Samās ending is inarguably the least thing Iām upset about.Ā
But Iāve recently been thinking how easily his ending could have been perfect, even if they wanted Dean and Cas dead. Like, it was so easy??
Sam rebuilding the Men Of Letters, the bunker full of hunters. Sam runs the show so the audience wouldnāt have had to worry heād die on a hunt, heād be the organiser; learning magic, having his own desk, always his nose in books, teaching other hunters tricks with salt or devils traps.Ā
Eileen by his side, them happy. Could show she had a bump if they still wanted theĀ āSam names his kid after Deanā thing. Them growing old, Dean junior taking over the family business.
And the best part? They still could have done it in a shitty montage like they wanted. No dialogue necessary because THEY COULD SIGN TO EACH OTHER AND HAVE IT SUBTITLED.Ā
Were the writers even trying? Why did they think this was a good ending? Why do they always set up interesting things only to never return to them or leave these gaping massive plot holes? Why did they keep their characters emotionally crippled, never giving them a cathartic release? Letting the story prove to their characters that they are worthy of love and care? I mean, itās the reason I stopped watching in the first place, because of how they kept treating Castiel. He was constantly depressed, down, telling the audienceĀ ālook how much this character hates himselfā AND NEVER HAVING IT GET BETTER. And then the confession came along, and I thought WOW theyāre finally giving an answer as to why this character has been unhappy all this time. I mean, itās a little late, but I love Castiel so, that I caught up with the show and watched the ending. AND STILL HE DOESNāT GET TOLD THAT HE IS LOVED. WTFFFF???Ā
And then thereās Dean. They kept turning him into a bigger and bigger arsehole, and I just thought why? Why do you want me to hate Dean, I thought he was the lens through which the audience experiences the show. But they had him be so angry at Cas all the time, they had him turn against Jack, point a gun in Samās face. But then they explained it by saying itās Chucks fault, which, okā¦ And he says sorry to Cas in Purgatory and have him address his anger issues. But then HE NEVER WORKS THROUGH THOSE? ITāS NOT REALLY TOUCHED UPON AGAIN? He just goesĀ āI donāt know why I get so angryā and never learns why in the end. A brilliant way to explain it was to have him be attracted to Cas and be scared by that, thatās why he has anger issues and treats him like dirt. But they donāt allow him to say anything. Nothing about the confession, nothing about Cas. The characters have been OOC before, but JESUS.
Iām still mad. At the all the wasted potential. The amount of times Iāve had a better idea for this show than what they actually went with. All the fiction writers who knew the characters better than the writers themselves. Fuck, man.Ā
Letās be real, this was a bad show, but it had heart leaking through the seams. But even bad shows are consistent. Never, and I mean NEVER, in the history of television, have I seen a show do such a hard 180 on itself in its final episodes. Itās infuriating, and heartbreaking.Ā Ā
