There’s a rush to his step as Mikleo made his way towards the Galahad Ruins, Lailah’s paper crane in his hand. He’s already ventured through the aqueducts as thoroughly as he could up until the locked door forced him to return outside, overhearing the conversation that Sorey and the others had. Recalling that only made his frown deepen and his pace picked up further to ensure that he didn’t fall behind from the group yet remain keeping his distance to not be found out (since of course he wouldn’t stay resting at the inn, it wouldn’t be him at all to accept that he couldn’t do anything; Sorey spoke of dreams but he’s overlooking one important fact).
Engrossed in his thoughts, sensing hyouma enough to keep his awareness up to avoid them, the water seraph however didn’t plan for a being to speak to him suddenly. A human being.
Pausing, Mikleo’s surprise must have been palpable from his expression alone, which he remedied by returning to an air of coolness. Refraining from answering at first, he studied the other; the first ever human who could see him, not counting Sorey because they had grown up together and the brunet always had that ability; and obviously one for hire going by the raven’s statement of helping ‘for a small price’ and lack of selling ware around. He gained a few positive points for giving his name away at least, but only that, as what the water seraph had read about these type of people is that they always go to the highest bidder.
“I have no gald to offer you,” Mikleo replied, avoiding the previous statements the other made since there’s is an important matter but he’s not about to give away the details on that to a stranger. “I do wonder, do you often greet people like that?”
It is slightly curious, but he supposes it’s what anyone who sells anything does, and on one hand would rather leave it at this and rush to cover the time he’s lost. On the other hand, standing right in front of Mikleo is someone who could see seraphim and didn’t realize it. He’s not about to let the chance to show Sorey. “But anyway,” Mikleo began, “I don’t have any gald on me at the moment but I believe I will shortly. I had been heading towards the Galahad Ruins, if you’d like to join me as the matter is urgent. I can however offer you one thing right now and that is my name. It’s Mikleo.”
Hibiki blinked as the other made a face at him. Had he taken him by surprise? Or was he in need of taking a shower that badly? (If so... Hibiki hadn’t noticed.) Either way, Hibiki offered the stranger a polity smile.
“That would be my catchphrase, yes. Although I usually only use it around people who seem to be in need of help,” Hibiki explained, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. “And that’s OK.”
The other didn’t seem to be carrying much with him, so Hibiki couldn’t say he had expected him to take his offer. Nonetheless had he seemed like someone in need of help, so Hibiki had taken his chance.
Just as Hibiki was about to say the stranger should find him in Ladylake if he were to change his mind, he was presented with a proposal.
“Galhad Ruins...” Hibiki mumbled, considering his choices. “Hm, sure. Sounds fun~ Lead the way, Mikleo.”
There was a frown on Hibiki’s face as he counted the Gald pieces in the palm of his hand. There... wasn’t all that much counting to do. Wanting to see more of the world he had left home one day and set out on a journey. While he had chosen this life, being a lone wandering traveler wasn’t always easy.
Hibiki shook his head as he put his Gald pieces back into his pouch. No time to worry, he had to get a move on. According to his map he was nearing a town by the name of Ladylake. Surely he would be able to make some money there.
Offering his services to anyone in need of a helping hand and making just enough money to continue his journey was his life now. He couldn’t complain. This is was the great journey he had dreamed of since he had been little, although the roads had gotten more dangerous as of late. Perhaps he would settle in Ladylake for a while. He sure was excited to try the local cuisine at least!
At the thought of food his good mood returned. Spending his last Gald pieces on a proper warm meal before going job hunting sounded like a great idea. As he thought of this, his gaze fell on a figure in the distance. Someone was out there in the fields just like him. Or... was there? Hibiki wasn’t sure what he was seeing.
As Hibiki approached the figure he became more certain that had to be another person. He got closer and closer until he was about to pass the stranger. Being in high spirits, Hibiki decided to stop and greet the other.
