Do you still love me?
For the next five questions my muse can not tell a lie.
“…? I’m still here with you, aren’t I?”
He lifts a hand to ruffle Ludger’s hair, bemusement giving way to a smile. It feels like it’s been forever since he’s done this, but…–
“’Course I do. You know me–I’m not the type of person that would keep up false pretenses when it comes to people I care about.
“And in this world, there’s no one I care about more than I do you. Alright?”
... He slept a lot longer than he’d planned on.
☆ | Anything to distract herself. Kazuya sure knows her well, doesn’t he? And it just had to happen when she decides to pay him a little visit. It’s dark, but her eyes slowly adjust to the blackness of the room, her vision making it quite clear, even if it isn’t as bright as day. Yuzu sighs, and she has a weak smile on her face.
“Okay.” With a nod, she faces up the ceiling, head rested on the pillow. Yuzu sighs. How long has it been since she’s stayed over like this before? Far too long to remember.
It’s better than keeping silent for a long time, even if she can’t sleep right away. “…I was just remembering things. You know, about that week…it seems so long ago, but I can’t help but think that it was just last week, or something like that. Heh…how stupid of me, right?” Thinking about the Lockdown, because the memories creep in her mind–it’s scary. No matter how hard she tried to live a normal life, Yuzu sometimes wanted to forget about that calamity of an ordeal.
Ah... So this is going to be the topic of the night. Kazuya can’t say he didn’t expect it--rather, a large part of him did. It’s absolutely natural that she’d want to talk out her anxieties regarding that hellish week, after all, and it’s probably healthiest for her too. Indeed, he knows by experience the repercussions of keeping such things to himself; and in hindsight, he’s glad she hasn’t had to learn the lesson he did. Yuzu...doesn’t deserve to suffer by herself.
It’s with that in mind that Kazuya shakes his head, then rolls onto his side to better regard her.
“... It isn’t stupid. I sometimes feel that way too.” He answers, and offers her a small smile. “Other times, I feel like maybe it didn’t happen at all--that it was just a nightmare, you know? But then...”
Then...well. He has only to look in a mirror to realize that it wasn’t.
“... Listen. You went through more in that one week than anyone should have to over the course of their entire lives. Everything we saw...it’s not really the kind of thing that you can shake off in a few months.
“So try not to push yourself too hard, alright? And don’t tell yourself you should be over it by now. It’s going to take some time...for both of us.”
☆ | “…” It keeps coming back to her. Although the days were put in its paste, it still eats her inside. ‘It’s all behind us’, they say. ‘Nothing like that would ever happen again’. If that’s the case, then why does Yuzu feel this uneasy? His voice snapped her out from her thoughts, and she grips the blanket tightly. Her red eyes were still open, and she didn’t drift off one bit. She breaks the silence, her bangs slowly falling to one side of her face.
“…Y-Yeah,” Yuzu answers, softly. “…I can’t sleep.”
Can’t sleep, huh...? He understands the feeling all too well, even if the cause behind his inability to drift off might be a bit different. He knows what it’s like to lie awake, too distracted and too afraid to close his eyes for fear of what he might see--what feelings of dread might carry over into his dreams.
So he turns to a practice he’s adopted more and more as of late, on nights Naoya stays up especially late.
“... Do you want to talk for a little while? It can be about anything you want--what you did over the weekend, what’s been happening at school...whatever comes to mind.”
He didn’t regret his choice. It had never been the most appealing, then or now, but...it was the right one, he was sure. For the sake of his loved ones...of humanity...and even for his own sake...he’d done what he needed to do.
...
...
Even so...he couldn’t help but wonder on occasion...--

