle. "what was your instrument for last week?" knowing stevie, she thinks it'll be one she couldn't imagine. "violin? drums? piccolo?"
✦ . ˚ — PROJECT NOVUS 003: INTERVIEW. aka jueun sits down with sukyung to talk about her performance.
why did you and your partner choose this song?
"when nayoung and i were discussing songs, we went through quite a long list, actually. ultimately, i think we wanted a song that could showcase our strengths yet not look too awkward when performed by two people. we went back and forth between a couple of nina tracks and wonderland tracks but felt that many of nina's performances really came complete with the use of backdancers, so we eventually decided on easy by wonderland. it had all the aspects we wanted to showcase and also looked nice as a duet."
how was working with your partner?
"i've always known that nayoung was very serious and a hard worker, and i think she really pushed me to work even harder," jueun states with a soft chuckle. "admittedly, i would focus on trying to have fun with everything, but nayoung really helped me get into that almost idol mentality. a little tough love, sure, but it's what i needed and definitely what a group would need."
did you agree with the chosen performance?
"of course! easy's also pretty different from what i've shown through next gen, so it was a nice challenge. i also wanted to show everybody that i could pull off this kind of concept, so i think it was a nice choice for us."
do you think you can work with your partner long-term?
"absolutely. like i mentioned, i do believe that we could all use a nayoung in our lives. she knows exactly when to get down to business and makes sure that everything runs smoothly like a well-oiled machine. i think we can both benefit from one another if we continue to work together!"
why did you and your partner focus on a particular skill?
"nayoung mentioned that she wanted to rap, and i also wanted to show off my skills in a different manner than i've showcased so far. i think people have this perspective of me being a little preppier and whatnot with the song choices i made on next gen, so i personally wanted to show that i could pull off numerous concepts. i think that's what made easy a great choice. it had a little bit of everything that we wanted to show."
✦ . ˚ — PROJECT NOVUS 003 aka jueun performs easy by wonderland with nayoung.
after much discussion, jueun and nayoung decided to perform easy by wonderland. taking a song and turning it into a performance that fits well for two people was more difficult than she imagined, which is why easy seemed like a fitting choice.
if they had chosen a wonderland song performed by the whole group, it may look empty compared to the original because of the number of members the group had. however, this was originally only performed by four people, making splitting up parts and rearranging the performance to fit a duet a little more swifter.
as they discussed, nayoung took on most of the rap parts as that was jueun's weakest skill and something her partner was much more talented in while the other parts were divided up quite equally. the song's mood was a bit different from what jueun would have usually performed—her whole next gen audition being pretty girl should've been proof of that—but that's why jueun liked it so much. it would be a great moment to show the trainers and executives that she was capable of performing something like this as well.
the styling was something that jueun put a lot of focus into. the sleek and chic vibe of the song immediately put ideas into her head. seeing that they had to use their own clothing for the whole performance, there was a pretty hard limit on how good they could look, but jueun was determined to make sure they looked dashing.
going for a suited look may seem obvious, so jueun decided to add in their own touches by accessorizing their outfits. she added a feminine touch to her own by putting on some silver accessories. rings, earrings and whatnot but nothing too flashy. they weren't supposed to look overly extravagant for this song. she also opted for a cropped suit jacket rather than going for something too traditional.
their makeup was also a little smokier than usual, something that may seem out of touch with what's trending these days, but it seemed perfectly fitting for this song. and the lips. the lips had to be bold.
the performance itself seems to wrap up in a blink of an eye. with the amount of practice they've put into it, jueun thinks that nayoung and herself have shown what they're capable of. this may be a different side than she's shown through next gen and her performances as a trainee so far, but she's proud of the choice they've made. jueun thinks they've really shown what it means to work as a team with this project, and it only makes her more excited for what's to come.
"i remember," nayoung replies with a single nod. she doesn't remember much else about the performance – just that jueun did rap. the fact that she can't remember it is probably evidence enough that nayoung should handle the rapping. raps should always be impactful and memorable, especially in an era where girl group rappers are becoming less common.
she can't help but recall her own history rapping, though. back when she was fairly new to it, on the very first survival show she participated in, they assigned a song with a difficult rap to her. she was eliminated afterwards, and always wondered if the producers set her up to fail. surely they knew she wasn't equipped to succeed in that situation.
since then, she's had a love-hate relationship with rapping. for a long time, part of her never wanted to do it again. another part of her wanted to practice hard, improve, and prove to everyone that she could succeed as a rapper. ultimately, the latter has won out more often than not. it's especially true now, after being assigned a significant amount of rap parts at the christmas concert, and realizing she's a much better rapper than any of the other project novus girls. someone has to do it, so it should be her.
"i think i would like a song where i can rap," she decides. "i haven't listened to nina in a long time, actually. i can't remember any of their rap parts. i know wonderland has some good ones, though." she's open to either, really. she just wants to make sure the concept suits both of them. ideally, they'll both be happy with the choice, too.
while auditioning for next gen sort of happened on a whim, jueun's glad that she decided to do so. it gave her a chance to stand on stage again without having to worry about her mother, and it also gave her a good idea of where she stood when it came to her skills.