“Good day,” Hibiki beamed, flashing his brightest smile as he took a moment to look the stranger over. “You seem like a fellow in need. Did something happened? If it’s anything I could help with I would be happy to... for a small price. Hibiki Kuze at your service!”

… It was almost amazing how calm this boy could be despite the disasters surrounding him–unsurprised by his sudden appearances, patient…hell, he was even calm enough to make jokes. Given the situation, it was a disposition most others he’d seen couldn’t manage or keep up…but then, he supposed that was why this person held the position of de facto leader within his group–
“Mellow as ever, huh?”
–and why Kazuya was here talking to him in the first place.
The teen couldn’t help the slight smile that tugged at the corners of his lips when Hibiki addressed him–ha, no matter how much time passed, corny pick-ups still seemed to get him–but it vanished almost as quickly as it had come. Kazuya hadn’t appeared before Hibiki for a happy reason, after all…and though he had resolved to cease mere observation of this world, it was probably still best if he didn’t interfere with its residents too much. Quick hints and short pieces of advice–that was the extent of what he permitted himself to give this world. This was their battle…not his.
“… I’m sure you have an idea of why I’m here.” He finally said, expression turning serious as he regarded the boy opposite him. “You’re probably still a little confused by what that…man, told you…but I have some more advice for you.”
Hibiki studied the other’s face carefully for no other reason than that he could. While he couldn’t tell what the other was thinking, he could tell there was a lot on his mind. Daichi, Io and the others... he had seen all of them making the same face before. Whatever was on the other’s mind, it fitted right into the despair that the Septentrione invasion had brought onto Japan.
“Confused? I sure am, but I don’t usually sweat the small stuff... or the possibly big stuff?” Hibiki shrugged and half-smiled as he said it. “I like to take things one step at a time, even now that the world has gone to shit. But anyway, you said something about advice? I’m all ears.”
Hibiki mentally prepared himself for whatever too smart nonsense the other was going to sprout. Only too late he realized he would have liked to ask for the other’s name before he would go on and give him has advice. The other had the tendency to magically disappear right after to have shared some of his knowledge. Hibiki had yet to ask him for his name!
Well, no matter. Hibiki had dubbed the other ‘Catty’ anyway, albeit only inside his own head.

✵ NOT IN OUR STARS.
Right at the crack of dawn, Alcor had awoken to stealthily escape from the chains that bound him to his father, Polaris, the King of the realm—the Palace. He was going to meet with a commoner, a simple messenger boy no less, at the center of the town, near the fountain. Alcor had only recently learned of it’s existence due to the aid of one such messenger, and had been in awe at the simplicities of wonder the town held so well hidden. They were like microscopic miracles ; as breath-taking and awe-provoking as a small-scale supernova ! Al Saiduq, as he had told the azure-eyed boy he was named, so as to not arouse suspicion, was very much engaged in common affairs and activities. Although, since he was the youngest of the royal lineage, not many cared to pay much attention to him, as such, with simpler clothing he had acquired from Hibiki, he was able to pass the streets of the city, unnoticed.
Saiduq immediately took note that everything was more beautiful this time of day—while cloaked in a thin fog and a soft amber light. He quickly arrived at their mutually-agreed-upon meeting spot and stood there to wait for his new acquaintance. Upon spotting the dark-haired boy, Prince Alcor approached him with an ethereal smile and an elegant bow. Many a time had the teenager told Alcor he preferred to be called by his first name simply Hibiki so he had been trying to refrain from using his full name as he was normally accustomed to doing. His soft and gentle voice was carried through the air of the morning as he kindly greeted Hibiki.
❛ Good morning, Hibiki. Shall we be off then ? ❜
Hibiki was happily munching on an apple as he was casually strolling down the streets of the capital. Yesterday after he had delivered his last letter for the day, he had received five silver coins (three more than he asked for his services) and an apple as thanks for his hard work. Thinking the apple would make for a good breakfast, he had saved it for later and was he happy he had.
