if i wanted to be really, REALLY charitable to devsis re: That Whole Scene with the Lights of Virtue, i could perhaps interpret the Lights as being forces of wills reflective of their bearers and how THEY interpreted their own mission and virtues. They speak and carry themselves as if they are absolute good and fully know what must be done to Save Earthbread, but what if it was because that was how their Emissaries had interpreted their own missions? their Virtues of Perfect, Unwavering Righteousness, the purpose they were baked into and believed enough to chase for millennia before warping under the weight of a fundamentally impossible, flawed mission. The Lights speaking here certainly sounds much more like the Emissaries before their corruptions rather than distinct, unique wills. it might even almost make sense for the Light of Solidarity to do all of that if it was a reflection of Salt's understanding of Solidarity and of the value of himself and his fellow Emissaries—and by extension it carries his own flaws and misconceptions. i Could argue that most of the Lights voiced concerns and doubts re: their plans and the prospect of being split, but aside from Change (for which this idea aligns so fully with its entire Thing that there no way it could NOT) none of the Lights explicitly AGREED, and instead LoSol piloted the rest of the conversation with Elder Fairy—which directly reflects Salt's whole thing with quietly making this plan to replace all the emissaries Before they corrupted without consulting them. i could even argue that maybe that's part of why the Lights just look like their Soul Jams in that scene, but LoSol becomes a wholeass Guy after reforming from Salt and Willy; as a reflection of just pre corruption Salt, they didnt have enough will to be their own person, but as a vessel for who Salt was, who Salt has Become, and Willy and her entire character development, that its amassed enough soul and perspective to become a person into herself. a sort of brain child, if you wanted
if i wanted to be FAIR, that entire thing was fucking stupid to an almost impressive degree
honestly i think the funniest part for me is that the only Possible reason i can conceive of for devsis Doing That is to lay groundwork for eventually releasing and marketing the Lights as their own characters, but like. if THAT was the goal theyve done a tremendous job at shooting themselves in every single potential foot.
like. if it was to rationalize/justify LoSol being a Person now instead of just a fucking rock, then it is 1) literally unnecessary, because for all of the MANY issues with how willy and salts' stories ended, ive not seen Anyone struggle to accept or understand Light of Solidarity's existence specifically. like its not hard to grasp, and frankly even if it Was, viewers tend to have a higher threshold for how long theyll suspend their disbelief for plot points that are Sick As Fuck. it is also 2) not actually good at Doing That, if that was the goal. like the notion of offering That as an explanation for anything when it creates infinitely more issues and contradictions is LAUGHABLE tbh
if the goal was to cultivate appeal or build anticipation for Light of Solidarity as a PC, or any/all of the Lights, then theyve fucked themselves there too, because theyre. not actually Likeable. perfect characters are inherently unlovable, and while you could not PAY me to believe those thangs are perfect, they carry themselves like they ARE. and bitches who believe and act as though they are perfect and infallible while they are actively making dogshit decisions that fuck over other characters the viewers actually Cares about are pretty fucking IMMEDIATELY dislikeable. they show up to establish themselves as the stupidest most useless rocks ever and then destroy themselves immediately over it, while acting like this is all somehow the Mechanisms of Fate and not the result of them being incompetent assholes. like i and a number of people ive seen were excited to see more of the Light of Solidarity before they added that scene and now its like. frankly if thats how theyre gonna write LoSol im immediately less interested in that plot thread. i think i would punch that rock now.
not to mention the fact that it CANT really work to draw appeal to the whole Lights as characters, because the idea of suggesting that the soul jams fusing back together into their own people is like. their Final Form across the board. that would necessitate destroying the Lights that exist in their split forms, Two of Which In Particular very quickly and recently become quite popular as distinct, separate characters that interact with and gravitate around the other. and like if they DIDNT want ppl to get attached to them in that form Why Did They Do All That. like if they wanted us to get on board with hypothetically, far in the future, destroying the Light of Truth and Light of Deceit to bring back that loser Knowledge chud then theyve done a truly baffling job. ive never liked a hypothetical fusion LESS tbqh
and even better yet is that like?? their own narrative justification sabotages itself? if we were to take the Light of Solidarity's words in that scene at face value, and imagine it fully Right in the choice it made, then by their own admission, them splitting up was and IS the correct format. by Solidarity's OWN logic, the reformed Light of Solidarity cannot and should not remain whole.
(but i mean like. devsis definitely wouldnt make a character almost right out the gates be established as a doomed being that Will and Should die, right? thats definitely not something theyve ever done or would do, right? thats ridiculous)

Come visit the Cookie Cafe!
It's weird making arts for a game I'm too lazy to actually play
oh boy, 1AM on a thursday! time to post scary nonbinary cookie yuri!
Will you tell me another story? 💙
Guess who got really into the cookie game.
Extremely excited for act 2
I also am surprised i don’t see more people talk about Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla’s eyes
Fount of knowledge was created by the Witches, in all his glory
but, presumably, Pure Vanilla grew up like a normal cookie, meaning he wouldn’t have been fashioned by the witches themself. It’s some freak accident that he has the eyes of the Fount of Knowledge.
There’s no way seeing Pure Vanilla’s eyes doesn’t haunt Smilk…
Maybe there’s a smaller sense of connection too?
I think of Sage of Truth and Truthless Recluse also, The Sage noticing they’re matching very-specific-eye-colors, he’s going to be overjoyed at the prospect of it and Truthless will never hear the end of it.
Or for my Healerfount junkies, yall, please, WHEN HEALER COOKIE TAKES OFF HIS BANDAGES. Fount of Knowledge would probably have a seizure like there’s no way he doesn’t flip his shit BAISJSOSK
Healer cookie- “oh! we match, how fun!”
