MERLIN ❦ 3.04 | Gwaine
"He is half of my soul as the poets say"
i have such a big issue with andy serkis saying that his casting for the hunt for gollum will be all white because he views middle earth as white. i think that comment and the backlash to it merits serious introspection from him and the producers on WHY you feel that way. comfortability in whiteness and surrounding yourself with other white people doesn't equate to middle earth being entirely white. tolkien described multiple characters as brown skinned, curly haired, tanned, and whatever other adjective you could throw out there. the assumption that all characters in the legendarium are white due to tolkien being inspired by norse mythology is just false and tells me that he hasn't read the books or has blocked out portions of it to make himself more comfortable. it's emerald fennel with healthcliff all over again. and i'm personally disgusted by the comment and probably will not be watching the movie. the original peter jackson movies were all white 20+ years ago and with all the love i have for those films, that fact is one of my biggest gripes with it. lord of the rings is not real, it is fantasy, so there is literally zero reason to exclude poc. and people have different colored skin due to fucking sun exposure. are we saying that these people who have mostly evolved outside all their lives and till the fucking earth outdoors all their lives wouldn't even be tan? like holy shit what kind of cognitive dissonance are we dealing with here
Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you. No comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death, an image of splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief, under the fading trees, until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (2002) dir. Peter Jackson
The Ring-bearer is setting out on the Quest of Mount Doom. On you who travel with him, no oath, nor bond is laid to go further than you will. Farewell. Hold to your purpose. May the blessings of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you.