The fact that the apple had been a gift made it taste all the more sweet. He was enjoying it greatly as he made his way to one of the lesser known parts of the capital. From the way Hibiki was biting into his apple and devouring it, one wouldn’t think he was going to meet up with a noble. Nobody, not even those inside the high, menacing walls of the castle knew Hibiki was seeing Saiduq.
Them meeting at every first sunrise of each month was their oldest and best kept secret.
“Good morning,” Hibiki greeted Saiduq upon arriving at their meeting point. Nodding at his noble friend, Hibiki bit one last time into his apple before throwing the core away. Surely a bird or a horse would come to enjoy the remains of his apple sooner or later and as thus Hibiki paid it no mind.
“Where are we headed? Didn’t you say you wanted to see the water wheel I told you about? It’s quite a walk from here to the side of the city which is adjacent to the river, but we should be able to make it. I would say that, but I wonder... Have those delicate feet of yours been through any exercise?”
Hibiki flashed a smile at Saiduq before turning on his heel and waking away, expecting his noble friend to follow him. Although they had been doing this for years, there was still little Hibiki knew about Saiduq or his life inside the castle. Despite Hibiki’s interest, he had always refrained from asking any questions for he feared their meetings could not continue were he to know too much about his noble friend. Even if deep down Hibiki wanted to know more, to be introduced to the world inside those walls, it was fine like this.
“The only thing we can do is wait and see. I wonder how far we will make it today.”
Anddd he was gone. Before Hibiki had been able to respond, the man he knew as the Anguished One had vanished.
What had that all been about? Hibiki couldn’t say their talk about there being no past or future made much sense to him and the Anguished One hadn’t given him the opportunity to ask any questions. Like always, he now had more questions than he had had before meeting the man. Excellent.
Scratching the back of his head, Hibiki shot one more glance at the spot the Anguished One had vanished and thought of rejoining his group. Upon turning on his heel, Hibiki momentarily froze when his eyes met someone’s piercing gaze.
“Oh... It’s you again,” Hibiki said, exhaling the breath he didn’t know he had been holding. “I hadn’t noticed your presence. You should have said something.”
Hibiki knew this person. They had met a few times before. Usually their conversation would be rather short and one-sided. Just like the Anguished One, this person would speak in riddles and then vanish. Hibiki had yet to catch this persons name, but he knew this wasn’t a bad person. He had been trying to help him all this time, after all.
“What’s cooking good looking?”

cardguns:
“I may wha-"
… Okay, so this guy was pulling his leg. Not surprised. He did come off as sort of sharp, although Kaito wasn't entirely sure if his earlier refusal was a matter of intelligence or lack of care for another's charity. It was a bit dumb to wonder if he'd figured him out, since he had earlier accused him, but…
Whatever. Where did he say he was going, again?
"Hold up.” The magician called with a hefty sigh, tugging his hood a little further over his bangs and heading after him. Umbrella rendered useless, he figured he might as well get out of the rain until it at least lightened up a little, and then he could go home. Plus, company? Never usually a bad thing. Usually. He’d have to take his chances if he wanted some entertainment for as long as the pouring went on.
“What did you say your name was?”
Hibiki didn't slow down. He figured the stranger would only have to take a short sprint to catch up with him and surely enough the other was walking next to him only a moment later. So the stranger had decided to join him? Curious.
"I've yet to give you my name. Isn't it normal to give yours before asking someone else's" The tone of Hibiki's voice betrayed he was joking and before the stranger could open his mouth he continued: "Kuze Hibiki is the name. You may call me Hibiki if you would like."
Never had Hibiki been a fan of honorifics and being called by his last name was too formal, stiff and impersonal for his liking. Being called just 'Hibiki' was fine by him.
Hibiki took a sharp turn and headed towards the entrance of the first random cafe they saw in passing. Once inside, he pulled his hood back, shook his head to get some volume back into those black curls of his and moved a hand through his damp hair.
A waiters appeared in his line of sight, smiling slightly. Despite looking like a drowned rat (probably), Hibiki offered her the most gentle smile he could muster in return.
