this Easter my pastor talked about the struggle of being excited for Easter after what felt like an entire year of Good Fridays. it's really hard, and i think a lot of us are pessimists right now. God understands, God sees it, too. but please remember that God is working, and we must work with Him to get things done. prayer isn't just talking to God, it's acting out his will, expanding his love to where it's needed most.
God bless everyone
If you are religious, truly religious, remember that the government hates that. They will try to take you dragging and screaming into Christian nationalism, because then they can control you.
Follow God. Be uncontrollable. Be dangerous to Facists.
This is ‘Un-alived J3sus.’ Full reflection titled: "we ought to not look away: a small reflection on suffering, witness, censorship and the Crucifixion" up on my (free) substack
Leftist anti-theists/atheists need to remember that not all religions are conservative Christianity and Christianity/religion is NOT a monolith!!
In every faith you will find good and bad people. You will find people of all political stripes. Many people who follow a religion do not believe in everything their faith leaders/institutions say. You cannot assume everything about a person simply because they have a religion.
Also, don’t forget that BIPOC and queer people of faith exist. White supremacy has tried to wipe out our faith, our indigenous beliefs. Clinging onto our religion, or adapting the colonizer’s religion to make space for our own existence, is how we survived. Our faith is precious to us. Our faith is the source of our resilience. And for many, our progressive values.
Do not adopt the white supremacy mentality that there’s only one right way to live and all other ways are inferior. If your atheism makes you believe religious people are all stupid sheep, guess what! You haven’t deconstructed as much as you thought.
If your beliefs or non beliefs are based only on reactionary values and trauma, you need to sit down and reflect and heal more. I am sincerely sorry that certain religious people hurt you. But it does not make it right for you to disparage all other religious people, many of whom are also minorities.
Intersectional solidarity includes religion.

i will never, ever tell a minority or oppressed person that they have to love or forgive their oppressor, or respond with pacifism when beat in the street. i will never look down my nose-- or worse, call for the prosecution or persecution of-- those that respond to oppression with radical, violent measures to protect themselves, their own, and their community. i will never look at them with judgment or disgust.
but i must remind myself that i cannot include myself in that violence. that there is more than one way to be radical. that radical actions, radical movements, radical aid, radical protection of the oppressed, and more can co-exist with the teachings of Christ. there is more to do than hold the gun. there is more to do to help-- because you still must help (Matt. 25 34-46)-- than to kill in vengeance. there is so, so much to do, so many forms of radical disobedience against the evil ones on Earth.
i will never, ever hold an oppressed person to that standard. but i must hold myself to it.
As a Catholic I will never tell someone that I will pray for them unless I know that they would be happy to hear it. Doesn’t mean I won’t pray for someone if I believe they could benefit from it, but some people react negatively to those words. I used to despise when people would say that to me especially when I was talking about something horrible I was going through at the time because I felt like God had turned away from me due to what it was that was happening to me. When people would say that to me it felt like I was being mocked. Just be mindful of the things you say and who you say them to, both for your sake and theirs.
beautiful.
"What radicalized you?"
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven Blessed are the meek for they shall possess the earth. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice for they shall ave their fill. Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they that suffer persecution of justices' sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly for my sake. Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you. --Matthew 5:3-12
last night i was thinking about how following Christ is inherently both a selfless *and* "selfish"(for lack of a better word) practice. the selfless part is obvious. selflessness is easy to recognize, especially through Jesus. stories of virtue and unconditional love for others are absolutely everywhere in the Bible. that being said, the Bible also talks about *you*. a lot. the psalms talk about you, the angels talk about you, the Father talks about you, Jesus talks about you, over and over and over again.
we hear "God loves you!" all the time. when i finally took the time to process what that meant, it was hard to fully wrap my head around. it still is. it's hard to comprehend that the most cosmically beautiful being in the entire universe knows you on a personal level and cares about your wellbeing more than anyone else ever could. it feels self centered to acknowledge that you could be at the center of God's thoughts, but it's not.
to acknowledge that God sees you, that God loves you, is to love yourself in turn. He wants you to love yourself just as He loves you. you are an image bearer. you are precious to Him. please, remember that. spare some of God's relentless, overflowing love for yourself <3
no, God does not change. what God *does* do is reveal new ways of being and understanding over time. God is just as loving, open, and all-encompassing as He's always been, and He's always, ALWAYS, had a place made for you <3
are there any Presbyterians here that are Calvinist? i'd call myself Presbyterian in terms of the church i attend but i really don't identify with Calvinism at all, although i get that the Presbyterian church and Calvinism are sort of historically and inherently connected. not here to cause an argument, i'm genuinely curious to hear takes on this. please be respectful guys!!
from my observations, if a christian was once a non-christian, this generally makes them better at understanding non-christians. but if a non-christian was once a christian, this generally makes them worse at understanding christians
