Despite changing several plot points and basically reworking Victor’s entire backstory, del Toro & company managed to hit all the right emotional beats & remained faithful to the moral & spiritual quandaries at the heart of Shelley’s original work. The creature’s POV was perfectly executed. Incredible visuals. A few minor character missteps, but overall a truly compelling and genuinely good adaptation.