"Hello, a table for--" Hibiki glanced over his shoulder to see if the other was still following him around "--two please."
A moment later they were seated opposite to each other. Hibiki didn't have to look at the menu to know what he was getting (hot cocoa with whipped cream), so instead of having a look he rested his chin on the palm of his hand and gazed out of the window. The rain was coming down even more heavily than before and he was glad to be inside.
[[If you would like to RP please like this and we can discuss a plot.]]
cardguns:
This was it.
Years of practice had gone into his poker face. He had honed his skills, using it to best people in card games, to deliver magic tricks with the element of surprise best displayed with an expression of pure showmanship. They must never know you are nervous if you have developed a new trick. It must always look like you have perfected it. Kaito had used it as a phantom thief, to keep himself collected in even the most stressful of situations, to provide an unseemly visage while cops fruitlessly attempt to analyse your next move. Yes, indeed, he had polished his poker face to endure so many follies.
Such as pretending he wasn’t trying to set up a terrible (in execution, not theory) prank.
“Even though you asked me, you already know where to go?”
Was he ignoring the accusation? No way. He was just going along with the stranger’s attempts to wave it off. Flippantly, he continued;
“Now it sounds like you’re coming onto me.”
The stranger was carefully avoiding and tiptoeing around Hibiki’s question. Hibiki would have attempted to get to the bottom of this if they hadn’t been standing in the rain. A little bit of water wasn’t going to kill him, but feeling his clothing sticking to his skin wasn’t all that pleasant.
“You may take that however you please.” Hibiki answered, leaving it to the stranger to interpret his words. “I’ll be searching for a place to take shelter now. So long?”
Hibiki gave the stranger a single nod before walking off. He would have liked to talk to him more and figure out what his deal was, but about now taking shelter in a random cafe and drinking a warm beverage sounded really good and very tempting. He still had a few hours before the library would close so he might as well enjoy himself while waiting for the rain to pass.
leylinetrue:
“I do hope you intend to do more than only ‘try,’” Yamato said pointedly with a look, holding Hibiki up to higher regards already; if this had been any other newcomer of JP’s he wouldn’t bate an eyelash at the comment, knowing that trying is the most that they could do, but Hibiki could do much more. He’s certain of that. But not too much pressure should be placed when it appears that the other could fall over any second now, and so Yamato eased off. “Rest until then. You’ll receive a reminder before your training begins.”
With nothing else left to say, he allowed Hibiki to leave his office.
Morning came soon after, with Yamato prepared before even the sun managed to peek over the mountains, standing before the clock tower in the center of the building and awaiting Hibiki’s arrival. Not even the sound of another human being could be heard at these early hours, but that would change as the slow trickle of people came to head to their proper spots before everyone else; the few who worked the morning hours or preferred to begin early.
Hibiki’s wake-up ‘call’ would be just that, and one text from a certain doctor had made the location of the dark-haired male very obvious. She did get after him slightly but not too much since she too had a terrible a sleep schedule as Yamato did due to her line of work. It’s simply the way of life when one devoted only their best, and not once will you hear Yamato complain about it.
A set of footsteps coming his way, and Yamato turned towards it, finding it had been exactly who he had been waiting for.
“You’re awake,” he began, more amused than anything at the other’s disheveled appearance, but continued. “Are you prepared? Once this begins, you won’t be able to take a break for some time.” At least there’s a bit of leeway he’s handing the other for breakfast, or coffee; Yamato would rather not have a frantic Sako or even Yanagiya on his back for allowing it to go so far.
“...Naturally, Chief.” Despite the fact Hibiki had zero energy to spare on anything but staying awake, he offered the chief a half-smile. He wouldn’t just try his best, he would make this work.
A few hours later and Hibiki was begging his “mom” to let him sleep for 5 more minutes. In the end it had been Otome’s soft chuckling to wake him up from his slumber. Part of Hibiki was relieved to hear he wasn’t going to be late for school, for he wasn’t going to school today... or ever again. Another part of him had grunted at being told the chief was expecting him.