"a song with a rap. then,, yeah, i think wonderland might be a better choice. i feel like their songs are heavier when it comes to rap," she stated before scrolling through a list of wonderland songs. she couldn't recall all of them from the top of her head but seeing the titles did bring the melodies back into her mind.
"what do you think of this one?" leaning over just a bit, she turned on unnatural from wonderland, gently humming along to the song. it was one of wonderland's more recent releases, and jueun thinks that the song is mature enough for nayoung yet magic-sounding enough for her own preference.
the choreography wasn't too bad, either, of course. but she wasn't sure if this was the one. "it's just a suggestion, of course. wonderland has so many members, and i don't know how well that'll translate to a duet, if you know what i mean." she voiced her concern with a purse of her lips before stealing a glance at nayoung, curious about what she may be thinking.
sr media is really harping on the teamwork. she knows the hard to get along with comment during their mission assignment was directed at her, and that jueun is primarily paired with her to try to get her to warm up. nayoung honestly disagrees. she's easy enough to get along with, in her opinion. hard to befriend, yes, but those two things are different, aren't they?
nevertheless, she and jueun are tasked to prepare a performance together. when it comes time to perfect a performance, nayoung is a team player. whoever she's performing with needs to be successful, or else it reflects badly on her as well. in this way, it's easy to work together and be a good partner. sure, maybe not friends, but it's better than nothing, isn't it? and who knows – maybe jueun will crack nayoung's shell. it's not like she's opposed to it. it's just difficult for her – harder than anything she's ever done as a trainee, maybe.
when it comes to song selection and showing off their strengths, it requires careful thought. nayoung's primary strength is that she can do just about anything, and from what she knows of jueun, she's similar, though maybe not as rap-inclined. "i think what sets us apart is our ability to execute just about anything well," she replies. is it arrogant? maybe, but as far as she's concerned, it's true enough. "so i think we should show that off, and sing, dance, and rap. i know you aren't the strongest at rapping, though, so you can leave that to me if you'd like."
nayoung takes out her phone to search up their senior artists' songs as the ideas come to her. her first thought is to choose something by a soloist, because it will require less adaptations to the choreography. she quickly searches up bicycle by goeun, remembering the rap in the second verse. she plays the video on mute, focusing on the choreography, and quickly realizes backup dancers play a key role in the performance. "i was thinking a soloist's song might work because we'll have to adapt the choreography less, but i think the backup dancers are so involved that performing without them will reduce the impact a lot," she voices her thoughts. that's that out the window, then.
there was always something a little intimidating about nayoung. maybe it's because she's been a trainee for longer and just seems more talented than jueun, but she appeared to be unapproachable. however, since this project began, jueun's taken it upon herself to look at everybody with a clean slate. they were being seen as potential teammates, after all. plus, there's always the chance that she may have been reading nayoung incorrectly.
"yeah, rapping definitely wasn't my forte, though i had to do it once on next gen," she admitted with a chuckle. jueun's had to do almost everything on next gen, but she's thankful looking back at it now. that experience had really helped her realize where her strengths and weaknesses were at.
listening to nayoung's idea, she tried to recall who the soloists under sr media were. goeun was, of course, probably the most prominent, but jueun always thought the performances of soloists shined as much because of everybody they worked with. could they pull off that same stage with just the two of them?
"i agree. i think it'd be more of an advantage if we went with a group song and turned it into a duet instead. soloists tend to do a lot with their backup dancers, and i don't think it'd look as good with just the two of us." with that, she picked up her phone to do a bit of searching on her own. "what about a nina or wonderland song?" she began humming along to a few nina songs that popped up in her head, hoping that one sticks.
runners.
< w. @jueunbe >
stevie makes a beeline for jueun when he comes across her in axis. it feels like it's been months. there's already a wide grin crossing his face as he bounds his way to her, sliding into the seat across from her with a little more energy than the average person. "jueun! hey-- oof," he cuts himself off with a grimace, hitting his elbow on the table in his haste to get there. he bounces back, stevie's smile coming back on his face in less time than it took to disappear. "ouch. got excited. where ya been?"
he gathers his lunch out, taking a curious glance at her own. "oh! that looks good," stevie nods towards her food, glancing away to fiddle with his own lunch. his stomach is grumbling, already ready to have a mini feast before he succumbs back to the training regimen. "did you bring that today or is that what they're serving?" he blinks in curiousity. he had brought his own today, but stevie likes having options in the future.
admittedly, jueun's gotten a bit busier these past few months. it was no surprise with what's been going on, and she loved finally having things to look forward to. however, she also missed some of her other trainee friends. so, she can't help the smile when she happens to bump into stevie in the middle of what she's considering a mini lunch break.
she gives him a smile before slowly shaking her head. "i just bought it at one of the cafes nearby. i wanted something a little light today," she said before digging her fork through the salad. while it was a salad, it still had everything that she enjoyed, and it was going to be enough until dinner, at least.
"i made sure to add some pasta, though. i love salads on their own, but i think they get upgraded when some pasta's added," she explains with a chuckle. "did you pack your own lunch today?"
