I much prefer people to be influenced by the music itself, rather than the lyrics themselves. To me, lyrics are always a secondary attempt to provide meaning. There’s something in music which is obviously beyond language itself. It’s communication in its purest form.

I’m fighting to believe there’s something good out there but it is hard work. Does it fuck my head up? I think it probably does, yeah. But I’ve got no fear of being fucked up. I’ve got no fear of insanity. No fear of death. I’ve lived a lot of my life with a very old person (his grandmother) who was slightly off it anyway, and also, I’ve spent a lot of time with someone who has Down’s Syndrome so I think I’ve just generally got no fear of public image, no fear of how I present myself. If someone says “Fuck off” I’ll just say “Fuck off” back. Louder.