I hate when people say “survivor”.
Because “Survivor” means that you made it out
And I dont think all of me did.
“To the north?” Richard queried, a spark of curiosity in his gaze. He knew of many small mining and forest communities, as king he considered it his duty to se to all of them and thus the words spoken almost rang as a challenge in his ears. The monarch quite doubted that there was a community within his borders whose name that he could not at least recognize the name of, and if there was it was something he need remedy. He could hardly be a suitable king if he did not know the kingdom he ruled. “I’m actually quite familiar with many of the smaller communities, so I must say I’m quite curious if I know of your hometown.”
Amidst his conversation with the other, Richard continued to walk through the Amarcian ruins his mind mapping the path back that he had carefully noted along the way in. The structure and layout was not unlike the Gustwork or Wallbridge ruins, though quite different than those he had seen in Strahta or Fendel. He couldn’t deny that the regional differences intrigued him; a question for Pascal later perhaps. For now his focus was helping the lost traveller. Richard hoped he hadn’t been lost down here for terribly long, they were fortunate that the monsters here seemed relatively sparse and thus far none of the nova variety.
The growling of the other’s stomach put a faint chuckle upon the monarch’s lips. He had not given food any though until that moment, but Richard was quickly reminded that he had failed to have anything to eat prior to leaving the capital. A poor decision on his part, but he had been concerned about the potential danger of the ruins and had left as soon as he able. He was glad to have done so, the thought of having missed the traveller, that they might have been lost down here much longer did not sit especially well with him.
“If you are hungry I do believe the knights ought to have something to tide you over, at least until the capital. If that is where you are headed,” Richard offered. “I doubt it is much as we aren’t terribly far from Barona, but I don’t doubt they would gladly offer it.”
“I’d suggest stopping there to resupply before returning to your exploration. It sounds as though you could use some food at the very least,” Richard chuckled. “If you’re not familiar with the area, I can show you about. I’m told the city not especially easy to navigate if one not familiar with it.”
... More questions. This man was so full of questions, wasn’t he? Perhaps if Kazuya had had the time and resources to learn more about this world he wouldn’t have minded as much, but if this man was as familiar with this world’s geography and settlements as he claimed, it would make continuing the lie more than a little difficult. Fake village names required at least some knowledge on the country’s methods of naming, after all--knowledge that Kazuya had none of.
... It was a mildly embarrassing and terrible way of throwing people off (especially amicable folk like this man), but if he wanted to cut this interrogation short--
“Haha... You sure want to know a lot, don’t you? Back home, people would think you were hitting on me--especially after offering to show me around like that.”
--then accusations of flirting usually did the job. They were almost always out of left field and a bit of a mean way to punish curiosity, but if that was what it took, he’d absolutely utilize them...!
“Heheh... Anyway, that won’t be necessary. I usually have a pretty good sense of direction.” Such a statement probably didn’t inspire much confidence considering he’d claimed to be lost just a little while before, but hopefully this man wasn’t terribly persistent. “--...and I’m used to finding things on my own. No need to worry about me after we’re out of here.”
A pause. Then--
“... Probably can’t be too far now.”
Anddd he was gone. Before Hibiki had been able to respond, the man he knew as the Anguished One had vanished.
What had that all been about? Hibiki couldn’t say their talk about there being no past or future made much sense to him and the Anguished One hadn’t given him the opportunity to ask any questions. Like always, he now had more questions than he had had before meeting the man. Excellent.
Scratching the back of his head, Hibiki shot one more glance at the spot the Anguished One had vanished and thought of rejoining his group. Upon turning on his heel, Hibiki momentarily froze when his eyes met someone’s piercing gaze.
“Oh… It’s you again,” Hibiki said, exhaling the breath he didn’t know he had been holding. “I hadn’t noticed your presence. You should have said something.”
Hibiki knew this person. They had met a few times before. Usually their conversation would be rather short and one-sided. Just like the Anguished One, this person would speak in riddles and then vanish. Hibiki had yet to catch this persons name, but he knew this wasn’t a bad person. He had been trying to help him all this time, after all.
“What’s cooking good looking?”
... It was almost amazing how calm this boy could be despite the disasters surrounding him--unsurprised by his sudden appearances, patient...hell, he was even calm enough to make jokes. Given the situation, it was a disposition most others he’d seen couldn’t manage or keep up...but then, he supposed that was why this person held the position of de facto leader within his group--
“Mellow as ever, huh?”
--and why Kazuya was here talking to him in the first place.
The teen couldn’t help the slight smile that tugged at the corners of his lips when Hibiki addressed him--ha, no matter how much time passed, corny pick-ups still seemed to get him--but it vanished almost as quickly as it had come. Kazuya hadn’t appeared before Hibiki for a happy reason, after all...and though he had resolved to cease mere observation of this world, it was probably still best if he didn’t interfere with its residents too much. Quick hints and short pieces of advice--that was the extent of what he permitted himself to give this world. This was their battle...not his.
“... I’m sure you have an idea of why I’m here.” He finally said, expression turning serious as he regarded the boy opposite him. “You’re probably still a little confused by what that...man, told you...but I have some more advice for you.”
[/Sloooooowly slips Kazuya some cake he made with some animal blood; he's learned not to use his own. It took a couple years] ; w; S-Sorry for the late cake, Kazuya. I'll make you a very nice gift; I h-hope it's fine if it's late!
“What–? … Oh.”
It seems Ludger’s as reliable as ever when it comes to remembering occasions such as birthdays--more reliable than even Kazuya himself, it would appear--and though he wouldn’t have minded the occasion passing without incident...Kazuya’d be lying if he said this didn’t make him the least bit happy.
...
... Haha. It was such a trivial thing, and yet...--
“... Thanks, Ludger, for remembering. I’d nearly forgotten about it myself.”
... Oh. Now that he thinks about it, he forgot about his own birthday, didn’t he?
Well, it’s no big deal. He’s been a bit too busy to do anything to celebrate it properly, anyway.

ALL RIGHTY SO!! although i have a few things in my drafts that i’m still in the process of replying to, i’ve been craving some plottier/more action-oriented threads along with them. whether it’s something set in a sort of canonverse of some kind or a complete au, i’m all about it!!
i’m not sure i’m the best at fight threads, but i’d love to take this as an opportunity to practice and improve. uvu my only real condition (outside those already outlined on my rules page) is that we discuss character powers and figure out a general idea of how any battles may pan out beforehand. my view is that, if we go in blind instead of having a loose plan, we’re probs more at risk for accidental godmodding and the like--especially if one or both of us are using very OP characters...!!
with all that being said, please like this post or drop me a message if you wanna try a thing w/ Kazuya here...!! i’m not sure i can promise speedy replies (even more so w/ classes starting up), but let’s enjoy ourselves~

Some people are just born to fight, I think. It’s not that they’re born brave. It’s not that they’re born strong. It’s just that the universe has decided that this one, this one will have grit and fire and steel in their blood. And it’ll be tested, this cosmic mettle of theirs. They’ll face trial after trial, be broken and damaged in countless ways. But this one was born to fight. Maybe it’s not the life they would have chosen. Maybe they’d love to lay down their arms. But they were born to fight. It’s what they know. It’s what they do best. It’s all they can do.