Rubbing his eye and yawning, he strolled through empty hallways. He met no living soul on his way, which kind of made him worry about the unholy time Otome had woken him up. For the sake of his own sanity, he kept his cell phone in his pocket and made no effort to check the time. In his mind it would be quarter to FREAKING EARLY anyway.
Hibiki met up with Hosuin a few moments later. The chief seemed to be amused about something, but he had to be imagining that in this dazed state. To snap out of it, Hibiki patted his cheeks.
“I’m ready and good to go. Your orders, Chief?”
paxetjustitia:
“Is… that so?” Memes, at least, he was familiar with. Painfully so. Between Joe and, surprisingly enough, his own senpai, he’d gotten very familiar with many of the ‘popular’ internet jokes as of late. Admittedly, a handful of them still flew over his head, but he couldn’t appreciate the sentiment, and a light, soft chuckle rumbled in his chest as he offered Hibiki a small smile. “I’m sure most of your friends appreciate it as much as they ever did.”
Ronaldo gestured to the path nearby and gathered up the small bad he’d been carrying before moving away. The park was nice, but noisy, and raising his voice after the happy chattering of other citizens was less than tempting. Perhaps a small restaurant nearby would have open seating; as long as it was a bit cooler and out of the way. He did, after all, want to offer his friend his full attention.
“There are a few cafes and coffee shops nearby,” he explained with a slight nod in the proper direction. “It might be easier to talk there – unless you were hoping to get lunch?”
“Most of my friends?” Hibiki asked, raising one eyebrow. “I think you mean all of my friends. I’m a genius when it comes to making jokes. I should have, like, my own Wikipedia page.”
The grin on Hibiki’s face betrayed that he wasn’t being serious... probably.
“Getting lunch sounds good, to be honest. Any places you would recommend?”
It had been a while since Hibiki had had the pleasure of eating food in Nagoya. He was dying for some miso-katsu. Some uirou would be good too, but he would honestly love to eat anything. He hadn’t felt this hungry until he stared thinking about the mouthwatering food in Nagoya. Boy did he want to eat!
“...Maybe a place nearby? Because I thought of the miso-katsu we had when I was here last time I kind of worked up an appetite, haha. ”
cardguns:
Awwww.
Pathetic fallacy, you are the only reliable source in this world. At least the rain put a damper on his mood and literally got him damp, instead of this emotional sabotage. There went his good day, his prank of the… week. But he supposed he could just go try it on someone else, or better yet, just fool Aoko into it. She always provided him with an assured gullibility and the best of reactions to his notorious trickster schemes.
He conceded and propped the umbrella down, leaning on it like a proper gentleman. The kind you would see in this English films when they were doing those funny little dances.
“That depends, do you want immediate shelter or somewhere to stay til the rain goes off?”
That said, it was pouring down pretty hard now. Times like this made him wish he hadn’t boobie-trapped his shield from the rain, because his shoulders felt sticky and wet even through his hoodie. Nonetheless, a little rain never hurt anyone…
Emphasis on little. “There’s always the bus stop though, if you wanna wait on a bus and get outta here.”
Hibiki noticed how the stranger didn't open the umbrella he had offered him to make use of it himself after Hibiki had turned his offer down. Instead, the stranger was using his umbrella like a walking stick, leaning his weight on it and striking a laid back pose... and this while it was pouring down heavily.
What a strange person. Hibiki would be lying as he said he wasn’t a bit intrigued by him. They say opposites attract, but in some cases the same could be said for similarities.
“...Is this something you do often? Offering random strangers an umbrella, only to not use it yourself when your offer is turned down? One would think you’re trying to pull a prank on me or that you’re coming onto me.”
Hibiki chuckled at that, but waved his own comment away as if to be joking.
“I was on my way to the library, actually. A place to take shelter and wait for the rain to pass sounds good. Care to join me?”
