I'm just gonna tag you cause this is your jam. Feel free to ignore it, I'm not calling you but I know you like this topic. @palezma
Something that gets me about people's assumptions that Rose chose Greg and was never really with Pearl is that it's never the other way.
Nobody ever says "well she was with Pearl for 6000 years and didn't even spend a full decade with Greg before deciding she wants to give her life to Steven. Obviously Pearl was her actual love and Greg was basically just a method of suicide."
I would disagree just as much with that, but it would make it a lot less obvious that it's just discounting relationships that don't or can't result in pregnancy.
no but EXACTLY this!
It'd be like saying "she changed her entire self and gave up eveything to live on Earth with Pearl and spent the rest of her milennia old life with her, so clearly Greg was basically just a fling to help her with suicide"
like that is insane, why can't Rose have loved them both in their own ways? She knew Greg could not spend milennia with her, but she loved him as a person and loved how simple and genuine their relationship was and how human he was. And she loved Pearl because of the deep history and devotion they shared and because she had stood by her through her life her more than anyone else.
both can be true!!!!

Sometimes I read those Tumblr posts about how humans don't like our food if it's not poison enough and oh what we eat is so poisonous to everything else, humans are so op.
Then I look upon my garden, bare as the day I planted. Every morsel of its treasures having been eaten yet not a bite for me it's loving gardener. Only wretched pests feed on its ambrosia.
oh my goodness, one of dian fossey’s first close up observations with gorillas happened when she was trying to climb a tree to see them better, but so badly that by the time she’d gotten up the entire group had come out of hiding to look at her: “Nearly all members of the group had totally exposed themselves, forgetting about hiding coyly behind foliage screens because it was obvious to them that the observer had been distracted by tree-climbing problems, an activity they could understand.”
hello, fellow apes
The lead up to that sentence is gold:
[Image transcript: porch. The group had been day-nesting and sunbathing when I contacted them, but upon my approach they nervously retreated to obscure themselves behind thick foliage. Frustrated but determined to see them better, I decided to climb a tree, not one of my better talents. The tree was particularly slithery and, try as I might, no amount of puffing, pulling, gripping, or clawing succeeded in getting me more than a few feet aboveground. Disgustedly, I was about to give up when Sanwekwe came to my aid by giving one mighty boost to my protruding rump; tears were running from his eyes as he was convulsed in silent laughter. I felt as inept as a baby taking its first step. Finally able to grab on to a conveniently placed branch, I hauled myself up into a respectful semislouch position in the tree about twenty feet from the ground. By this time I naturally assumed that the combined noises of panting, cursing, and branch-breaking made during the initial climbing attempts must have frightened the group on to the next mountain. I was amazed to look around and find that the entire group had returned and were sitting like front row spectators at a sideshow. All that was needed to make the image complete were a few gorilla-sized bags of popcorn and some cotton candy! This was the first live audience I had ever had in my life and certainly the least expected.]
imagine some freakish not-a-human alien THING has shown up out of nowhere and is trying to get into your office building to study you. but it has no idea how to get past a revolving door. it tries for three hours. by the time it finally understands the concept of a revolving door and squeeze into the building everyone in the office is crowded into the lobby to watch and call helpful suggestions. it’s conclusively determined that the alien is definitely not a threat, except maybe to itself.
Addition approved
i think its a lil sad how often people will like restrain themselves from exploring new identities and hobbies because they don't want it to be an "embarrassing phase" because honestly i think its way cooler to have a diverse and varied lifestyle that you can look back on and say "omg i used to love doing that!" and apply those skills and interests to something else.
Also everything that was a weird phase for you and your general life experience is just how some people are and if you love and validate your past self as much as your current self you might experience something phenomenal. Understanding someone's mind in ways they couldn't get through to you if you hadn't experimented with anything.
just trying to help with the dishes.. all good here (via)
my ducks? in a row. the elephant? addressed. my goose? cooked. my eggs? in several baskets. the bigger fish? fried.
Your monkeys ?
those aren’t mine.
The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
Another Connie moment that feels very Pearl to me is when she tells Steven that she'll still come see him and help and hang out with him even if he stays a baby. Even if they can't do the things they wanted to, she still wouldn't just abandon him.
It is such a cute unconditional love moment.
And reminds me of Pearl because Rose turned into a baby and for at least a while she thought she might BE taking care of Rose just somehow without memories and in baby form - and you know she still wanted to be there anyway.
Something I love in English that I don't do because it's not how I was taught to speak is "how do you call ____?" I see it often in ESL folks but also in some native English speakers. I guess if I think about it I assume it's logical that maybe people got it from ESL family like their guardians, even though for the offspring subject English is functionally a first language.
Genuinely, it just makes me happy to hear and I didn't notice it the first few times I heard it. It's one of those cool ways grammar is fake. I understood exactly what it meant to the point I didn't notice they speak English differently than I do. I noticed the accent, but not very obviously different word choice.
Mentioned to my mom I'm asexual a couple months ago and today.... we got into the car and she hit me with, "So you use they/them pronouns now?"
I went, "What. no. she/her."
"How does that work? With she/her/hers and they/them?"
I stared at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Well you came out as-" and I said, "I'm asexual."
She replied, "Like an amoeba, I know."
"Oh. My god. No. Mom. It doesn't- it's not the asexual you learned about in biology. I didn't come out as a single celled organism."
With heavy relief, she said "Oh, it has a different meaning?"
"Yes, mom."
I love when cishets are this type of confused. By that I guess I just mean genuinely and not as a defense mechanism for ideas that don't actually define them but they think they do. Like she even got caught up in the exact wording of what she learned over a decade ago in a class that didn't actually focus on sex and gender in humans, but her confusion was so genuine.
Another undesirable reaction is angry cause they're a bigot, hate that one. But it's not the only way parents hugely fuck these interactions up. I'm glad she listened to OP.
Today in parallels: you can't keep them away from your magical mission because they love you. And you trying to push them away doesn't stop them from worrying

If transphobia were a hallmark of mainstream feminism, TERFs wouldn't have to call themselves radical in order to distinguish themselves.
